  1. This wasn't so bad.  At first, my impression was a plaid, pleated mini-skirt with knee-high socks.  Well, at least that's my idea of a Japanese school girl costume, or maybe I must've watched one too many of those Bruder... Bruder... dibidi...

Have you tried the decadent choco cake or the creme brulee at Sega?  You ought to try it, at least in this lifetime. :thumbsupsmiley:

Haha thank you for being kind and not murdering me for wearing that costume  Speaking of DVDs, I bought 20pfaux ones over the weekend. Am happy! Oh and I think we should all go to the Salcedo Market one Saturday morning! It's such a delightful place to discover delectable dishes! Tara let's!

Haven't tried the creme brulee yet but hey when Liberty is in Makati the next time gimme a ring and I'll buy you guys a cuppa and a sweet plate there! :D

Next EB natin sa house namin next week on the 18th of November (Friday). I-calendar nyo na.

Uh-oh .. Ad Congress week in Cebu and I might have to be there :( Hayyyy wala na naman ako sa stampita! Was looking forward pa man din to visit Mr. & Mrs. Storm's mansyon because I wanted to be treated to the visual delights! Especially the sabungero pieces. :thumbsupsmiley:

  2. Bods, Lipstick, Storm and Mrs. Storm, and Masi .... great seeing you again! I had a great time,  enjoyed the wines as much as the conversation.  Until the next get together.  I hope it's not those "lightning" ebs so we can get more people to attend.

    Cheers!  :D

Liberty!!! :* Thank you again for having us over :) It's no wonder why Masi is still soooo smitten with you after all these years  You don't look a day over your wedding photo! Whereas si pareng Masi eh ... errr malaki ang pingabago! Wala na syang widow's peak!

Kidding aside, you two make such a fine couple! Luv ko kayong dalawa! Cheers to Mr. and Mrs. Masi!

p.s. wala na bang kasunod si beautiful angel ninyo? :boo:

  3. ....and so we did, and I daresay you remain more of an enchantress than a hermit :)  (now what's a female hermit?) Nice to see you again! Ako ang nagiging taong-bato when I see you - as in frozen like a stone, rooted to the spot and mostly speechless   Hope you enjoyed the evening as the rest of us did....

    cheers!

A female hermit is a celibate?

You say the sweetest things Bods ... enough to make an old hag like me blush  At naks may nalalaman kang frozen dyan Bods, eh ang daldal mo that night kaya  It was nice sharing wine with friends like you again ... kinda reminds me of home :)

Winos! Kelan next WEB???? hahaha namihasa na eh.

  4. Bods and I had a "flash" eb last night and managed to invite a few thread regulars, Lipstick and Storm and Mrs. Storm, and Liberty (of course).  My wife's cousin, a playwright and wine society member in Canberra, was with us too.  We had a some bar chow, made special by the flavors of Omakase -- soft shell crab sushi, tofu beef roll, dynamite sushi.

Banrock Station 2003 White Shiraz South Eastern Australia

I had the same bottle last week and kept to my promise of opening another bottle when friends come for a visit.  The tasting notes were confirmed by my wife's cousin as she sighted and tasted the "Pomelo".    Bods said that the apple flavors were evident in the finish.

Vina Irache Tinto 2002 Navarra  (Spanish)  [bottle c/o my wife's cousin]

Visual was a light to mid ruby.  Nose revealed cherries, vanilla, dark berries -- red currant and cinder.  Body and finish was smooth but thin (as Bods described it).  The body evolved as the wine breathed and reached its serving temperature.  This wine holds a similar character to a tempranillo, which would be typical to Spanish reds.

Beaulieu Vineyards (BV) Coastal Estates 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Cellars (California)

Deep purple visual with lush flavors of dark berries and currants (cousin); chocolate flavors were found by Lipstick.  Velvety body and  long balanced finish, with mild tannins (Bods1000).

We ended with some arteries' clogging creamy and rich ensaymada which Lipstick brought and similarly, mouth watering Go nuts Donuts courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Storm; washed down with JABLUM (jamaican blue mountain) coffee (which I finally got to serve and they drank! )

Another great evening of wines made even better by friends!!!    :thumbsupsmiley:  :thumbsupsmiley:  :thumbsupsmiley:

Masi and Liberty!!! Thank you profusely for having us over in your lovely home :* I had such a wonderful time! Like I mentioned, it was a very diffucult night for me and I was grateful to be in the company of friends like you to keep my tears at bay. :)

Doncha just luv cabsavs???? I was telling Lib's cousin that the cabsav we had was way tame compared to the Aussie cabsavs that have an extra kick in it ... parang Jack ba, may tamang bastos!

Thank you again too for serving us the JABLUM which Liberty handcarried all the way from Jamaica. Pity we did not get to have a piece of the Rhum cake. Oh speaking of cakes, have you tried the Vargas Kitchen Butter cake????? It is delightfully sinful! I think a nice riesling would go well with that. Hehe. Para di ako off-topic. :thumbsupsmiley:

  5. Happy Halloween, guys!

Had a Hardy's VR Merlot last night.  Berry bouquet, vampire red color, not so long legs.  Very flavorful - berries and plum, and oak.  The full flavor lingers for sometime.  Good and simple wine that's easy to drink.

Hey FD, you've been busy drinking jove's nectar! It's such a delight to taste berries in wine isn't it? I most especially love it when I taste chocolate in it as well. :)

  6. Hv been drinking since '94. Fv is Cabernet S.a little Merlot. Started wid cheap wines and mvd up a bit. Tasted real great reds (for free), and anything in between. So, pretty know if wine is real crappy tasting. Wid Sideways, tried Pinot Noir from CX biz class selection - it was very good! I always buy french wine from small vinyards ~10 to 20 US$ fr6 duty free. :)

Welcome to the thread ubejam! Do you think they make ube wine in the Philippines? Kasi may mango and strawberry wine na eh.

  7. Hi Masi!

Thanks for dropping by the show last Saturday night. We enjoyed your company and the Rose siempre. It just made my face rosier though. :D

Speaking of suave Rod S. I have his volume 3. I'll check on vol. 4 tomorrow.

Storm! Finally! Such a pleasure to meet you and Mrs. Storm plus your two beautiful children! Did I hear you correctly when you said my fave dancer has got a twin? :boo:

  8. That must've been a quaint sight to see.  You, in Japanese schoolgirl costume, scribbling notes on the wine and ending up drunk. (Just like watching  a director's cut of girls behaving bad!!!) :boo:   Hmmm, seems like the progression of the wines was not in order that's why that white ended up flat.

Sige,  I will play  that Rod Stewart next time, but I still do have to brush up on my dancing ability.  I only know 2-dance steps... sweet and very sweet. :boo:

Masi pare! Hahahaha nahuli mo ako... I was hiding all day and you still caught the limited viewing. And you also saw the horrid halloween costume. Ok here goes nothing ... don't say I didn't warn you guys .... and pardon me if I offend anyones fine sensibilities here ..... tadahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh presenting Britney Spears post pregnancy packing an extra 100lbs!

p.s. Would you believe I allowed myself to be dragged to Segafredo the night I was wearing that costume???? The mind boggles!

p.p.s. Yes the progression of wines was not in order .... the white was just bland by the time it touched my palate

p.p.p.s There is no other way to dance to Rod S. but very sweet. :P

  9. I have no solid basis for my opinion, it's just a hunch.

I think the HK park is not 100% operational yet, hence I wouldn't be surprised if a significant number of attractions have yet to open. I don't think they can get everything up and running at the same time, and it wouldn't make sense from a commercial view to defer the opening until such time everything is ready, considering the expected rush of tourists after the "opening".

So my suggestion is to defer any planned trips to HK Disney. I'd say 3rdQ 2006 would be a better option. Teka, baka rainy season yun ah. Siguro 4Q na lang para added bonus na malamig.

    Just an opinion.

You are sooo right on the money there sliderule! If I am not mistakened, that's why all the HKDL packages only offer one night in HKDL (and other nights in other hotels) and a day pass because all you need is a day to get on all the operational rides  I am told that anywhere starting June 2006 would be a pretty good time to go. :)

  10. Speaking of Tony Bennet .... I just love Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook series. The lastest I have been listening to are Volumes 3 & 4. And if I may say, he just outdid himself in Volume 4. And the best part is the songs in volume 4 are just perfect to be sipping some red to! I most especially like his covers of "I Wish You Love," "Long Ago & Far Away" and this one just takes my breath away .... totally dreamy ....

    My One And Only Love

The very thought of you makes my heart sing

Like an April breeze on the wings of spring

And you appear in all your splendor

    My one and only love

The shadows fall and spread their mystic charms

In the hush of night while you're in my arms

I feel your lips so warm and tender

    My one and only love

The touch of your hand is like heaven

A heaven that I've never known

The blush on your cheek whenever I speak

Tells me that you are my own

You fill my eager heart with such desire

Every kiss you give sets my soul on fire

I give myself in sweet surrender

    My one and only love

The touch of your hand is like heaven

A heaven that I've never known

The blush on your cheek whenever I speak

Tells me that you are my own

You fill my eager heart with such desire

Every kiss you give sets my soul on fire

I give myself in sweet surrender

    My one and only love

Hahaha and I would like to dedicate the above song to that St. Hugo that has me mesmerized till this very day after more than a year of leaving his lingering taste in my mouth!

p.s. Pareng Masi, give Lisa & Barry a rest and put on some Rod .... and take the Mrs. in your arms and ahhhh just dance. I can foresee another baby on the way!!

  11. Well, look at it this way, while you're sitting back and enjoying a light spirited rose or a full bodied shiraz.... without the demands of your work... how will you live your life?  I think it's during  "crunchtime" that we are at our best... focused, objective and even more caring.  Hang in there and when the schedule gets light, we'll grab a drink!!!! :)

Gotta agree pare ... it's pressure that keeps me going. And I mean ALL SORTS of pressure! Harharhar. Yes we must grab a drink soon!!

That was quite a revelation!  :thumbsupsmiley: Such kind words and what a great way to start a day, much more a weekend. All I can say is THANK YOU but honestly, among friends, it's always worth my while to share a bottle and laughs.

Naks ... di ko alam ako or ikaw ang dapat bigyan ng AWARD. But like people say, praise is underserved flatterly and fortunately my folks brought me up to be truthful. ;)

syempre kailangang bumawi kasi na miss ko mag send ng bday card on her birthday kaya.....

    Belated happy birthday to you...

    Belated happy birthday to you...

Belate happy birthday, Belated happy birthday...

    Belated happy birthday to you!!!

Hope you had a memorable one.....

    Thanks Macy! :*

para naman akong superhero ah - ang alam ko comic character lang ako :P  thanks for the kind words pero di ko alam meaning ng genteel - baka Gentile ako

welcome back - I do hope we get together again soon....

Pleasure is mine (err but that in no way is an indication that I am not a giver... ) Bahala ka kung gusto mo maging Philistine! :P Kidding aside, you are "genteel" Bods ... totally. And that's what makes up part of your charm. ;)

Like I mentioned earlier, we must get together soon for the sake of my sanity! I am fast becoming an ermitanya! Next thing you know eh baka maging taong bato na ako.

Princess Vino (or should it be Vina! :D )  Great to know that inspite of your busy schedule, you managed to have some wine to start a long weekend.  We'll be waiting for your notes and a pic of that Halloween costume.

Some wine is an understatement! By the time we hit the white eh parang wala na syang ganda. I'm just looking for my lil notebook where I posted my tasting notes (I made sure I did this kasi I knew I would totally forget after my 6th glass). Oh and the costume, I looked totally idiotic dressed as a school girl with matching white socks and black maryjanes. It's a blackmail photo!!!

  12. Currently reading A Literate Passion: Letters of Anais Nin & Henry Miller, 1932-1953 -- Edited with an Introduction by Gunther Stuhlmann

So far it is absolutely beautiful with Nin's lyrical words which provide a good contrast to Miller's eruptive temperament. There's a tenderness in Miller that is revealed through his letters to Nin, a wonderful find indeed. Truly a must-read for any Nin lover! :thumbsupsmiley:

  13. Ola Winos! Hope everyone has been well ... am still catching up on the backreading bit! Just wanted to quickly say that I had a vino drinking binge last Thursday as we had our yearly company Halloween thingo-- 4 bottles of various reds and a bottle of white. Will post my tasting notes (naks may nalalaman akong tasting notes eklavu! hahahaha) once I have my brains assembled. At the moment it's a tad laced with at least two weeks worth of wine and Jack squeezed into a night.

p.s. Masi! Luv the crawford analogy! :thumbsupsmiley:

  14. 212 Ice

    Bulgari Blu

    Polo Sport

...but since you mentioned it, I'll try Issey Miyake na rin

Ha ha ha :thumbsupsmiley: You won't regret the purchase! Promise!!! But then you must pray very hard that our paths don't cross or I will be forced to threaten you too!

Kidding aside, when I first smelled Issey Bleu I was reminded of such clean scents like the smell of first rain for example ... and as you let your nose linger on it longer it's as intoxicating (in a good way) as that scent of wet earth from rain ascending and infusing itself with the air (clean not musky) .... after awhile it just becomes enigmatically captivating while remaining subtle and you can smell the colors blue, green, the skies, the cool country landscape . Luv it! Oh just a tip, don't smell it off the sprayed card but try it on skin, it smells totally different!

  15. I mentioned this a few pages back that I was planning to purchase one and I finally picked up a bottle of DKNY's Be Delicious Green Apple the other week at the Bangkok DFS (it's available here in Rustan's too). This perfume is true to its brand name when it is newly sprayed on the skin as it just makes your mouth water and want to bite into that refreshing sexy smell! Notes include Apple, Cucumber, Grapefruit, Magnolia and Violet among the few which contribute to its entire juiciness. While I get deliriously intoxicated with this new find, I still need to get accustomed to it (I find it a bit strong to the nose) as I wear it longer (and the longer it stays on the skin, the Magnolia note surfaces more as well). All in all Be Delicious is sensually hypnotic but I would recommend it to be worn on cool days and evenings (and intense hot dates! ).

For warm days and light flirtations, I would still highly recommend Anna Sui's Secret Wish!! You can't go wrong with this baby! Its lemon, melon, blackcurrant notes are similar to Escada's limited edition circa 2003 Tropical Punch but minus the sinus-attacking notes. Secret Wish is truly dreamy (just like its bottle) and a sweet sexy delight, I just wished (not secretly) that the finish wouldn't be too faint so I could still smell it on me throughout the day.

  16. A quarter to tomorrow

    A quarter past todays moment

    My Felicity,

As the days slowly yet hurriedly go by, I am often left in awe with what our hearts have been through. The weeks have been hard and the aching intensifies with each moment our skins do not kiss.

I feel like I know you and not know you all at the same time. How terrifying it is and yet delightfully wonderful to explore everything about you. Some things discovered affirm what I have always known and some things unearthed pierce me to my very core.

Standing on the precipice of what separates yesterday and tomorrow, I know this much: I chose well.

How I love the contradiction that is you, I love the throbbing paradox you are. I love how you are so conservative & old fashioned and yet titillatingly naughty & passionate; I love how you are so wise & sage and yet like a little child with your innocent & boyish ways; I love how you seem oblivious, almost indifferent even, at times and yet weep joyous tears of love over the littlest of things I may do, say or give you; I love how you make me think you don't care and yet surprise me & move me to tears with your love expressed in words & caresses.

You once told me that you never expected this to run smoothly, that there will be good times & bad times and that it is good to have both; that you loved all of me and all means the best & worst of me and me in the best & worst of times. No other could love me the way you do. I also once told you that I, too, love all that you are made up of, all the things you could possibly be and will be but I missed telling you that I love you, too, for all the things you are not and never will be.

I learned not too long ago that when you take out the selfishness in a relationship, all that remains is true love. It is nice to have this happen at least once in a lifetime but twice? It exceeds the limit of human joy ... it is stealing fire from heaven. I am a thief.

I like being defined by the three words. Even neopets can have real feelings.

    Tu m'embrasse.

    -L-

  17. Aba, ate, di hamak naman na lamang ako sa yo sa edad kaya, I may be entitled to alittle fun and relaxation!!!  When I was your age, I had 20 hour days.  Took red eye flights in between meetings.  So, pa-slave ka muna!!!! :P

Yes, Storm's exhibit is a "must see", ie., Storm "must see" you there, too!!!!

Sama ka?!  Lagi naman dapat, di ba?

Nyar .... haven't I been slave enough???? You mean there is more????? I shudder at the thought!!!!

Hehehe witty tayo today ah pare ... must see .... wehehehehehe.

OO lagi naman ako kasama ... katunayan eh twice na ako nakakasama sa WEB pero major secret. Truth be told, I have had the pleasure of sharing more than a glass of wine with such kindred spirits in the handles of Masi, Bods and PinoiStrigoi --- and I meant like in a "3 glasses, some callos, some tako, and a whole lotta laughs" kind of way. :D

Ayan hindi na ako pwedeng i-blackmail. Sinabi ko na! hehehehehehehe.

To those who have met these three men, you will agree with me that Masi is such a gracious host and am sure he only takes after his better beautiful half Mrs. Masi. And that Bods is such a genteel soul, very softspoken like the mild mannered Clark Kent. ;) And si Pinoi eh ... well he's a whole different animal alltogether!

Eagleyes and Agxo3, I failed to greet you two men out there in the west coast "HELLO" hehe so here it is ... Hello! Hope all has been well with you and your families. :)

Jadedfox, welcome to the thread! Hope to see you 'round here often.

Cheers Winos, it has been a terrible week and I just can't wait for it to end! Looking forward to the weekend and some booze. :thumbsupsmiley:

  18. Yup!  Got it, but haven't opened it yet.  Lubog pa sa trabaho.

Hangang mga boteng walang laman ang nakikita ko

WR agad hah when you open it! Just want to validate my tastebuds.

Boy, you really sound so eager to drink!!!  And that's GOOD!!!  Sure, we'll schedule something soon!!!  Sige mag-Cyrano tayo, we'll try the magic sauce, baka sa sobrang magic nyan, mad-disappearing act yung libre mo ha!!!

Yes I am eager .... eager to be with good friends and drink equally good wine :) Oh wag na ako bigyan ng award :P

I promise not to forget to pay for the platter :P

I attended a solo art exhibit last night and aside from viewing great works and communing with a bubbly artsy group, good wines flowed through the evening. :thumbsupsmiley:

Libertas Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 RSA, a mid to deep red color with a vibrant nose. Body was mid to full with a light floral finish and some tannins.  It was  a pleasure to drink.

Lindemans Cawarra Shiraz Cabernet 2004, deep red color, oak caramel and berries.  Body was full with some sweetness in the end (must be due to its very young stature).

This is my idea of how Monday nights should be -- art, wines, lovely music, harmony, and Bohemia!!! :boo:

Ayyy habang kayo ay nagpapakasaya ako naman ay nagtratrabaho hanggang alas tres ng umaga! #(*$)($^y&@#$@#&*

 Am so glad Storm's opening night was such a success and well attended by friends from the board.

pansin ko din that your Tagalog is getting better - may nalalaman ka pang bahid dyan hehehe....

dahil birthday mo, tanggap ko na na masungit ako although I don't recall being masungit to anybody, much less to you....

what did you pop, I mean what did you open on this your very special day? :*

cheers! no bad wine for you, birthday or no birthday!

    :P

Hehe I did not pop anything but a blood vessel (almost) when a Pinay immigration officer was so rude to tourist who was looking kinda lost and clueless as to what to do with the arrival card. I actually told her off and reported her to her supervisor. That's my good deed for the day. :)

O kelan natin bubuksan yan? Naghihintay dito yung penfolds ko. EB tayo ulit sa exhibit. When kayo pwede? May housewine doon, yung Libertas.

    Sama ako!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :boo:

  19. I like shiraz and Merlot

how about those I see in supermarkets sol de espana semi sweet , they taste good also, what can our wine savvy member comment about this?

some of you might want to check out Cyrano on C Palanca. Its a quiet little place tucked away right at the end of the street. Cor. Legaspi St. Excellent selection of wine and they have a great cheese platter to go with it.

Bods .... musta na ang buhay buhay! :D

hi guys. newbie- virgin. this is so far the most informative thread, mayne because i'm interested with wines. well, i'll stick around for more. hope to contribute also.

Hi, I'm not an aficionado, but I prefer Chilean wines, and Pinot Noir(s). And I

consider chilling red wines a sin. :)

A big redwine (hehe sorry am biased) Welcome to all of you!!! :D Hope to see you guys here more often in the thread :thumbsupsmiley:
