  1. In April 2026, a panel of more than 1,000 international travel professionals voted Entalula — a 200-meter crescent on a private islet in Bacuit Bay — the number one beach in the world. The Philippines had been waiting for this moment. Entalula was already half-secret. Now it isn't a secret at all. The Ranking That Changed the Conversation On April 29, 2026, The World's 50 Best Beaches announced its annual ranking. The methodology is, by design, taken seriously — the judges include travel writers, beach scientists, conservationists, tour operators, and resort professionals from more than 60 countries, evaluating contenders on natural setting, water quality, lack of overcrowding, calm conditions, wildlife, and the "natural soundtrack" of a beach (waves, wind, birds, the absence of human noise). The 2026 number one beach in the world was Entalula Beach, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines. Entalula had ranked #2 the year before. The 2026 climb to first place displaced 2025's winner and marks the first Philippine beach to top the global ranking since the list began. The country's other inclusion in the 2026 top 50 — Kalanggaman Island, Leyte at #25 — gave the Philippines the distinction of placing two beaches in a list that 60+ tourism boards lobby annually to enter. What the Judges Saw In the formal citation, Tine Holst — Co-Founder of The World's 50 Best Beaches — described Entalula as a beach that "delivers on every level our judges prioritise — not just in terms of clear water and powdery sand, but for its towering limestone cliffs, dense greenery, and seclusion." This is the El Nido vocabulary that veterans of Palawan recognize immediately. Limestone karst cliffs rising 100 meters straight out of turquoise water. A protected cove that catches the morning sun and the late afternoon light at separate angles. A reef that begins at ankle depth. The geographical luck of being on a small islet in the most photographed bay in the Philippines. The Geography Entalula is an islet within Bacuit Bay, El Nido, Palawan — about a 20–25-minute bangka (outrigger) ride from El Nido town proper. The islet is small — most island-hopping itineraries can circumnavigate it in 10 minutes — but the beach itself sits in a protected curve on the islet's southwestern face, framed by twin limestone cliffs that block both the open-sea swell and the prevailing northeast wind. The result is, on most days, an unusually calm strip of swimmable water. Behind the beach, the limestone wall rises directly upward. Above the beach, the cliffs are dense with the deep green of Philippine native vegetation. The horizon — visible from the sand — is the iconic Bacuit Bay middle ground: the other karst islets (Tapiutan, Matinloc, Cadlao, Dilumacad) silhouetted against the western sea. Visiting Entalula Entalula is accessed by boat from El Nido town as part of an island-hopping tour, typically Tour A (the most popular itinerary, also covering Big Lagoon, Small Lagoon, Secret Lagoon, and Shimizu Island). The standard tour includes a lunch stop at Entalula — most operators land here for the midday meal, which is grilled on the beach. The beach is not a resort. There are no permanent facilities, no lounge chairs, no bars. The infrastructure is the boat, the lunch grill, the shade of the trees, the sand, and the water. This is part of why it ranked #1. Day-trippers should plan for: An island-hopping tour booked through an El Nido operator (typically ₱1,500–₱2,500/person for Tour A) A swimsuit, reef-safe sunscreen, water, snacks Cash for the Bacuit Bay Conservation Fee (typically ₱200/person) A dry bag for valuables on the boat What the #1 Ranking Means for Visiting A real concern. The post-ranking effect on previously winning beaches has been documented at other listed locations — visitor numbers spike, conservation pressure increases, and the "lack of overcrowding" that won the ranking gets harder to maintain. For Entalula, the response will depend partly on the El Nido tourism board and DENR — the Bacuit Bay conservation regime already includes visitor fees, boat number limits, and the regulated tour-route system. Travelers can support the protection by: Booking through licensed El Nido operators (not informal tours) Paying the conservation fee in full Practicing reef-safe sunscreen (Philippine law now restricts oxybenzone-based sunscreens in protected areas) Carrying out all trash When to Visit The prime window for Bacuit Bay is November through May — the dry season, when the water is clear, the boats run reliably, and the limestone-cliff-and-turquoise-water photography is at its best. February through April are the calmest months. Holy Week is at full island-hopping capacity, booked weeks ahead. The rainy season (June–October) sees fewer visitors but rougher water; on bad-weather days, Tour A may be cancelled entirely. Where to Stay (for the Visit) The traditional luxury anchor for Entalula visits is Pangulasian Island Resort — the El Nido Resorts flagship — which has the closest access to the iconic Bacuit islets and a private boat program. For travelers staying in El Nido town, Lio Beach (the Ayala Land development) and the boutique-resort cluster on the town's main strip offer the standard access. Cross-Region Pairings Entalula belongs in the iconic Palawan itinerary anchor: Day 1–2: El Nido town + Tour A (Big Lagoon, Small Lagoon, Entalula, Shimizu) Day 3: Tour B or D (lesser-visited islets) Day 4: Pangulasian Island Resort or other luxury anchor Day 5+: Coron extension, or fly back via Lio Related — All Properties Under Best Philippine Beaches: Most Beautiful Island Luxury Resorts Pearl Farm Beach Resort (Samal Island, Davao): Mañosa-Designed Luxury & Davao Island Beach Pangulasian Island (El Nido, Palawan): Bacuit Bay Premium & El Nido Resorts Flagship Misibis Bay (Cagraray Island, Bicol): Private Island Resort & Albay Premium Hideaway Nay Palad Hideaway (Siargao): Ultra-Luxury Beachfront Retreat & Curated Concierge Eskaya Beach Resort & Spa (Panglao, Bohol): Ultra-Luxury Hideaway & Doljo Beach Wellness Iconic Beach Destinations Kalanggaman Island (Leyte): Globally-Ranked Sandbar & Strict Visitor Cap Bon Bon Beach (Romblon, Sibuyan Sea): Unspoiled Sandbar & Carabao Island Beach Apo Island (Negros Oriental): Marine Sanctuary & Sea Turtle Diving Beach Parent thread: Best Philippine Beaches: Most Beautiful Other Threads of Interest El Nido (Palawan): Bacuit Lagoons & Island Hopping — the El Nido travel guide Palawan Travel Guide: El Nido–Coron Itineraries — the Palawan region guide Your turn.
