What Poetry Moved You?

The song unsung

The wish unfulfilled

For every choice made right or wrong

A thousand alternatives denied

We shall always wonder in the quiet of our lives

Of steps untaken , of dreams left unpursued

Forever haunted by their eternal loss

"see I done been lied to, backstabbed, and heartbroken

I wanted to cry but I was too afraid to open

Prayin' one day I'd find a piece of mind by the ocean

I spent all my time committing crimes to get closer"

A mirror into thine soul

Words so few

Encompassing  the litany that is life

My two favorites in college:

When I was one-and-twenty
I heard a wise man say,
“Give crowns and pounds and guineas
       But not your heart away;
Give pearls away and rubies
       But keep your fancy free.”
But I was one-and-twenty,
No use to talk to me.

When I was one-and-twenty
       I heard him say again,
“The heart out of the bosom
       Was never given in vain;
’Tis paid with sighs a plenty
       And sold for endless rue.”
And I am two-and-twenty,
And oh, ’tis true, ’tis true.

Tonight at noon
Supermarkets will advertise 3d EXTRA on everything
Tonight at noon
Children from happy families will be sent to live in a home
Elephants will tell each other human jokes
America will declare peace on Russia
World War I generals will sell poppies in the streets on November 11th
The first daffodils of autumn will appear
When the leaves fall upwards to the trees

Tonight at noon
Pigeons will hunt cats through city backyards
Hitler will tell us to fight on the beaches and on the landing fields
A tunnel full of water will be built under Liverpool
Pigs will be sighted flying in formation over Woolton and Nelson will
not only get his eye back but his arm as well
White Americans will demonstrate for equal rights in front of the Black House
and the Monster has just created Dr Frankenstein

Girls in bikinis are moonbathing
Folksongs are being sung by real folk
Artgalleries are closed to people over 21
Poets get their poems in the Top 20
Politicians are elected to insane asylums
There's jobs for everyone and nobody wants them
In back alleys everywhere teenage lovers are kissing in broad daylight

In forgotten graveyards everywhere the dead will quietly
bury the living
And You will tell me you love me
Tonight at noon

Nobody move there’s blood on the floor! And I can’t find my heart. Where did it go? Did I leave in the cold? So please give it back coz it’s not yours to take. It must have fell when I lost my mind. Deep in the cut, drowning in its pain. Somebody help because I can’t find my way. Nobody move, nobody move!

Somebody tell me how I’m supposed to feel? When I am sitting here knowing this ain't real. Why in the world would I give my heart to you? Just to see you throw it in the trash. I’ve been traveling so long, I dont think I can hold on. Where were you when I needed you the most? Now I’m sitting here with a black hole in my chest. A heartless, broken mess….

A NEW SHEET
He came to my desk with a quivering lip, the lesson was done.
“Have you a new sheet for me, dear teacher?
I’ve spoiled this one.”
I took his sheet, all soiled and blotted,
and gave him a new one all unspotted.
And into his tired heart I cried,
“Do better now, my child.”

A NEW DAY
I went to the throne with a trembling heart;
the day was done.
“Have you a new day for me, dear Master?
I’ve spoiled this one.”
He took my day, all soiled and blotted,
and gave me a new one all unspotted.
And into my tired heart he cried,
“Do better now, my child.”
