Boyle's overtime winner TBL@NYI, Gm3: Boyle beats Greiss to win it in OT

R2, Gm3: A shot caroms to Brian Boyle at the side of the net, who fires it into the twine to give the Lightning a 5-4 overtime win

NEW YORK -- Brian Boyle scored 2:48 into overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 5-4 win against the New York Islanders in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Second Round at Barclays Center on Tuesday.

The Lightning, who trailed by one goal three times and tied the game in the final minute, took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series. Game 4 is here Friday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Boyle took the puck into the zone passed back to Ryan Callahan, who passed to Victor Hedman. Hedman's shot went wide, but the rebound came right to Boyle at the side of the net, and he put the puck over outstretched goalie Thomas Greiss.

"I saw [Greiss] was down, and I tried to stay at the blue line because I saw [Callahan] had the puck," Boyle said. "I tried to actually pass it to him but there wasn't much of a lane there. I knew he couldn't one-time it. Fortunate that I think it was [Hedman] who jumped up, and then I just tried to stop, looking for a rebound. It squirted out. It just kind of hit me in the foot. It was kind of a fortunate bounce."

The play was reviewed and it was ruled Boyle did not enter the zone offside.

ST. LOUIS -- Vladimir Tarasenko had a goal and two assists, and Alexander Steen and David Backes each scored twice to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 6-1 victory against the Dallas Stars in Game 3 of the Western Conference Second Round series at Scottrade Center on Tuesday.

Troy Brouwer had a goal and assist, and Brian Elliott made 25 saves for the Blues, who lead the best-of-7 series 2-1. Game 4 is in St. Louis on Thursday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

It was the Blues' first win by more than a goal in the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"This is the game that we wanted to play all the way through," Brouwer said. "Last game (a 4-3 overtime win for St. Louis), in the third period, we had a little bit of a letdown, sitting back on our heels a little bit too much, and we let them back into it. We made it more of a game than we wanted it to be, and tonight I felt we just kept pushing. We kept attacking, getting pucks forward, making sure that we weren't sitting back, weren't giving the chances to try to create offense off the transition.

"As a result, we were able to have some good zone time and keep the momentum in our favor."

PITTSBURGH -- Patric Hornqvist scored 2:34 into overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 win against the Washington Capitals in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Second Round at Consol Energy Center on Thursday.

The Penguins took a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series and can advance to the conference final with a victory in Game 5 at Verizon Center in Washington on Saturday (7:15 p.m. ET; NBC, CBC, TVA Sports).

After Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin managed to keep the play alive along the blue line, Conor Sheary's shot was mishandled by Capitals defenseman Mike Weber, who delivered it right to Hornqvist for a shot between goalie Braden Holtby's legs.

Washington defenseman John Carlson tied the game 2-2 with 3:41 remaining in the second period. Justin Williams stripped Pittsburgh defenseman Derrick Pouliot of the puck along the far wall before finding Carlson alone in the right circle, where he shot past goalie Matt Murray for his fourth goal of the playoffs.

Matt Cullen gave the Penguins a 2-1 lead 3:07 into the period. After the puck was pushed into the Washington zone, Cullen outraced Nicklas Backstrom before shooting through Holtby's five-hole.

NEW YORK -- For the second straight game, the Tampa Bay Lightning took everything the New York Islanders could throw at them, tied the game in the third period and won in overtime.

Jason Garrison scored 1:34 into OT to give the Lightning a 2-1 victory against the Islanders in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Second Round series at Barclays Center on Friday. Garrison beat New York goalie Thomas Greiss with a shot from the right point that went through traffic after the Lightning hemmed the Islanders in their own zone.

"He's got a bomb back there," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "We have to get the puck in a position where he can shoot it. That one was a rocket."

As was the case in Game 3 on Tuesday, the Lightning played from behind for most of the night before pulling even and then totally dominating before scoring a quick goal in overtime.

"You try to create a forecheck, create some pressure, take shots from all over the ice," Garrison said of the Lightning's strategy in OT.

TAMPA -- Ben Bishop made 28 saves, and defenseman Victor Hedman scored two goals to help the Tampa Bay Lightning advance to the Eastern Conference Final for the second straight year with a 4-0 win against the New York Islanders in Game 5 of the second round at Amalie Arena on Sunday.

The Lightning won the best-of-7 series 4-1. They will play the winner of the second-round series between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. Pittsburgh leads the series 3-2 with Game 6 on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN).

It was Bishop's fifth career shutout in the Stanley Cup Playoffs; four of them have come in elimination games, including Game 5 against the Detroit Red Wings in the first round.

"I think we learned from last year," Bishop said. "We had a couple of series where we had chances to close it out at home and we let them slip. So I said last series I really want to take pride in closing teams out, and we've done it two series in a row.

SAN JOSE -- Joe Pavelski and Joel Ward scored first-period goals, Martin Jones had a 20-save shutout, and the San Jose Sharks defeated the Nashville Predators 5-0 in Game 7 to win the Western Conference Second Round series at SAP Center on Thursday.

The Sharks advanced to the Western Conference Final for the fourth time, the first since 2011, and will play the St. Louis Blues in Game 1 on Sunday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

San Jose went 4-0 at home against Nashville in the best-of-7 series and is 8-0 against the Predators in the Stanley Cup Playoffs here.

The shutout was Jones' first in an NHL playoff game. Logan Couture scored early in the second period and had two assists, giving him 11 points (six goals) in the series, a Sharks record.

Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau scored in the third period.

Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne allowed five goals on 26 shots and was replaced by Carter Hutton with 16:06 to play after Marleau made it 5-0.

The Sharks were outshot 32-18 in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Predators in Game 6 on Monday at Bridgestone Arena, losing for the third straight time there. But San Jose outshot Nashville 17-3 in the first period Thursday and built a 2-0 lead on goals by Pavelski and Ward.

Pavelski scored at 8:22 on the power play with Viktor Arvidsson in the penalty box for delay of game. Thornton sent the puck below the goal line to Marleau, who found Pavelski in the low right circle. Pavelski, who had been knocked down by Rinne seconds earlier, scored on a wrist shot into the upper left corner.

The goal was Pavelski's ninth of the playoffs. San Jose is 8-0 in the playoffs when he gets at least one point.

Ward made it 2-0 at 16:51 with a goal against his former team. Ward tracked down the puck in the neutral zone, chipped it past Predators defenseman Roman Josi at the blue line, and then beat Rinne on a breakaway from close range through the five-hole. The goal was Ward's third in a Game 7.

Couture increased San Jose's lead to 3-0 36 seconds into the second period with an unassisted goal after a Shea Weber turnover in Nashville's end.

Thornton scored a power-play goal 32 seconds into the third period with Mattias Ekholm in the penalty box for cross-checking Tommy Wingels at the end of the second. On a 4-on-1, Rinne stopped Couture's shot from the slot, but Thornton knocked in the rebound from close range for San Jose's eighth power-play goal of the series.

Marleau scored at 3:54, taking a cross-ice pass from Couture on a 2-on-1 and beating Rinne from the right circle.

Sharks third-line forward Matt Nieto missed the game with an undisclosed injury. Wingels returned to the lineup after being a healthy scratch in Games 5 and 6.
