It had a bad strategy and poorly targeted marketing.

Ps Vita had expensive memory cards, lacked 1st party game support, and was competing with mobile phones. It didn't provide a compelling portable experience to most consumers, then you had the good PSVita games being ported to home consoles.

3DS had the better games that couldn't be found anywhere else and targeted its audience well and didn't have much in the way of expensive accessories.

Also, the Concord fiasco was completely self-inflicted.

Overwatch released in 2016, Apex Legends released in 2019, Valorant released in 2020

Concord started development in around 2016 and was released in 2024. 8 years to pump the brakes and evaluate the landscape of hero shooters.

Then they shut down Concord 13 DAYS after launch.

Concord also had deceptive reveal trailers that gave people the impression of a single player space adventure.

Sony had full control, but Firewalk studios paid the price despite doing their best to develop a game according to Sony's orders.
