  1. I have an Acer Aspire 4745G which i bought a few months ago.

Core i3-370M (2.4 Ghz), 500 GB HHD, Mobility Radeon 5650 1GB (can switch to using the built-in intel HD GPU for lower power consumption on-the-fly), 14" LED LCD, 4GB DDR3 (upgraded, since it only came with 2GB).

Pretty satisfied with it, i can play StarCraft 2 on medium settings and Halo 2 on high settings. Using intel's HD GPU idle temp is around 32-34 C; using the Radeon 5650 GPU it jumps 8-10 degrees on idle. It can get pretty warm when playing demanding games (temperature spikes at 71-77 C) so i suggest using this laptop in a well ventilated room and with a laptop cooling pad when gaming.

  2. Just finished building my new home workstation yesterday

    - 3.2 GHz Core i5 650

    - Asus P7H55-M pro

    - 2GB DDR3 1333 (planning to upgrade this to 4GB soon)

    - 2x320 GB Seagate HDD's

    - Corsair 700W PSU

    - GeForce 250 GT

    -Sony DVD-RW drives

    - 22" inch LG widescreen 16:9 LCD monitor

    - 5.1 Creative speakers

Some of the parts (PSU, GPU, HDDs, monitor, DVD-RW drives, and speakers) where salvaged from my older rig

  3. Question po, I want to buy a laptop for myself gusto ko gamitin for gaming (Neverwinter Nights iinstall ko, maganda daw yun eh alam ko matagal na yun pero gusto ko pa din yun), watching DVDs, net surfing (mabilis), music din. Ano po ba recommended mo na sakto sa hanap ko pero affordable price pa din.. pahingi po ng brand name, OS na recommended, at mga specs na dapat ko sabihin sa merchant. Many thanks!

How much is your budget? "Affordable" has different meaning to different people. Personally, i don't consider "gaming laptops" affordable to the average Filipino (some can go up to 3,000 to 4,000 US dollars, as much as a decent second hand car...yes that's not in Peso). I'm assuming that you have more than a 80K budget, you would want to look at a laptop with a dedicated GPU (preferably one that is made by Nvidia or ATI with its own dedicated memory of at least 256MB and NOT memory shared with the CPU). Look at Nvidia and ATI's website to check out their current crop of GPUs for laptops (i personally wouldn't go lower than a Geforce 9600M GT or its ATI counterpart)

Any current CPU from Intel (i do not recommend Core i7 since the price is exorbitantly high)or AMD (AMD currently sell the cheapest quad-core CPU's)will do.

For RAM, (if you're OS is 32-bit) go for 4 Gigs of DDR3 1333 in dual channel mode (2 sticks of 2GB memory modules)

For OS, go for Windows 7 Home edition (32-bit; since very few games are programmed to run on 64-bit).

As always, i really do not give priority to "brand names" since you pay much much more. But if you're dead-set on a gaming laptop, Alienware, Dell XPS, and Voodoo are quite good. These cost an arm and a leg though, plus only a few vendors actually sell these brands.

  4. A direct answer will be no. You don't need to be constantly connected online. But still have to be "initially" connected to the net for authentication.

Once you authenticate your battle.net account, you can "play as guest". You can play the campaign or Vs AI mode, but no achievements will be saved.

If you get disconnected while logged-in, your game will still progress.

So its best to play as guest if you're always playing offline.

Thanks pards, this clears most of my issues with the game (I've had a bad experience with the original Assassin's Creed 2). I can finally confidently buy it this weekend ^_^

Too bad LAN support was not included. Though i really don't like online gaming, it would have been nice to set up a LAN party with friends (brings back memories of college days where we used to play StarCraft until 4am in our dormitory through LAN back in 1998). I hate the idea of being dependent on one (or a few) servers.

  5. Well yung mga achievements naka link sa battle.net account mo so you can't get any achievements recorded when offline.

    I see...

But it still doesn't answer my question. Do you need to be constantly online while playing the game so that the game would work or is it just for authentication purposes while installing it (aside from recording your achievements on battle.net during actual gameplay)? ^_^

  6. Questions sa mga early purchasers ng original StarCraft 2 game

Required ba na constantly online ang computer para lang maglaro or is it just for authentication purposes during installation? I plan to install this on my laptop (so i can play the game during long trips which of course doesn't give me the option to be constantly online). And i only really want to play the campaign/story mode. I'm not a big fan of online gaming.

I was holding back from buying the game because of this.

    Can anyone clarify?

  7. What's a good laptop/notebook that you could recommend? I'm a teacher kasi and most of the time, I need one for slideshows and web browsing in school since may wi-fi. Yung bang for the buck. :D

I guess you're not a power-user. Any netbook from a reputable brand will do you good (they're very portable too). Some go for less than 20K. Majority have no optical drives though.

  8. I'm all for Sex Ed being taught in school. The more kids know about it, the more responsible they become. Dun kasi uso yung padamihan nang anak since minimal o zero ang knowledge nila about family planning.

Eka nga sa G.I. Joe..."knowing is half the battle"

  9. The A-Team 9/10

A great remake/reboot of a classic 80's TV series. The movie captured most of the quirks and comedy of the old cast (Dirk Benedict et al.) including their mannerisms. For those unfamiliar with the TV series the group were portrayed as Vietnam War veterans framed for a crime they didnt commit and constantly being chased by the military. The choice of chartacters to play B.A. Barracus, Face, and Murdoch where dead-on. I previously held reservations about Liam Neeson being cast as Hannibal Smith, but after watching the movie my complaints and skepticism stopped.

Non-stop action, funny dialogue, good plot....A great movie all around. Its a trip down memory lane for people who where big fans of the original tv series. Those new to the A-Team won't get lost since the movie tackles their origins as well (albeit updated for modern times).

Go out and watch it! :D

  10. I'm loyal to Logitech. But for emergencies (and if i currently dont have enough money) A4Tech is a good and cheap brand. I currently have an A4Tech gaming keyboard i use as back-up that, after more than 2 years of constant use and abuse, still works great...been waiting for it to break so i can buy a new one.
