Novotel nakadikit mismo sa Platinum mall. But I prefer Berkeley as you get more in terms of amenities with practically the same rates.

Bali is one of the more affordable destinations these days. The beachfront hotels are surprisingly cheap, same goes with the food if you know where to look. A very far cry from when I first went there 15 or so years ago when there weren't any direct flights from the Ph. You would have had to go through a very adventurous route, but all would be worth it when you got there. It's great that everything is easy and cheap when you go there today. Can't wait to go back!

I was here twice in May, both for work trips. I know some people still seem to love Boracay, but to me it's nowhere near as nice as it used to be. Honestly, I don't think I'll be heading back anytime soon. The resort was ok though. Even if the room felt small, I appreciated the direct pool access of the beach wing of Henann Prime.

If anyone happened to catch Obama's statements at the end of the ASEAN summit, now that's the way to deliver digs without stooping to profanity. Heck, even Putin knows how to deliver stabs diplomatically, and without cursing. Notice the very slight smile (or smirk?) when he mentions certain things. Those with some knowledge in "diplomatese" can translate this statement properly:

"My hope and expectation is that as President Duterte and his team get acclimated to his new position and that they are able to define and, clarify what exactly they want to get done, how that fits in with the work we're already doing with the Philippine government, and hopefully it will be on a strong footing by the time the new administration comes in"

Subtle, but not too subtle that Duterte's "team" won't have too much trouble understanding it. Am I happy that Obama had to say this? Nope, it was a diplomatic slap, but a slap nonetheless. Did our country deserve it? Nope, but our President and his "team" sure did.

The president wanted the question to be specific. Siguro kung sinagot ng reporter yun Filipino Community, iba ang naging sagot nya. Kung sinagot siguro yun mga world leaders na kakausapin nya ng personal, iba din naging sagot nya. So binigyan din ni Duterte ng specific na sagot itong reporter na ito. Yun lang. No need to overcomplicate this out of its intended proportion.

"Overcomplicating" would be bringing up conjectures as to how he would have answered if a different question was asked. That would of course be a useless discussion as it did not happen that way. Take this, for example: If Duterte is of the stance that the Philippines answers to no country, then he hypothetically would have cursed (or threatened to curse) every other world leader the reporter would have hypothetically mentioned.

Yes, it is a figure of speech, but it is most definitely an insult. Just because it was a figure of speech doesn't mean it wasn't an insult. It was addressed to Filipinos, to show his lack of respect for the entire nation of America. It was a very clear and uncomplicated statement.

It seemed like a legitimate question to raise. The reporter didn't even bring up America or Obama, until Duterte asked. It is actually common knowledge (or at least to reporters who follow international relations, and to anyone who reads news from foreign media and not just local "yellow" press) that Obama had already previously mentioned that he would be bringing up that issue if and when he meets with Duterte. The reporter was actually showing awareness of goings-on related to the ASEAN summit by asking that question and when pressed by Duterte, by relating it to Obama. That's not being a lap dog, that's being a reporter.

Kung pakikingan ng tama yun gist ng sinabi ni Duterte, tama naman sya. Una sa lahat ang US ay may mahabang history ng pagiging bastos, at pakikialam sa mga bansang mas maliliit sa kanila. Akala nila sila na lang lagi pwede magdikta mga polisiya sa mga sovereign territories. Bukod pa dyan sila pa nga itong hindi pinapansin mga subpoena sa kanila ng UN. You seem like a reasonably educated person, so you should understand that this is a straw man (with the added bonus of an ad hominem). Sure, the US likes to push its weight around and meddle in the affairs of other countries, but does that make Human Rights Violations or Extrajudicial Killings right?

Just because the US has its fair share of HRVs, doesn't mean it can't call another country out for not acting on or preventing the increase of HRVs or EJKs. It's like saying an acknowledged philandering womanizer can't call an unmarried woman immoral for having a boyfriend. Oops, wait. I think I remember something like that happened a few weeks ago.

It doesn't seem addressed to the reporter. "Dyan sa forum na iyan." Was Duterte expecting that same reporter to ask him pointed questions at the upcoming forum (ASEAN summit)? Was that reporter even going to be at the ASEAN summit? Seems quite a stretch to think that this was directed at the reporter.

But here's the kicker (hehe). I wonder if we read the same transcript, but this seems very direct:

Sino pa? Hindi ako bilib diyan sa Amerika. Gusto mo sipain ko pa iyan sa harap mo eh.

Duterte may or may not have directly cursed Obama, but it looks like he just insulted the entire United States of America.

You actually believe critics of Duterte are happy that people have died? When you start believing that people with opinions different to yours think like soulless animals or barbarians, you should probably start looking inward and do an honest self assessment.
