travelling with jailbroken/rooted tablets and pirated-OS computer

Is it risky to travel to US while carrying a laptop with a pirated OS and a rooted (aka jailbroken) android tablet?

 

It's my first time travelling to the US and i'm staying there for 6 months. i'm contemplating on unrooting my tablet and formatting my lappy, fearing inspection from US airport customs.

 

any experience with airport security/customs you guys like to share?

You don't have to worry because airport customs do not turn on your tablet or computer unless you want to volunteer that your carrying jailbreak OS.

as far as i know, jailbroken phones are not illegal in USA.

depends on what state you would be disembarking.

if you disembark at LA, SanFO or in JFK, di na tinitignan.

but when i travelled two years ago and disembarked at Minneapolis, they asked me to open my laptop. I was on Ubuntu so no problem.

 

jailbroken or rooted phones are different cases. rooting is just opening the phone so that you would have root or sysadmin priviledge, hindi sya pirated. you are still using the original OEM software that your phone was shipped with. nilawakan mo lang yung priviledge mo.

they will ask you to open/get it to work to prove that the gadget/system is not a dummy for something else, not to check on which operating system and whether it is legit or not.
