  1. For a light moment....

    From Kitty Go's blog >>> http://chichitsthefan.blogspot.com/

    (NOT) THE COLOR PURPLE November 2, 2008

    Before we discuss my encounters with poverty and the turd world (since I am about to spend this weekend in Delhi), let us discuss the wines of Burgundy or Bourgogne to the cheese-eating surrender monkeys.

    I am doing this is because I don't want to hear "What do you learn from Kitty's blog?"

    "Nutthin..."

    So today I am giving you the the Hollywood one-page story summary or the cheat sheet for the internet generation on Burgundy. And for the fashionistas, out there, no, this is NOT one of the brownish-red shades in a Pantone guide.

    On the day the Asian markets dropped by 13%, I went to a wine tasting involving 13 wines from Burgundy. God knows all the bankers in town needed a strong drink and a lesson on expensive wine since soon they will not even be able to afford Ribena.

    The tables were filled with so many glasses I thought I was assigned to wash them. This would have given Ina Raymundo a heart attack---- she of the ideal date being at a restaurant na 'basta huwag sa maraming kubyertos.'

    HOKAY--so here is the summary you would submit to Brad Grey at Paramount if you want him to green light your film: (I HOPE you's knows dat Burgundies comes in whites and reds)

    Burgundy is a region with the following 'hoods: Chablis, Cote de Nuits, Cote de Beaunem Cote Chalonnaise, Maconnais and Beaujolais. Chablis, Maconnais and Beaujolais are the most popular with Beaujolais having the reputation of cheapness.

    It is cheap because it is Burgundy merely 'by location' which is like buying property with a "Beverly Hills Post Office' address or saying you live in Makati when it is really JP Rizal or saying you live on the Peak when you really live inside one of the WW2 bunkers together with illegal Chinese immigrants.

    There are over 10,000 wine producers who grow and blend grapes and bottle wines out of chardonnay and pinot noir.

    There are three classifications of vineyards: Grand Cru with 32 names which make up 1% of production (this is why you have to take out a mortgage to have a sip); Premiere Cru with 476 names making up 10-11% (buy this if you want to impress but not be cheap) and Village which accounts for 90% (Girls, you know your date is saving money if he orders this).

    Knowing your wines to impress your friends and the chicks:

    1) 2006 is a good year for whites. Puligny-Montrachet and Pouilly-Fuisse (being villages or'corners' if you had to 'splain this to Marlo and Omar) are popular with Americans but the Chassagne-Montrachet is great value and less popular with the peeps. The Uniqlo of the white wine world, if you will.

    Of course you can always order a Chablis which goes with most Asian foods. (But personally, I think whiskey is better)

    2) A moderately priced 'village' red would be 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin, Champerrier, 1er Domaine Tortochot, Cote de Nuits (more on DOMAINES later) would be 'manly' enough to impress a bird especially when you say that 2002 was one of the top 3 vintages in the last 15 years so you ain't so cheap and ignorant after all.

    3) If you want to prove your manliness in choice and wallet at Morton's Steakhouse, order 2002 Vosne-Romanee, 1er Cru, Beaux Monts, Dme Bertagna, Cote de Beaune. At over 100 USD, the bird should at least give you head.

    Another choice would be the 2002 Nuits St. Georges, les Cailles, 1er Cru, Patrice Rion, Cote de Nuits which would easily set you back over 150 USD but think of it as the reliable, wear with anything Maximillian fur that is elegant but not quite Fendi or Revillon.

    A word about Domaines. Like Isaac couture and Isaac for Target, vineyards also do hi-low wine.

    In other words, it ain't the same without a domaine. Well, sort of.

    And that's it, in a grape seed, kids.

    But I have a better plan for the guys. Instead of trying to learn all this, take a new date to a wine tasting. That way, you can a) impress her with your sophisticated idea of a date and B) take advantage of her later when she's drunk.

    They had a concert in 1980 81 (?) at PICC and then again more recently at the Araneta Coliseum.

  4. What i am pointing out here is that ... for most Filipinos, its not a GOOD impression most want BUT an impression that they are RICH / AFFLUENT. Isnt it enough that the impression we make is that we are a DECENT person/s. Doesnt that count for something??? ..kelangan ba talaga na RICH ..feeling..looking like one para lang maging acceptable...this isnt meant to start a discourse on how one spends money..or how one shows that he has made it..

  5. This weekend, i got a comment from my sister who lives in NY that got me stumped... Sabi niya...bakit daw mga Pinoy has this NEED to establish in ANY social interaction that they are RICH..

    Your thoughts please..

    For SOME Filipinos, it NOT good enough to show that they are DECENT.. they need to show na AFFLUENT sila - whether real or imagined...my observation - bragging rights dinadaan sa anong latest acquisition nila, kung ano ang branded na mga gamit sila, ano at saan sila kumain, sino kasama nila....okay lang yon, actually, kung within CONTEXT but for the just so...just cause..maisingit lang mentions para lang magmukhang nakakahigit sila, yun ang PANIS :thumbsdownsmiley:

    I agree with Masi..there is a psycho-socio-cultural explanation to this quirk. :thumbsupsmiley:

  6. Makikigulo lang po ang isang hamak na 80s kid na pinanganak nung 70s. ^_^

    I love the movie and the soundtrack!

    I won't mind giving you CD copies of the soundtrack if you want.

    Can I invite myself if I'll bring a working turntable? Hehehe.... :lol:

    I had so much fun reading augustmoon's and storm's posts. I was about to enter grade school when the 70s gave way to the 80s but I grew up spending weekends at Good Earth Emporium (loved their chicken liver spaghetti - and that's one of the reasons why I love chicken liver up until now), watching movies at Escolta, buying shoes at ShoeMart Carriedo and clothes at Arcega's. I remember throwing tantrums at Alemars when my mom refused to buy me those one peso Nancy Drew books.

    I remember celebrations at Max's Scout Tuazon and we used to eat a lot at the Kentucky Fried Chicken at Bonanza (we lived near that place during that time). They used to serve their food in steel oval plates and my baby brother would cry every time he'd hear those clinking and screeching knife sounds. And yes, I grew up on Klim, Chocolait, Daisy milk in tetra paks, Serg's chocolates and my favorite, Horlicks (bakit wala na dito pero meron sa Singapore?).

    I'm still a sucker for those 70s songs with beautiful lyrics and melodies. ^_^

    Hi Mwah.. I remember GE's chicken liver spaghetti ! - but not as fondly as you do ..:-(. I do remember the T-Bone steak with loads of gravy in a hotplate of Bonanza ..i still have a burn scar in my left hand to remind me of it.

    Have fun re-living the 70's in this thread. Its as good as it gets.

  7. O..Eto pa...

    A GRAMATICALLY-CHALLENGED LOVE STORY - PART 2

    I thought Jay's ex-girlfriend was really out of our lives. But heaven

    only goes that I was wrong. Kakakasal pa lang namin nun when Jay

    received a uninamous text. "Meet me at the clinic."

    I had a stinking feeling in my butt. I told him not to go. It might in danger him. Pero sabi niya, ok lang daw because life is what we make. Tumahimik lang ako.

    Sabi niya, "Penny for you talks." But I didn't know what to say.

    Beggars can't be losers. Isa pa, worried talaga ako na baka yung girl

    yun. Jay said, "Can't got your tongue?" I tried to smile at him. Kahit di ako nagsalita, actions speak louder than works, di ba?

    Be that as is may, umalis pa rin siya. I was out of the loophole.

    After a few hours, I called him on his cellphone. But my calls fell on

    Jeff's ears. Lalo akong nag-worry kasi I didn't even know Jeff. Sabi

    na nga ba di na dapat umalis si Jay. That's what I'm talking about it.

    So I tried calling some friends who will help me find Jay. What are

    friends are for di ba? But I just faced a blank mall. I had to do this

    alone. Nag-taxi na lang ako. Pero ang mahal na pala ng plug down rate.

    When I got to the clinic, the security was really buffed up. Di

    basta-basta makakapasok. So I said, "I beg your cordon. I'm patient. It's my favorite virtue nga e."

    Nagduda yata yung isang guard. Hinawakan ako sa arm. The nerd! I shouted, "Don't touch me not!" Buti na lang the other guards were nice and said, "Come on, let's join us."

    When I went inside, parang I've been there, done there. Nung walang nakatingin, nag-explore ako. Nakarating ako sa top floor and I had a bird's IQ of the clinic. I could not explain it but I was drawn to a room on the floor. Siguro Divine Intermission na yun.

    Parang may narinig akong umuungol. I was thorn. Di ko alam kung aalis ba ako o papasukin ko. It made me stick in the stomach to think that Jay and his ex-girlfriend were there. I tried to tell myself to slower my expectations. But to tell with it! I had to strike while the iron is not. I had to hear the truth from the corpse's mouth.

    I barraged in. O my gas! Si Jay, naka-strap sa operating table, parang genie pig sa isang nakakatakot na experiment. He was on the cutting edge. He was bleeding. At ang doctor na nagpapahirap sa kanya, ang ex-girlfriend niya at ang bago nitong boyfriend, ang nurse na si Walter. Doon ko napatunayang blood is thicker than Walter.

    Guess watch? Di ko alam kung paano ko nagawa pero I was able to search and rescue Jay. Siguro adrenaline brush na yun.

    Now, he's recovering. Nag-sorry siya na hindi siya nakinig sa akin. I

    know it's a better pill to swallow your fried so it's forgive and

    forget me not. All swell that end swell. I know we should kiss and put on makeup.

    Ang ex-girlfriend naman niya at si Walter, nakakulong na. Detention is really better than cure. So the moral of the lesson is: if symptoms persist, insult your doctor.

  8. Share ko lang ito for laughs.. sakay ng mga 70-80's generation ito kasi we speak BETTER english DAW :-)... ??!!

    A GRAMATICALLY-CHALLENGED LOVE STORY

    We've been friends since a long time ago. We come from the same alma mother. Actually, our paths crossed one time on another. But it's only now that I gave him a second look. I realize that beauty is in the eyes. The pulpbits of my heart went fast, really fast. Cute pala siya!

    And then, he came over with me. He said, "I hope you don't mine. Can I take your number?"

    Nag-worry ako. What if he doesn't give it back? He explained naman na it's so we could keep intact daw. Sabi ko, connect me if I'm wrong but are you asking me ouch? Nabigla siya. Sagot niya, "The!" Aba ! Parang siya pa ang galit! Persona ingrata!!! Ang kapal niya! I cried buckles of tears.

    Na-guilty yata siya. Sabi niya, “Isipin mo na lang na this is a blessing in the sky.”

    Irregardless daw of his feelings, we'll go ouch na rin. Now we're so in love! Mute and epidemic na ang past. Thanks God we swallowed our fried. Kasi, I'm 33 na and I'm running out the time.

    After 2 weeks, he plopped the question. "Will you married me?"

    I'm still in a state of shocked.

    Kasi mantakin mo naman, when its rain, it's really fours talaga! This is true good to be true. So siyempre, Isaid yes. Love is a many splendor, di ba?

    Pero nung inaayos ko na ang aming kasal, everything swell to pieces. Nag-di-dinner kami noon nang biglang sa harap ng aming table, may babaeng humirit ng, "Well, well, well. Look do we have here." What the fuss... The nerd ng babaeng yon! She said they were still too on.

    So I told her, "Whatever is that means, cut me some slacks, ‘no!"

    I didn't want this to get our hand kaya I had to sip it in the bud. She accused me of steeling her boyfriend. The nerd talaga! Ats if! I don't never want to portrait the role of the other woman. Gosh, tell her to the marines! I told her, "Please, you should to mine your own business!"

    Who would believed her anyway? Dahil it's not my problem anymore but her problem anymore. Hmphf.

    Tumigil na rin siya ng panggugulo. Everything is coming up daisies! I'm so happy. Even my boyfriend said liketwice. He's so supportive.

    Sabi niya, "Look at is this way. She's out of our lives."

    Kaya I advised you - take the risk! You can never can tell. Just burn the bridge when you get there. Life is shorts. If you make a mistake, well, just pray for the internal and external repose of your soul. I second emotion.

    ****************

  9. Storm.......I happen to see you and your Dad sa TV kahapon - interview sa isang Morning Show.. I wasnt sure at first if it was you or your brother ..kasi your name was hardly mentioned by the host..but when i saw that you were wearing a LaCoste shirt, na confirm ko na ikaw nga iyon :-) Ano bang meron diyan s Malabon na meron kayong ganyang kagagaling na mga Artist ? Congrats.

  10. Got this from my distro list...altho medyo 60's - ito... applicable pa rin..

    This will expose your true age......

    -- Shared by William M. Esposo

    Panciteria Moderna was the place to go for pancit miki and miki bihon already wrapped in their version of "tetra pak". Pancit bihon was the specialty of Panciteria Wa Nam.

    At Ma Mon Luk siopao was at 30 centavos; mami was at 70 centavos or 2 pcs of siomai (large) with unlimited soup was at 30 centavos. So with one peso busog ka na.

    The Shangri-la in the basement of Shelborne Hotel (at the back) was the place to go for dates if you wanted a dark and cozy atmosphere. The Embers (in Cubao) of Bert Nievera was also popular. The Black Angel along Shaw Blvd near the corner of Kalentong in Mandaluyong was a very good place to listen to soft music (e.g. Fleetwoods, etc) and the lights were also quite low. With Php 30- 50 in your pocket you were in pretty good shape for a date.

    "Bakuran" was the in-thing at parties with "screening" from a friend to assist you in getting a dance with a girl who was very sought after.

    Wack-Wack, the Sky Room in Jai-Alai, the penthouse of the Rufino Bldg. as well as the penthouse of the Sarmiento Bldg right opposite it were the favorite places for proms and balls. Sikat ang event if the Hi-Jacks; the Electromaniacs or the Technicolors was the "combo" playing. Alta Vista along Roxas Blvd. was the favorite place for wedding receptions at Php 8.50 per cover!

    Special ringside seats for performances at the Araneta Coliseum were at Php 5.00 per. So with Php 20.00 you could safely invite someone and still have enough for a snack afterwards or a game of "putt and putt" at the mini-golf place located at the back of Araneta.

    During early 60's, 5centavos and 10 centavos ang bayad sa jeep.

    May I add: Hallili Beer (sold to the Sorianos), Tody chocolate drink in cans, Horlicks malted milk tablets; Hallili bus, Super (dog logo) Transit, Yujuico, JD & MD buses; ShoeMart Carriedo (the first SM) followed by 2nd ShoeMart beside Ideal Theater and fourth was SM Echague with a revolving restaurant at the top floor.

    Safari Club beside Manila Zoo at the height of the "Twist" craze, Dance-O-Rama with Pete Roa & Baby O'Brien, Jam Session every 6PM on television.

    Now anyone who missed those days can't really claim they've seen and tasted the best. Every generation has its own set of "Aces". Do you recall when: You tasted Fres Gusto, Cosmos "Sarsi" Sarsaparilla, RC Cola, Yes Cola, Teem, Darigold Evap, Liberty Condensada, Choco Vim, Sunkist Orange (in tetra packs), Magnolia Chocolait, (pronounced chocolight), Klim (the word "milk" spelled backwards), Big 20 Hamburgers, Foot-long hotdog, Tweet & Jiggs Candies(by Mr. Krieger), Sugus Candies, Tootsie Roll, Serg' s Chocolate, Blenda Margarine, kerosene-flavored popcorn and kropeck along Dewey Blvd, dirty ice cream, Magnolia Ice Cream sandwich, Selecta ice cream (now Arce Dairy) and their fresh carabao's milk, Magnolia popsicles in orange, chocolate and langka flavors, Sison Ice Drops in monggo, and buko flavors, Milky Way's buko sherbet, Acme Supermarket' s sundaes and Coney Island's 32 flavors?

    You went to: Syvel's, Assandas, Arcegas at the Maranaw Arcade, Funhouse at Bricktown, Aguinaldo, Erehwon Bookstore, Alemars Bookstore, Bookmark, Botica Boie, Makati Supermarket (in Makati!), Rizal Theater (with its spacious lobby) with D'Bankers Barbershop and Leila's Coffee Shop, Tropical Hut (and its hamburger), Acme Supermarket, Cherry Foodarama, The Regent of Manila, Hotel Mabuhay, Manila Hilton, Christmas carnival (where Dusit Hotel now stands), Villa Pansol and Lido Beach?

    Rizal what?" "Who would be crazy to build a cinema in the middle of nowhere?" It turned out to be the best theater in the city of Makati (at the same site now occupied by Shangri-La Hotel).

    And ate at: The original A&W along UN Avenue in Manila, Aristocrat across Malate Church, Italian Village, café Valenzuela, Bonanza Restaurant, Brown Derby, Little Quiapo, Country Bake Shop, Selecta Restaurants (owned by the Arce family), Taza de Oro; New Europe, Madrid, Cucina Italiana, La Cibeles at A. Mabini, The Plaza, Jade Garden Restaurant, Luau, The Makati Automat, Sulo Restaurant (in Makati), Makati Fastfood Center (the first ever), Bulakena, Casa Marcos, Au Bon Vivant, Salambao Restaurant, Dairy Queen along Buendia, Di Mark's Pizza, the elegant dining room of the old Army & Navy Club. Botica Boie in Escolta, Albas in Florida, Malate Brown Derby and their signature foot-long hotdog came with its special, extra tarty mustard sauce and a hot, crispy bun. We used to park at their drive-in bays after we were exhausted from all-night partying but with enough energy to gobble down sausages and soft drinks.

    The Plaza was the favorite venue for all formal school and social functions. Food was not a big factor so long as cozy couples could have their special table for two.

    You shopped at: Escolta, Harrison Plaza (when it was still clean and had the bump cars), Ali Mall, Rustan's in San Marcelino, Aguinaldo's in Cubao, Quezon City; Shoemart in Makati was a small, split-level affair.

    The original Rustan's was the garage of the Tantoco's residential house which was eventually converted into a dazzling shop filled with eclectic things and collectibles.

    Blockbuster movies were: Love Story, Mahogany, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Planet of the Apes, Star Wars, Logan's Run, Battlestar Galactica, Paper Chase, Enter The Dragon, Jaws, Towering Inferno, Poseidon Adventure, Carrie, Willard (theme song was Ben sang by a young Michael Jackson), Exorcist, Love Bug, Tinimbang Ka Nguni't Kulang.

    You wore, carried or used Denman brush tucked in your back pants pocket, Jordache and Sassoon jeans, Bata rubber shoes, Botak running shoes, Ace flexible comb, Ace clutchbag, Carrera shades, Ray-Ban, Photochromic and Ambermatic shades, Foster Grant sunglasses, Alaskin, tie-dye shirts and pants, double-knit pants, Sergio Valente, Vidal Sassoon, Fiorucci, Banlon, Ye-ye Vonnel shirts, Nik-Nik, Bang-Bang, Faded Glory, Jazzie, Puma Topfit, Tiger Onitsuka, Happy Feet, clogs, Wet look shoes, Pierre Cardin, Brut, Jovan musk oil, Aramis, platform shoes with bell-bottom pants and wide-buckled belts.

    You had your hair styled or permed by: Flavio and Carmen, Nomer's, Lita Rio, Grace Lagman, Dick & Lucy, and Kayumanggi. That was the time of Aqua Net stiff, foot-high beehives, French twist and Kiss Me liquid eye liners and Pretty Quik instant facial blotters.

    You sang: Bobby, Bobby, Bobby by Jo Ann Campbell, Someday by Ricky Nelson, And I Love Her by the Beatles, Cherish by the Association, Because by Dave Clark Five, Distant Shores by Chad and Jeremy, Rainy Days & Mondays by the Carpenters, You've Got a Friend by Carol King, Hundred Miles by Peter, Paul and Mary, Evergreen by Paul Williams.

    Saved whole month's allowance P50 to watch the Beatles perform live at Rizal Memorial Coliseum in 1965.

    It was hip to listen to: Bingo Lacson and Jo San Diego (past midnight) of DZMT, the singing sensations from Ateneo de Manila? RJ and the Riots, The Loonilarks, Joe Mari Chan and the APO Hiking Society and dance to live combo music garbed in cocktail dresses and dark suits.

    DZMT was affiliated with the Manila Times and was the only broadcast station that stayed on the air past midnight. Jo San Diego was their anchor woman (she with the velvety bedroom voice).

    And danced at: Manila Hotel's Jungle Bar, Stargazer, Bayside Night Club (with live music by the Carding Cruz band), and the Nile (and the Italian singing group Five n' Fives), Queue Disco, Circuit Disco, Where else? Altitude 49, Delirium (in Greenbelt), D'Flame, Rino's, and Velvet Slum, Wells Fargo, and Coco Banana.

    After graduation, jam sessions were replaced by night clubs and Bayside was the place to go for live bands and non-stop dancing.

    Do you remember when: Dollar to peso exchange rate was $1 = P7, Walang Tindigan buses charged a flat rate of

    P1, Love Bus fare was P1.50, family size Shakey's Pizza cost less than P40, Malate streets were named after US States (Pennsylvania, Colorado, etc.); Paranaque, San Juan, Makati, Pasig, Las Pinas, Taguig, Pateros and Muntinlupa were municipalities of Rizal province; DLSU was De La Salle College, Poveda was Institucion Teresiana, Adamson University was the original St. Theresa's campus, Robinsons mall was the Assumption Convent campus, Petron was Esso, Villamor Air Base was then known as Nichols Air ;Base, bancas were aplenty in the Baclaran side of Dewey Blvd. (now Roxas Blvd.) and traffic was non-existent in Tagaytay.

    PLDT telephone numbers were five digits and you used your index finger to dial a number one at a time.

    If you remember all these things, you're history in great company and I dare say, happy to be.

    Since the writer was fleeting between two generations (60's-70"s), you party goers surely remember the DynaSouls (dubbed the Beatles of the Philippines), The Tilt Down Men (The Sotto brothers, Tito, & Val, favored the Dave Clark 5) Jaime Jose & the Deltas* (remember Maggie Dela Riva?) What about gate crashing a "Tipar" (for party) and the ensuing rumble between feuding barkadas: The Havocs, Combat*, & Exotics, meron pang kanya-kanyang busina (car honking id).

    Remember BMI (Baguio Military Institute)? That school was a dumping ground for kicked out students from Manila and kids that needed discipline. Let us not forget ang mga taga "Baste" (San Sebastian). Ang daming siga noong araw.

    Sure you remember playing Pelota... And drag racing along Ortigas and behind Meralco..

    Sikat ka sa barkada kung may "syota" (girl friend) kang "Colegiala" (Assumption, STC, St. Scho, Maryknoll, Holy Spirit; and the other schools - St. Paul's, St. Joseph, Centro Escolar ). As proof, you should be wearing her high school ring in your pinkie finger...And dapat karta 9 ...You probably took her out to the Butterfly (at UP) to listen to folk songs and sip Butterfly Iced Tea.

    Did you get to date a "chick" from Brent (Baguio) and IS (Makati)?

    Of course you should have enough cash for the gaso (gas), tsibog (food/dinner) , cover charge/drinks at the Flame or Rino's, konting damo, and for the finale, enough datong (cash) para sa "biglang liko". Or kung gipit for cash, park at the huge lot of Folk Arts and just do it in the car...Kaya lang dapat may "Tapwe" (Singkuwenta pesos) pang lagay sa parak (police), and a handy calling card of a military officer with a hand written note in the back that "you should be given utmost courtesy"... .jeesh...

    Then in the late 70's early 80's came the CB radio phenomenon.. Tibs on Makati Ave. for beer and happy hour at the Manila Garden; always overflowing with beer and chicken wings...Tapos masahe sa Imperial Palace or Maalikaya... To cap the night, a stop at Birds of the Same Feather for smooth jazz courtesy of Eddie Katindig.

    Tapos you get to do it all over again the following day. Take care.

  11. Jesus Christ Superstar was my most memorable. Grade 6 ako nun sa Ateneo. One thing about growing up in Katipunan, they teach you how to appreciate yung performing arts. We looked forward to those annual plays which were almost always musicals. The last play (directed by the tireless "Mr Singson" which to this day still run Ateneo Childrens Theatre yata) we had before out batch graduated was Joseph's and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, brings back haunting memories kasi kasama din namin mga counterparts namin sa Maryknoll hehehe wow that was so long ago.

    Back to JCS...I wore out the LP of that one. Every song is memorable and we all knew them by heart. My favorite scene was when a couple of jet fighter planes swooped on Judas.....Soooo looooong Juuuudas.....pooooor oooold Juuuudas....

    Slide... :cool: My most memorable..... Ibong Adarna... Peter Pan...for Pinoi... mga first crushes; idol-worship (sa mga lead players) our first experiences in harmless flirting.... ;)

    Remember the Jail booth / Marriage Booth / Dedication Booth at the AGS Feast of the Guardian Angels yearly fair ??? ....

  12. meron be sa inyong me naitagong album ng soundtrack ng movie na 'sinta'.

  14. Thanks Blow Gobi for naming the movie. One of the most memorable scene in the movie i remember well is when Larry Flynt who was up on stage was juxtaposed with an American Flag flying at the back..

    Hi Bods..now you got me interested on 54..you think there are DVD's available ? I am sure the songs featured in the OST will make you get down and boogie..Alaxan or no Alaxan :-) Thanks for the info.

  15. I watched " Boogie Nights" (Mark Walhberg; Julianne Moore; Burt Reynolds etc.) a movie set in the 70's (79 to be exact) on cable last Saturday >> the fashion; music and sensibilities are very 70's. Its really amusing to watch the 70's era. What other (recent) period movies set-in-the-seventies do you remember?.. Another good one is the movie about the Hustler publisher, Larry Flynt - i forgot the title.

  16. Hi 16Track. :)

    Thank you for the Circus Band CD :thumbsupsmiley: ..... Pinoy_Strigoi & I can barely concentrate on work.. :rolleyes: The CD, and most specially your visit to our office this morning is truly appreciated... we enjoyed your good company (and hopefully, you enjoyed our good coffee ;) ) ..you are always welcome to come visit us anytime...perhaps, next time, Lunch ?

    Does anybody know the whereabouts of the Circus Band members?? Share naman. I have always been a big fan of the band.

  17. Hi Storm. Kamusta na? Send my regards to Bing. We have been very busy the past year, wala na talagang time for socials. Hopefully, magka time mag EB sometime soon..

    Para di ma OT.. Esmeraldo Izon was a graphic artist diba?

    Si Nonoy Marcelo noong 70's nag break out as a political satirist / cartoonist. Nandito pa ba siya sa Pilipinas?

  18. Girard Peter started out producing fashion shows to lure businessmen into the then La Concha at the Hyatt Regency Manila

    Back in those days, the Hyatt was the only place in town, it was booming -- with Calesa Bar and Circuit Disco at night, Tempura Misono, the only, if not one of the only real classy Japanese Restaurants at the time, the management then thought of an ingenious way to bring in the business crowd so they had top designers like Pitoy Moreno, etc launch fashion shows at the La Concha at the top floor of the Hotel...

    Of course these were the good old days when cocktails with lunch were standard, and what better way to spend a "business lunch" than to be watching Manila's most gorgeous models strut their stuff on the catwalk...

    Girard Peter (obviously not his real name) took it a step further when he launched the "fashion shows" to be more risque and sexy, with the likes of Carmi Martin, Maria Isabel Lopez and if I'm not mistaken "si ako, si ikaw" Maria Teresa Carlson...

    He became rich, and is still rich now... astute businessman with his finger on the pulse of what the market truly wants

    The owner of Girard-Peter was Gerry Reyes (he resembles Hajji Alejandro - small, maporma mega-mustache envelope bag toting. Benz driving-type) and wife Daisy Izon-Reyes. They were rich na rin even before they started the GP models and yes, they became richer... they actually made a pile from semi-tactful pimping of the models. Curious lang.. what career / biz-shift did this couple do?

    I remember the REYES couple (and met them a few times in the early 80's) because one of my college study-batch/ groupmates worked for them. She was earning about Php 15,000 THEN not to mention gifts from her "patrons" had her own apartment and was driving a brand new Toyota Liftback. She worked as GP model to help herself and her brothers to finish college But soon after graduation, she stopped, and took a simple job as Bank Teller earning (then) Php 1,200 which was really quite admirable to start a normal life. She worked her way up, married a simple decent hardworking man, became a lawyer and is now an SVP of one of the leading banks.

  19. I got this in my email......

    ***********************************************

    Heto ang KAPAYAPAAN na alam natin, noong wala pang KAUNLARAN...

    Si Nanay ay nasa bahay pag-uwi namin galing sa paaralan;

    Walang mga bakod at gate ang magkakapit-bahay, kung meron, gumamela lang;

    10 sentimos o diyes lang ang baon: singko sa umaga, singko sa hapon;

    Merong free ang mga patpat ng ice drop: buko man o munggo.

    Mataas ang paggalang sa mga guro at ang tawag sa kanila ay Maestro/a:

    Di binibili ang tubig, pwedeng maki-inom sa di mo kakilala.

    Malaking bagay na ang pumunta sa ilog para mag-picnic, o kaya sa tumana;

    Grabe na ang kaso pag napatawag ka sa principal's office o kaya malaking kahihiyan kapag bagsak ka sa exams;

    Simple lang ang pangarap: makatapos, makapag-asawa, mapagtapos ang mga anak...

    Pwedeng iwan ang sasakyan at ibilin sa hindi mo kakilala; wala namang lock ang mga jeep na Willy's noon.

    Mayroon kaming mga laruan na gawa namin at hindi binili: trak-trakan (gawa sa rosebowl ang katawan at darigold na maliit ang mga gulong, "sketeng" (scooter) na bearing na maingay ang mga gulong at de-sinkong pako para sa preno; patining na pinitpit na tansan lang na may 2 butas sa gitna para suotan ng sinulid (pwede pang makipag-lagutan); sumpak, pilatok, boca-boca, borador, atbp.

    Di nakikialam ang mga matanda sa mga laro ng mga bata: kasi laro nga iyon.

    Maraming usong laro at maraming kasali: laste, gagamba, turumpo, tatsing ng lata, pera namin ay kaha ng Philip Morris, Malboro, Champion (kahon-kahon yon!)

    May dagta ang dulo ng tinting na hawak mo para makahuli tutubi, nandadakma ka ng palakang tetot, pero ingat ka sa palakang saging dahil sa kulugo;

    Butas na ang sakong ng Spartan mong tsinelas - suot mo pa rin;

    Namumugalgal ang pundiya ng kansolsilyo mo kasi nakasalampak ka sa lupa.

    Sa modernong buhay at sa lahat ng kasaganaan sa high technology.. . di ba minsan nangarap ka na rin... mas masaya noong araw!

    Sana pwedeng maibalik...

    Takot tayo ngayon sa buhay. Kasi maraming napapatay, nakikidnap, maraming addict at masasamang loob...

    Noon takot lang tayo sa ating mga magulang at mga lolo at lola. Pero ngayon, alam na natin na mahal pala nila tayo kayat ayaw tayong mapahamak o mapariwara.. . Na una silang nasasaktan pag pinapalo nila tayo...

    Balik tayo sa nakaraan kahit saglit...

    Bago magkaroon ng internet, computer, at cellphone.

    Noong wala pang mga drugs at malls.

    Bago pa nauso ang counter strike at mga game boys.

    Tayo noon... Doon ...

    Tinutukoy ko ang harang taga o tumbang preso kapag maliwanag ang buwan;

    Ang pagtatakip mo ng mata pero nakasilip sa pagitan ng mga daliri pag nanonood ka ng nakakatakot sa

    "Mga Aninong Gumagalaw"

    Unahan tayong sumagot sa Multiplication Table na

    kabisado natin, kasi wala namang calculator.

    Pag-akyat natin sa mga puno; pagkakabit ng kulambo, lundagan sa kama ;

    Pagtikwas o pagtitimba sa poso; pingga ang pang-igib ng lalake at may dikin naman ang ulo ng babae;

    Inaasbaran ng mga suberbiyo;

    Nginig na tayo pag lumabas na ang yantok-mindoro o buntot-page.

    Nai-sako ka rin ba? O kaya naglagay ka ba ng karton

    sa pwet para hindi masakit ang tsinelas o sinturon?

    Pamimili ng bato sa bigas; tinda-tindahan na puro dahon naman; bahay-bahayan na puro kahon; naglako ka ba ng ice-candy o pandesal noong araw?

    Karera sa takbuhan hanggang maubos ang hininga; pagtawa hanggang sumakit ang tiyan;

    Meron pa bang himbabao, kulitis at pongapong? O kaya ang lukaok, susuwi at espada?

    Susmaryosep ang nadidinig mo pag nagpapaligo ng bata...

    Estigo santo kapag nagmamano.

    Mapagod sa kakalaro, minsan mapalo; matakot sa "berdugo" at sa "kapre";

    Tuwang-tuwa kami pag tinalo ang tinale ni itay kasi may tinola!

    Yung crush mo?

    Pag recess: mamimili ka sa garapon ng tinapay -alembong, taeng-kabayo o biscocho?

    Pwede ring ang sukli ay kending Vicks (meron pang libreng singsing) o kaya nougat o karamel;

    Kung gusto mo naman - pakumbo o kaya kariba,

    mas masaya kung inuyat;

    Puriko ang mantika, at mauling na ang mukha at ubos

    na ang hininga mo sa ihip kasi mahirap magpa-rikit ng apoy.

    Madami pa...

    Masarap ang kamatis na piniga sa kamay at lumabas

    sa pagitan ng daliri para sa sawsawan; ang palutong pag isawsaw sa sukang may siling labuyo; ang duhat kapag inalog sa asin; ang isa-sang isubo ang daliri kasi puno na ng kanin...

    Halo-halo: yelo, asukal at gatas lang ang sahog;

    Sakang ang lakad mo at nakasaya ka kasi bagong tuli ka; o naghahanap ka ng chalk kasi tinagusan ang palda mo sa eskwelahan.

    Lipstick mo ay papel de hapon;

    Labaha ang gamit para sa white-side-wall na gupit;

    Naglululon ka ng banig pagkagising; matigas na amirol ang mga punda at kumot; madumi ang manggas ng damit mo kasi doon ka nagpapahid ng sipon, di ba? Pwede rin sa laylayan...

    May mga program kapag Lunes sa paaralan;

    May pakiling kang dala kung Biyernes kasi magi-isis ka ng desk.

    Di ba masaya? Naalala mo pa ba?

    Wala nang sasaya at gaganda pa sa panahon na yon...

    Masaya noon at masaya pa rin tayo ngayon habang ina-alaala iyon...

    Di ba noon...

    Ang mga desisyon ay ginagawa sa awit na "sino ba sa dalawang ito?

    Ito ba o ito?" Pag ayaw ang resulta di ulitin: "sino ba sa dalawang ito? Ito ba o ito?"...

    Awit muna: Penpen de Serapen, de kutsilyo, de almasen. How how the carabao batuten...

    Presidente ng klase ay ang pinakamagaling, hindi ang pinaka-mayaman;

    Masaya na tayo basta sama-sama kahit hati-hati sa kokonti;

    Nauubos ang oras natin sa pagku-kwentuhan, may oras tayo sa isat-isa;

    Naaasar ka kapag marami kang sunog sa sungka; kapag buro ka sa pitik-bulag o matagal ka ng taya sa holen.

    Yung matatandang kapatid ang pinaka-ayaw natin pero sila ang tinatawag natin pag napapa-trouble tayo.

    Di natutulog si Inay, nagbabantay pag may trangkaso tayo; meron tayong skyflakes at Royal sa tabi at pahihigupin ng mainit na Royco.

    Kung naaalaala mo ito... nabuhay ka na sa

    KAPAYAPAAN!

    Pustahan tayo nakangiti ka pa rin!
