  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
  • Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

Additional requirements to use certain features:

  • To use touch, you need a tablet or a monitor that supports multitouch (more info)
  • To access the Windows Store and to download and run apps, you need an active Internet connection and a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768
  • To snap apps, you need a screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768
  • Internet access (ISP fees might apply)
  • Secure boot requires firmware that supports UEFI v2.3.1 Errata B and has the Microsoft Windows Certification Authority in the UEFI signature database
  • Some games and programs might require a graphics card compatible with DirectX 10 or higher for optimal performance
  • Microsoft account required for some features

  • Windows Media Center license sold separately (more info)
  • BitLocker To Go requires a USB flash drive (Windows 8 Pro only)
  • BitLocker requires either Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 or a USB flash drive (Windows 8 Pro only)

o check if your PC meets these requirements, you can run the Windows Upgrade Assistant

Looks better than the previous Window$ version. But how much?

Watching DVD requires a separate playback software? Lame! C'mon we're already on the 20th century and no native/default DVD player on it yet!

It looks better though it might need getting used to since you don't get to see the usual windows start button - based on the microsoft website win 8 pro download is around $39.99 -

For the DVD apps - you need to download it from the Microsoft Store - I am not sure if there are free dvd player apps available.

its better to stick with windows 7 because it is stable and less bugs rather than windows 8..

also if you check the market windows 7 is much expensive than windows 8... :)

surprisingly - yeah windows 8 is cheaper. Just like previous OS version releases - compatibility issues (hardware or software related) are common during the initial release. But it looks promising. Apps run faster if you run the apps from the UI instead of running it from usual windows desktop. CPU usage is also lower in the UI than in the windows desktop.

I just updated and have been using for about 2 days already. Compared to W7, you might say that there is a sligh learning curve to be considered but I'm not having too much trouble. My laptop works better and I really appreciate the little details that they put which makes working/browsing faster and enjoyable.

I know and have read a lot of negative articles on Win8 which was also the reason why I didn't upgrade right away but when I did, it was painless and easy. My files were all secure and luckily, Samsung has updates for all its laptop drivers so when I upgraded, all I needed to do was run the software updater and I was good to go in 45 minutes. It works for me so I won't complain.

been using it for 2 mos already since they released beta and all I can say is that the Tiles are useless.

never used it and never will.

it even aint streamlined or pretty, diba?

i would switch to the "windows 7" desktop all the time and i don't think an ordinary user be able to memorize all the keyboard shortcuts to make navigation easier.

but its "lightweight" just like windows 7 but gawd they didnt have to complicate it.
