dakine48
50k a month? that seems way too low for Manila standards......unless you live a very simplistic lifestyle....eating only fish and rice, etc. I plan to invest in various properties in makati, qc, and some beach houses by the time i retire. id6230
It ultimately depends on one's lifestyle in calculating the amount of money a retiree needs. Metro Manila is of course very expensive if you want to maintain your lifestyle living in a "developed country". Its your money, spend it the way you want. Just don't be swell headed just because you have more money than the average Juan dela Cruz. Quote Link to comment

MA? There are a lot of vets who have opted to retire here and managed to make it even with PO1 retainer pay (just basing the presumption on your collar device). It's just a matter of knowing what you want, setting your goals and sticking with your plans. Anchor's Aweigh! Cheers! Quote Link to comment

Thank you Sir Raoul for the kind and encouraging words..I guess I dread the fact of transitioning to "civilian life" and not having a job anymore..you're right I just need to adjust, and set realistic goals to have a "good retirement". BTW I hope you don't mind; Are you in the service? Are you active duty? Have a great day. Quote Link to comment

After having that "security blanket" for 20 years, all of a sudden you'll be faced with the big UNKNOWN factor. Prepare for it. Use TAMP to the fullest. Start sending out feelers as far as jobs - if you still have a need to work. As a vet, you will always have an advantage. Quote Link to comment

The general feeling I get from the few posts hereis that a passive income of 30,000 to 50,000 pesos per monthis enough to make people feel comfortable na? That's useful information.About 1,000 to 2,000 per day is what we're talking about.Something to keep in mind whenever politiciansor economists talk about poverty. If almost everyone could receive 1,000 pesos per daywhat would happen to the mood of our country, will it become more upbeat, more optimistic? Quote Link to comment
longhegrin
To earn 50,000 a month (600,000 a year)from a time deposit that pays 6.00% net you must deposit ten million pesos (10,000,000). 10,000,000 times 6.00% = 600,000 a year What do you guys think? Quote Link to comment

Sir Longherin...you have a very good point..Depende siguro sa lifestyle na one is accustomed to..Siguro I'll be doing ok kung sa probinsya lang ako at ang worry ku lang e makakain ng 3 or 4 na beses sa isang araw. I can work anywhere naman basta marangal. Quote Link to comment
bantalman
Maybe you can invest before you retire there. There are options you can do, like have to operate a small B & B(pension house ) and live off the income at the same time. Quote Link to comment
