try THE TIPPING POINT by Malcolm Gladwell...actually this is not a novel but i can assure you that this is a very interesting book to read.it's all about how small things affect big events..how a certain event "tipped" to become a disaster or success.

Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler.Just ignore the racist part and focus on the socio-economic discussions. The book is an eye opener.
Right! Hitler would have gone down as one of Germany's greatest statesman if it were'nt for his insanity of igniting WW2 and other actrocities that were committed under his rule.
