Moved by his desire to be in the limelight mixed with pseudocientist theories, gives freedom to his most violent and destructive impulses. sickness Posted November 4, 2006 Share Posted November 4, 2006 Speed Racer:It's been talked about for a long time now that Larry and Andy Wachowski wanted to make a movie based on the cartoon and manga Speed Racer property but word finally comes through that the movie is a definite go! The flick will be based on the classic 1960s series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida that later was retooled for North American audiences, the big-screen film will follow the adventures of the young race car driver Speed in his quest for glory in his thundering gadget-laden vehicle, Mach 5. The movie will feature other characters from the show, including Speed's family and his mysterious archrival, Racer X. Producer Joel Silver announced that they were moving ahead on the project, adding that the brothers are designing the movie's look as they write. The plan is for the Wachowskis to shoot the family-friendly film in summer 2007 for a summer 2008 release. The Eye (remake):The Jessica Alba starer, The Eye, will hit theaters December 21, 2007. The remake of the Thai horror film, which was written by Sebastian Gutierrez and Hillary Seitz, will be helmed by David Moreau and Xavier Palud. A blind girl gets a cornea transplant so that she would be able to see again. However, she got more than what she bargained for when she realized she could even see ghosts. And some of these ghosts are down right unfriendly. So she embarks on a journey to find the origins of her cornea and to reveal the history of the previous dead owner. One Missed Call (remake):In this remake of the Japanese horror flick, Margaret Cho joins Ed Burns as another member of the police department. Cho's character is a cynical policewoman who doesn't believe that the friends of a local college student (played by Shannyn Sossamon) are getting voice mails from their future selves in the process of dying, leaving them a couple of days to save themselves from their fate. I Am Legend:Will Smith stars in the film, which is about a deadly plague that turns everyone in the world into vampires. Yam Laranas, who co-wrote and directed "Sigaw," will direct the movie, being written by Eric Bernt. In the original a boy moves into an apartment and finds out it's haunted by the spirits of a tormented family. Read on for the official news. The story revolves around a young ex-con who moves into an old apartment building, only to learn his neighbor is an abusive police officer who savagely beats his wife and daughter. When the ex-con tries to intervene, he becomes trapped in a curse. Vertigo plans to move quickly with the film, eyeing a March 19 start date. Vertigo's Roy Lee and Doug Davison will produce with Shintaro Shimosawa and Tyler Mitchell. The rights were acquired from Regal Films of the Philippines. The film is being fully financed by venture capitalist Robert Hoff through his new company RightOff Entertainment. Hoff, who fully finances the U.S. Olympic ski team, has been a general partner at Crosspoint Venture Partners since 1983, and was honored this year by the Los Angeles Venture Assn. with a Lifetime Achievement award. He serves as exec producer. Bernt, repped by Endeavor, recently wrote "The Hitcher" remake for Rogue and Platinum Dunes. He also will serve as an exec producer. Laranas is repped by ICM. Vertigo, behind the remake franchises of "The Ring" and "The Grudge" film series, is basking in the glow of the success of Martin Scorsese's "The Departed." The company is in production on "The Strangers" for Universal, "Sassy Girl" for Gold Circle and "Addicted" for the Yari Film Group.
