  1. Philippines adds Chinese New Year to holidays

"The joint celebration is a manifestation of our solidarity with our Chinese Filipino brethren who have been part of our lives in many respects as a country and as a people," Aquino's order said.

Scholars say about two percent of the Philippine population is Chinese.

But many prominent families, including Aquino's clan, have Chinese ancestry

Madaming dapat asikasuhin kaysa declaration ng chinese new year as holyday bwahaha. un na lang kasi ang kayang isipin ni pres abnoy

  2. Philippines adds Chinese New Year to holidays

Philippine President Benigno Aquino Thursday declared Chinese New Year an official holiday, ignoring the objections of some in the business community who say there are already too many public holidays.

It means the Chinese New Year, also known as the spring festival or lunar new year, will be celebrated annually from January 23, 2012.

"The joint celebration is a manifestation of our solidarity with our Chinese Filipino brethren who have been part of our lives in many respects as a country and as a people," Aquino's order said.

The Chinese New Year becomes one of 17 holidays that will be recognised by the Philippines in 2012 including Christian holidays such as Christmas and Easter and Muslim holidays Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.

Scholars say about two percent of the Philippine population is Chinese.

But many prominent families, including Aquino's clan, have Chinese ancestry and the Chinese New Year is a peak season for Hong Kong and Chinese tourists to come to the Philippines.

  5. Before the SC's final ruling, Noynoy pretends that he is neutral about the Hacienda Luisita issue, because he is just a "minor" stockholder.

Now that SC finally gave justice to the farmers' land reform claims, he is now insisting that his relatives be given "just compensation" for the land that will be "taken away" from them.

If you look at the history of Hacienda Luisita, practically, laway lang ang puhunan ng mga aquino-cojuangco clan dyan. Since the beginning, money was provided for by the government. So kung laway lang ang puhunan, then their just compensation should be a spit on each of their faces.

tubong lugaw talaga sila nung time ni magsaysay

pero i bet, pag naulit ung luisita masaker, may magsasabi nanaman na "maawa kayo naghihirap na po kami"

Solon: PH’s appointed ambassador to China ‘unqualified’

    ..

In fear of a disastrous outcome, a senator appealed to President Benigno Aquino III to withdraw the appointment of Domingo Lee as the country’s ambassador to China.

Senator Sergio Osmena, also a member of the powerful Commission on Appointment, expressed his concern over Lee’s alleged incompetence and inexperience after failing to convince the commission that he is qualified for the position.

“I can see several pending disasters that's going to happen if you put an incompetent person like Domingo Lee as ambassador to Beijing and I am appealing to the president to withdraw his nomination because it is not fair to the Filipino people,” Osmena said.

During Lee’s confirmation hearing Wednesday, the senator asked him if he’s aware of the official Chinese newspaper The Global Times which called for a war against the Philippines and Vietnam over the South China Sea.

The appointed ambassador, however, admitted that he has not read the article.

Lee also failed to define correctly the terms “diplomacy” and “hard power” during the hearing.

Osmena said he “can’t even quantify the danger to the Filipino people” if the ambassador would be that “laid-back.”

“That's what I am telling Malacañang. Ipadala mo iyan sa Argentina o sa Italy, hindi ako mag-question diyan pero we're about to go to war with the second most powerful nation in the world. Their economy is already number two, their military is about to become number two. And then we're going to send somebody like this guy,” the senator added.

Osmena further claimed that Aquino’s personal friendship with Lee has overtaken national interest.

The commission suspended its hearing without endorsing Lee’s appointment to the plenary.

From EDSA to Cory Aquino Avenue?

A lawmaker has filed a bill that seeks to rename Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to Cory Aquino Avenue in honor of the late former president.

EDSA is historic for being the site of the 1986 People Power Revolution that toppled the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos and paved the way for Aquino’s presidency.

“It would be but a fitting tribute to former President Corazon Aquino, woman of courage and valor, that EDSA, an avenue that became testament to the country’s love of democracy, be named after her,” said author Bohol Rep. Rene Relampagos in the explanatory note of House Bill 5422.

EDSA, the main circumferential road and highway of Manila, was formerly known as Highway 54, representing the 54-kilometer stretch of the avenue. It was then renamed for Filipino historian Epifanio delos Santos in 1959 through Republic Act 2140.

The bill, which is now currently pending before the House committee on public works and highways, seeks to repeal the republic act.

Relampagos also noted that EDSA should be renamed after the late president because one cannot think of the 1986 EDSA Revolution without thinking of Aquino.

However, the changing of the name of EDSA to Cory Aquino Avenue, which is now becoming popular to social networking sites, has irked a few Filipino netizens.

Twitter user dexterbibo said, “EDSA to Cory Aquino Avenue? para san? mababawasan ba ang traffic kung papalitan ng pangalan? ang dami pang dapat pagtuunan ng pansin #wagyan”

“We have Pres Noynoy Aquino. We have Ninoy Aquino Int’l Airport. Then EDSA to Cory Aquino Avenue? Oh my! Wait, Kris Aquino is everywhere!” user Mam_Charo said.

User superstarmarian, the fake account of Marian Rivera, also pointed out, "nakapangalan na kay ninoy ang worst erport, ipapangalan pa ke cory ang worst hiway wid d worst trapik?"

    ----------------------------------------------

Contrary to what lawmakers goal in anti-epal bill, changing edsa to cory aquino ave. as a bill??? sarap ipunas sa wetpu ang papel na yan

This is the ultimate of what the oligrachs are doing to perpetuate themselves in power. Making full use of propaganda and subliminal messages. Many gullible Pinoys are actually falling for it.

just to add, isa sa mga pasimuno nyan is ung babaeng nakatayo sa tabi ng painting, isa sa anak ni cory, isa sa magbenifits in case na swertehing manalo si abnoy, at after 1year nanalo nga.

  10.

    http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/87731/aquino-kin-to-collect-luisita-toll-again

Philippine Daily Inquirer 10:45 pm | Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Starting Nov. 7, motorists using the San Miguel Road, a private road inside the 6,000-hectare Hacienda Luisita owned by relatives of President Benigno Aquino, will be required to pay toll whenever they take this route to get in and out of the government-built Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx).

Motorists were notified about this plan through three billboards which were put up on Wednesday, although a cease and desist order (CDO) served by the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) on June 2 remained in effect, according to TRB spokesperson Julius Corpuz.

The notices did not state the name of the company that ordered the collection or the firm that it authorized to collect the fees, Corpuz said when asked for details.

“The TRB directors have been informed [about the content of the billboards] and the course of action is now being explored should they decide to reimpose the fees,” Corpuz said.

Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., one of the owners of Hacienda Luisita Inc. (HLI) and who answered media queries on the same issue last year, did not reply to a call and text by the Inquirer.

In a text message last June, Cojuangco identified the Brown International Corporate Services Inc. (Bicsi) as the company collecting the fees. He did not reply when asked who contracted Bicsi to do the task.

In June, tickets turned in by motorists to the Inquirer bore the names “JCSI-Bicsi” and “SCI-MAC.”

Lawyer Antonio Ligon, counsel of HLI, reiterated on Thursday that the company has nothing to do with the collection of toll, which Cojuangco referred to then as “pass through fees” amounting to P20 for cars, P50 for minibuses, vans and small trucks, and P100 for large buses and trucks.

Ligon said the HLI could not be collecting fees on that road because it belongs to the Tarlac Development Corp. (TDC).

The road passes through HLI’s 2.7-kilometer road, which was extended to the 5-km TDC road, he said.

Cojuangco said the fees would be used to maintain and repair the San Miguel Road.

According to Corpuz, the June 2 CDO drew three replies from HLI, Jose Cojuangco and Sons Inc. (JCSI) and Bicsi.

“They wrote us in TRB to tell us that they’re suspending the collection out of courtesy but this is not a waiver of their right to collect toll for the road,” Corpuz said. “They consider the CDO invalid.”

A TRB check with the Securities and Exchange Commission showed that Bicsi is doing services for JCSI.

The plan to impose and collect toll, or pass through fees, was not consulted with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, according to Arnel Paciano Casanova, president and chief executive officer of the agency.

“We are not supporting it,” he said. “We are of the understanding that [the road] should be for public use and for free.” This, he added, was the “consideration for building the [Luisita] interchange there.”

  15. You guys are reaching with this foot-stomping argument. It happens 6 times the whole fight and you think that's why Manny couldn't solve the riddle? Look around, there's a video of Manny stepping on Marquez's foot, too. Do you think Manny is a cheater? If you're observant enough to look at their stances you'll see that its bound to happen.

yes they both stepping in one anothers foot, the only difference is jmm is a sore looser. Retiring after the fight is a beat funny how he cant accept his 2 looses. even he win in pac vs jmm 4 he will be always a looser. Its a payback time after pac vs jmm 1, after he escape for a possible lose he choose to avoid a quick rematch with pacquiao and go to indonesia to fight chris john, then loss to less popurlar boxer. if we look at his personality he is a real life comedian. better than pac? think again.
