The 15 October 2013 Bohol earthquake destroyed the church almost entirely — the facade, walls, and roof collapsed within seconds. What survived: portions of the foundation and some interior fragments. Restoration: the rebuild began 2014 and completed 2017, using the original architectural plans, recovered coral-stone materials where feasible, and modern seismic-reinforcement engineering. The church was re-consecrated 2017 and reopened for worship. The rebuilt structure preserves the original facade design while adding contemporary structural integrity.
