F_ck you bro! You've convinced me w/the Joker HC and right now I'm already regretting that I'm not getting it (due to budget constraints). Hay, I think this book would become like The Killing Joke HC or The Dark Night Returns but I hate myself for not getting it. :grr: In fact, I still can't make up my mind while writing this reply and before I send my email to CO. Anyway I won't read it if I get it since it's a HC (btw, how do you take care of your HCs?) and I would get a TPB in the future for reading purposes.

 

Great tips on DVD collecting. I tried to get into it way back but I find it frustrating but when you posted that DVDs normally get lower after 3-4 months I might buy those DVDs again but I'm not into limited editions (I know it would be sweeter, but I already have a lot of addiction ). I'm thinking of either getting those top grossers or award winners first. Would you believe I bought Titanic (Di Caprio & Winslett) because it was the no. 1 movie by that time. Since you opened this topic I'm also thinking of those blue ray discs eventhough I don't have a blue ray player but the DVD has already a clear picture and that suits me fine. Still can't forgive myself for not getting Joker HC, the only consolation is that it's not canon. I'm also thinking of getting Spawn #185 but oh well.

 

Bro, kunin mo na yung Joker HC.. This would be my first Graphic Novel na hindi ko binili na on-sale at na hindi compilation.. And honestly, nakatambak lang mga TPBs ko sa isang tabi ng comicbook collection ko.. But with the Joker HC, I guess I have to know how to really keep this in mint condition.. Kasi maari itong tumaas much like The Killing Joke..

 

With regards to my DVD collection, I think I have a substantial number of movies (hindi lang comic-based) na nasa sala namin.. haha.. At nagagalit na nga si mommy dahil dapat daw nagpagawa kami ng entertainment room kung may balak akong punuin ng discs ang sala.. haha.. I also have bootleg copies of DVDs na hindi available dito (e.g., the Usual Suspects, City Of God, Chasing Amy, Dirty Deeds, and many more).. But I do buy original discs basta medyo binaba na nila presyo nila.. Siguro I have around 100-120 in total na original DVDs.. Karamihan sa mga yan, naka-on-sale ko nabili..

 

Another piece of advise, hindi naman collectible ang DVDs eh, so, you can't expect it to really go up in value.. But we would never know, dahil yung mga vinyl records tumaas ang value basta maganda ang kondisyon di ba? But the tapes? Hindi dba? With the coming of Blu Ray, expect DVDs to really go down and go on sale.. And to be honest with you, may mga pirated na Blu Ray discs.. Nasa Php700-800 daw ang bentahan.. My bootleg copies are mostly DVD9 copies.. Kung saan karamihan ng Special Features gumagana..

 

Be very intelligent in buying DVDs.. Wag ka bibili nung original na mura na low budgeted ang packaging.. Like yung Sin City.. Pangit yun.. Mas maganda pa yung pirated version dahil yung sa akin na bootleg, 2 disc version siya.. May mga bootlegs na minsan mas maganda pa sa tinda sa Astro Vision.. Kaya nga kadalasan kundi special release/limited edition hindi ko kinukuha ng mahal at hinihintay ko na ma-sale like yung Spiderman movies, Daredevil, LOTR, at Ghost Rider..

 

Here is a picture of my Transformers limited edition 2 disc with transforming case.. Yan original yan.. At binili ko yan na hindi naka-sale.. Kaso tama ang desisyon ko, dahil wala ka ng makikitang ganyan sa Astro.. Pati nga yung Transformers na VCD at yung regular DVDs sold out na eh.. The other set is the cartoon series.. Maganda ang packaging ano? But wouldja believe na bootleg lang yan.. Decided to get the bootleg set kasi wala niyan dito at ayaw ko bumili sa States dahil mapapamahal ako dahil sa shipping fees.. Kaso tingnan mo naman, hindi halata na bootleg di ba? haha..

 

.. and one more thing, there is nothing wrong in buying classic films.. Titanic is considered a classic much like Sound of Music is.. I am still waiting na i-sale nila yung 2 disc set ng Titanic.. I actually have the VCD of that.. I am now contemplating of buying the Scarface anniversary edition DVD (ang sa akin kasi VCD lang at bootleg eh - na medyo maganda ang kopya).. Gusto ko ito but medyo may budget constraints ako this month, dahil sobrang dami ko binili and that is the least na nasa wants-list ko.. haha.. :thumbsupsmiley:

I really wanted to buy that Joker HC but I'll leave it to fate. Ayoko ng ipareserve sa CO kasi ang dami ko ng back issues dun eh. Pag meron pa sa January na kopya baka kumuha ako kasi sa January pa ako medyo makakaluwag.

 

I continue to appreciate your DVD tips. Di naman ako umaasa talaga na tumaas yung value ng mga DVD, ang sa akin lang eh parang gusto ko lang magkakopya na hindi pirated (no offense sa mga bumibili ng pirated kasi bumibili din ako nun). Pati pala Blu Ray discs eh may pirated copy na, wala pa atang isang taong nanalo yung Blu Ray dun sa counterpart nya na HD-DVD ata. Ni hindi pa nga bumababa ang presyo ng mga Blu Ray players eh may mga pirated na agad.

 

Di pa naman ako bibili ng DVD pero siguro from time to time eh baka may matype-an ako lalo na at ang dami ko ng nakikitang mga mura. Pag-iisipan ko yung sinabi mo na low budgeted packaging na orig vs bootleg copy na maganda ang packaging pero baka manaig pa din yung orig para sa akin.

 

Ganda ng limited edition ng Transformers mo ah! :thumbsupsmiley: Naalala ko tuloy yung nakita ko sa isang website na compilation ng Aliens. Yun bang ulo ng Alien yung lagayan ng mga DVDs, lumabas ata ito nung pagkatapos nung Aliens vs Predator. Tas yung bootleg mo ng cartoon series eh hindi halata. I'll really give your tips a lookback if I decided to buy those DVDs.

^Bibilhin ko na dapat yung mga reservations ko sa Astro-SM Marikina kagabi but I was informed na hindi pa available yung free na Bean Bag (will get the Iron Man Bean Bag), kaya ayaw pang ipakuha sa akin yung mga naka-reserve stuff ko.. Hintayin ko na daw hanggang next month.. So, I decided to just buy the Hellboy 2 Disc Edition at P299.. :thumbsupsmiley:

 

Bro, if you would be buying DVDs na original, I suggest you don't buy the low budgeted DVDs.. If you want original copies of these, just order them from amazon.com.. Medyo pangit talaga eh.. Sound at picture quality sablay.. Naka-mono lang usually sila at parang kinopya lang sa VCD ang picture.. Or siguro hintayin mo na lang maglabas ng better copy dito locally.. Sayang lang pera, bro..

 

And no offense taken on your take on bootleg DVDs, bro.. Halos siguro ng mga tao bumibili ng pirates eh.. Even I have stopped buying a lot of pirates since bumaba ang prices ng mga original DVDs.. Ang masakit lang kasi, madami ang movies na hindi available locally.. Will give you samples of classics na hindi available locally.. Citizen Kane, The Hidden Fortress, and Seven Samurai.. City of God is a Brazilian film in the mold of Carandiru kaso wla dito sa atin.. Yung Carandiru available locally but its nothing compared to City of God.. Usually I buy copies of original DVDs kahit may bootleg copy na ako at pinamimigay ko yung bootlegs ko sa kamag-anak kapag bumaba na ang presyo ng origs, especially kapag gustong gusto ko yung film..

 

Going back to comics..

 

I am thinking of getting GI Joe - the Origin next year.. I've always wanted to read how the Joes got together.. haha.. Around Feb '09 yata ito, FYI lang..

According to ign.com.. Secret Invasion #8 would be delayed.. Sa December na release nito and so, all titles after SI, like Dark Reign would also be delayed.. Good news for me, at least, hindi sabay-sabay ang dating ng mga comics ko this November.. haha.. Ample time to conserve money for another month of comic book hunting.. haha..

yup, i'm getting the JOKER HC.pero di ko bibilin kagad. ang daming HCs pa sa reserves ko sa CO na need ko muna bilhin. Why dont you do that. Hold mo sa kanila ang JOKER HC for a while until you get the money. That's what I've been doing. I got like 6 HC's there already and I haven't gotten them yet. 4 Muggs and 20 plus comics there in my reserves. dahan-dahan ko lang sila bibilhin. Take your time. That's my advice to you.

 

About HC-care, diba sa CO may plastic cover na sila. you can use that . What i do also is put them in my box with tons of adsorbents. I'm getting my INCREDIBLE HULK # DISC SPECIAL DVD sa CO. I think they'll have it next week. BLU-RAY??!! I dont have that player. Magkanu ba yun? Ain't that more expensive? Stick na lang me s DVD.

I was thinking of reserving it too jut like you posted pero magbabakasali na lang ako pag pumunta ako dun, pag wala na eh so be it. Dami ko na din kasing reservations at inuunti unti ko din yung sa akin.

 

I'm just wondering how to take care of HCs kasi mas malaki sila usually sa TPB and it would be really rare kapag bumili ako ng HC, first time itong Joker HC kung sakali. Blu ray discs run around 1k - 2k base dun sa mga nakikita ko at 40k ata ang player.

 

Titanic was a hit that's why I got it. HAHAHAHA!

 

I'm into TPBs although ok lang kahit di maganda ang condition basta yung interiors ang importante pero sa January pa talaga ako magreregular sa mga TPBs.

I got my copy of CITY OF GOD dito sa Marikina Riverbanks.. May mga kaibigan kasi ako dito na nagbebenta ng pirated DVDs and they usually give me tips kung ano yung mga rare na DVDs na sa pirated lang makukuha locally.. CITY OF GOD has a sequel already, bro.. Its called CITY OF MEN.. Not that good, IMO.. Try watching Carandiru din.. About the prison life in Brazil.. Ito meron sa original sa Astro..

Got my comics at Filbars today, mukhang maganda yung Rage of the Red Lanterns storyline.. It seems like Geoff Johns is masterminding another classic.. Maganda ang simula sana wag sumablay sa huli.. Hindi ko trip Ultimatum dahil parang walang point of collecting ultimate marvel stories sa tingin ko icacancel din nila ang imprint na yan.Cash cow lang ng marvel yan ngayon.Bad ass ang mga pulls niyo dito ah,pati HC's mahal nun ah.Ok sana kung gusto ko yung character,in case of joker not my taste,kung si black adam pa ang gawan nila ng HC story sure buy saken yun.Black Adam is my favorite Dc character along with the Flash and Green Lantern.Ang Tagal pa kasi ng Flash Rebirth sa February pa ata,yun ang problem ko by that time next year nasa australia ako eh parang walang comic bookstores dun tulad ng CO.Kaya ayoko umalis dahil sa mga comic collection hehe.
