Local MMA Updates:

URCC Bacolod Brawl will be tom October 17th (tomorrow) and will feature URCC veteran and SEA Games Wrestling Gold medalist Mar Basas against Dennis Retada.

Rogue Magazine's Black Tie Brawl Featuring fighters from the URCC will be held on October 24th at the Renaissance Hotel Makati, tickets are 4,500php and 6,700php respectively (I think this comes with a five course dinner) and attire for those attending will be formal. They're striving for a James '007' Bond / Casino Royale feel at this year's Black Tie Brawl. One of the Featured bouts will be former FFC middleweight champion Razzi 'the Iranian' Jbarri against Angelito 'the Saint' Manguray who won his last fight against Hybrid Yaw Yan's Jerry Legaspi in impressive fashion. Manguray who is 41 is said to be the local version of UFC great Randy the Natural Couture.

URCC 15: Onslaught will be on November 14th at the World Trade Center in Pasay. Multiple time SEA Games gold medalist Marcus Valda finally makes his long awaited MMA debut against Hybrid Yaw Yan's Ryan Pagalinawan who had an impressive knockout of another SEA Games wrestling gold medalist Mar Basas in his last URCC outing.

and last for the year will be the 2nd M1 Global MMA Event to be held at the Pasay Sports Center on December 19th.

And oh... I'm on the fight card of one of these events. so guys wish me luck. :thumbsupsmiley:

Also QTV Channel 11 Show 'THE BEAT' will be featuring a segment on MMA in the Philippines on October 19, 10PM. They actually filmed and performed interviews on one of Team SPRAWL MMA's training sessions for the said segment so please do watch it if you guys got time.

Happy Weekend Everyone. :thumbsupsmiley:

Lyoto by KO. Hehe. Shogun is a great striker but Lyoto is a cut above the rest when it comes to counterstriking.

I actually do not consider Machida's style as being counter striking but rather it's an integration of the 'hit and elude' strategy that is so common practice among karate practitioners (especially since in kumite the emphasis is to score a point quickly via single punch or kick) into MMA. My heart is with Shogun as I have been a long time fan of Rua ever since his days in PRIDE but I just don't think anyone's figured Machida's 'timing' out yet.

But who knows... it is MMA and Shogun is certainly capable of throwing strikes at rather odd angles and in odd combinations and that just might throw off Machida.

when somone like the slippery but powerlful striker machida lands 65% of all his strikes vs. all his opponents (2nd only to a. silva), pretty hard to beat that...

but i'm still routing for the underdog, rua...

a classic battle royale: karate vs. muah thai :thumbsupsmiley:

exactly, hard to beat someone who's hardly taking any damage while causing so much damage to his opponent -- and that is why Machida has been so successful.

By the way guys -- Rogue Magazine's Black Tie Brawl will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Makati tom night. Goodluck to all those competing.
