  1. I've never had a problem with PAL when it came to refunds and such. And their customer service reps are much better equipped to handle situations, regardless if it's on the phone or face-to-face.

I've flown only two other international airlines so far: Singapore Airlines and China Air. No problems there so far. Boo Cebu Pacific! Worst airline in Southeast Asia!

  2. My personal complaint about CebuPac is their new "no refunds" policy that started last December 2009. If you have to cancel a flight, even if it's way before the 24-hr limit for avoiding the "no-show" charge, you still get fined P2,500 per way (so 5k for round trips). My beef is this: a family emergency forced me to postpone indefinitely what should've been a vacation in Japan. Not having any definite ideas on when I might fly again, I chose to cancel the ticket merely a day after it was bought. My flight was still 3 weeks away, so I figured I'd rather shoulder the P5,000 cancellation penalty rather than risk it being forfeited in case I still could not fly within the ticket's validity period (for rebookings). What a nasty surprise I got when CebuPac officials flatly refused to refund my money. What they do now for cancelled tickets, they said, is put the money (net of the penalty) into a "Travel Fund," from which I could deduct future tickets. To aggravate matters further, the travel fund was only good for 90 days, after which any money left within would be totally forfeited. Darned and double darned! What about people like me who aren't frequent fliers, and who definitely cannot fly within the stated 90-day limit (because of our family emergency)? Does that mean I have to resign myself to the very real possibility that my P22,000+ ticket would just sink down the drain just like that? Talk about highway robbery! It seems CebuPac is one of those companies where, once money gets in, it won't be allowed to find its way out, however legit the reasons. Because of this, I've resolved NEVER to fly Cebu Pac ever again.

I've heard of horror stories of being bumped off flights because of overbooking, of flights being cancelled without prior warning because not enough people had bought into the cancelled flight (and therefore CebuPac was squeezing everyone into the next flight to save on fuel). To this day, they're very well-known for enticing the public with ultra-cheap plane seats, only to tell customers those flights have been bought up once they call in to buy them. This tactic is called bait-and-switch: advertise a dirt-cheap product, then claim it's been sold out when the customer comes in, so that you could offer a slightly more expensive product that has the price you really wanted to sell at. Years ago, I was willing to give CebuPac the benefit of the doubt because an expanding company will have growing pains. But no. CebuPac isn't a fledgling airline anymore. It's been around for more than a decade. Yet its facilities and the quality of service personnel remain below par.

No more Mr. Nice Guy from me anymore. Enough cutting them some slack. Mr. John Gokongf#&kingwei, your companies are very well-known for less-than-honest tactics. Go! Hotels is like this. So is Sun Cellular. You just lost one customer here. And I hope more follow after they see through your abominable airline.

  3. I really am scratching my head over the better pixels on the Xbox360. Alam naman ng lahat that the PS3 has a more powerful processor. It's fast enough to decode Blu-Ray movies nga diba? Pero comparing NBA Live on my cousin's PS3 and on my Xbox, the Xbox definitely has smoother pixels. Mas bago pa nga TV ng cousin ko eh, so that rules out TV screen quality.

If you have your Xbox hacked to play pirated games, there is no chance in hell you're going to be able to play online in Xbox Live. The software hack will be detected by Microsoft, and you will be banned from playing there for good. It comes down to your priorities: expensive games but able to play online with players all over the world, or buy plenty of cheap pirated titles but be banned from online gameplay forever?

  4. I'll tell you guys what's special about Starbucks: its genius marketing. Period. Starbucks was named "Starbuck," after a character on Moby Dick. The company sold coffee beans and equipment only, and it was after Howard Schultz, inspired after a visit to Milan, came up with the idea of selling espressos and other kinds of brews on-site that the idea really took off.

What Howard Schultz did was create the concept of a "coffee bar," something larger than the traditional coffee shop, yet still retained an air of coziness. (This is why you'll never see a Starbucks store smaller than 100 sq.m.) Coffee-wise, madaming brands ang mas malasa pa kesa sa Starbucks, as seen in last year's Consumer Reports blind taste test. Pero what made Starbucks click was, as many of you have said, that it has become a good meeting place, something where the aroma of fresh coffee and subdued lighting (as opposed to Dunkin Donuts or other fastfood places) made it ideal for hanging out, or even studying/working.

When you hang out at a Starbucks, you're paying not as much for the coffee (which costs very little to make), but more for the place. The similar success stories of Figaro, UCC, Seattle's Best and other coffee chains attests to this. 17,133 stores in 49 countries. I guess a lot of people agree with Mr. Schultz's concept.

*btw, I am not in any way connected to Starbucks, so forget any unjustified criticism.

  5. noyzky7, those are US prices, so there can't be an apples-to-apples comparison without the Philippine price tag yet. The HP Touchsmart is indeed around P75,000 in the Phils. With the Touchsmart using intel i5 as default processor, panalo ang HP sa processing power. Core2Duo is starting to become old hat as 2010 ends.

  6. Sogo has always been my go-to place. Yes, maliit at laging puno ang cheaper rooms, but in all my experiences w/ them, wala pa naman akong bad things to say.

--Be patient, a cheap room will open up. Understand that weekends are not the best time to be a walk-in customer.

--In my case, I'm not there for the ambiance or food. Sogo is a clean place with a bed and an aircon, and that's all I need to unleash my pent-up sexual energy.

--Rates are very reasonable. Last time ko was last Friday, and it was at Sogo Monumento EDSA. P260 for 3 hrs. No problem at all with waiting for a room, just 5 mins in the waiting lounge. Room was clean and aircon was already running when I went in. Soap, towels and slippers all complete.

--Well-lit hallways and easy-to-remember layout in case of fire. Do not underestimate the importance of these things. You only need one disaster to make you regret things--if you're still alive to regret it, that is.

  7. Ito motto ko for my kids when they start to stand on their own feet:

"Human nature will not flourish, any more than a potato,

if it be planted and replanted for too long a series of

generations in the same worn-out soil. My children have

had other birthplaces, and, so far as their fortunes may

be within my control, shall strike their roots into

    unaccustomed earth."

    --Nathaniel Hawthorne

  8. that gf and bf are using the lap pool to do something fishy in the pool..since lap pools are most of the time empty..

is this in Club Manila East?

i always encounter pairs like these..

remember..if they are not swimmers, and they are couples and they are in the lap pool..something fishy is going on ..

Kasi nga "lap pool" daw, so doon sila naglalaplapan. Corny, I know, I know :D

  9. Women with a good chin. Not babalu, but someone with a more than average-sized chin. Case in point: I would never want to date someone who has the chin of Maui Taylor--halos walang baba. Pero yung baba ni Bea Alonzo, or ni Alicia Silverstone, turn on! Pero indi yung kay Ai-Ai delas Alas. Magkakapasa ako nun sa mukha pag mag-French kiss kami.

  11. kamote ka pala eh! I was backreading and i didn't even notice the date. Sorry kung nainsulto ko yung laptop mo. You're the one who has an ego issue. Malas mo kung wala kang pera pambili ng magandang laptop. Maybe your mom and dad don't love you enough that's why you know the feeling of a child that has not been hugged enough. I'll ignore your succeeding posts so don't bother replying.

I bought my laptops with my own money. It's obvious you have to rely on parental love and generosity to get your own. What a douchebag loser. LMFAO!

Ganyan din ang mga DOM na kiddie-size ang ari eh, poporma na parang X'mas tree sa dami ng alahas. Teka, diba Rain Man was a film about an autistic person? Figures.

  13. for the Shoppingerras, go to Tung Chung, Citygate Outlet. You'll find sport's wears, accessories, designer fashions and children's wear in an air-conditioned shopping mall. Its just a minute walk from Tung Chung MTR.

There are more than 50 stores with discounts up to 60% OFF, like Mango, PUMA, Adidas, Nike, Giordano, Esprit, CLub 21 (which houses DKNY, Armani), Prada, Coach, Burberry, Kate Spade etc. hinigop ako ng mga shops sa Hong Kong. buti nakalabas ako ng buhay!

I was about to report this, pero meron na palang post.

This is a very good shopping outlet for branded items. I get my sneakers here, and they mark down their prices way ahead of Nike and Adidas in the Philippines. You could get them for as low as 50% off while they're still full price in Manila. Great shops too, wide selection of shoe models, unlike in depots in Manila. They also have a good bakeshop downstairs and coffee shops all around, in case you need a mid-shopping snack break.
