thegame08
Ang daming room dito sa sports thread about basketball teams, simulan mo sa Ginebra, SMB, Air21, etc. at meron ding room the PBA dito pero sa football isa lang so I guess it;s high time that we create a room for these guys. blow_gobi
I'm planning to watch the game on July 3 but I was surprised they're selling the tickets at P3,000 ringside P2,000 box, tapos P300/P200 grandstand/general admission. Sana huwag masyadong papalit palit para merong stability yung line-up. BTW, Jason de Jong is coming back pala but was relegated to the U-23 line-up, and will play only for the team for the Southeast Asian games, not the World Cup qualifying team. Quote Link to comment
carlogambino
buti nagkaroon na rin ng sariling room ang football ... to be precise .. azkals philippines football ! kudos !! malakas ata yung seniors lineup especially pag tuloy sina lucena, schrock, cagara, and guirado. no choice but to get the european pinoys for the short term as they have better training and skills. in the future dapat ma train na rin local players starting sa grass roots. but observe around you, wala pa rin kumilos itigil na yang utak basketball. internationally, dapat mag admit na there's a glass ceiling na di kayang sirain sa basketball. hard to say, but hanggang dyan na lang yan. in football, there's a lot of room to grow especially now when you're starting sa bottom. kaya support the azkals !! pati si micheal weiss ehh kinda irritated na sa dami ng distractions and endorsements of some of the players. buti nagkaroon na rin ng sariling room ang football ... to be precise .. azkals philippines football ! kudos !! malakas ata yung seniors lineup especially pag tuloy sina lucena, schrock, cagara, and guirado. no choice but to get the european pinoys for the short term as they have better training and skills. in the future dapat ma train na rin local players starting sa grass roots. but observe around you, wala pa rin kumilos itigil na yang utak basketball. internationally, dapat mag admit na there's a glass ceiling na di kayang sirain sa basketball. hard to say, but hanggang dyan na lang yan. in football, there's a lot of room to grow especially now when you're starting sa bottom. kaya support the azkals !! pati si micheal weiss ehh kinda irritated na sa dami ng distractions and endorsements of some of the players. blow_gobi
In fairness naman sa basketball, we're the world's #75 team while in football we're only #153. We have the best basketball team in the ASEAN and probably among the Top 20 within Asia; our football standing in ASEAN is still question mark today (although it could start to improve), and we're only #32 in Asia (I think). Kaya lang, football has probably a better potential for PHL as an international sport: (1) there's room for improvement for the Azkals and I'm sure with sustained support the Azkals will continue to do so; (2) it is the world's most popular team sport, and its a joy to watch the game if the players are skillful and the venue/football field is of good quality, kahit pipitsugin lang na liga like the AFC Challenge Cup, etc. (3) haven't you noticed that there's a bumper crop of talented Fil-Foreigners playing in football clubs in Europe and in America, while there's practically no Fil-Foreigner playing in high-profile US/European basketball leagues (buti pa China and Iran, may NBA players na)? This is a revelation as to where our international competitive strength lies. Edited May 25, 2011 by blow_gobi Quote Link to comment

This is a revelation as to where our international competitive strength lies. dude we are at #156 in football... pero consider naman there are more than 200 countries that are a member of FIFA. so our ranking is compared against 200 plus countries that are 100 times more fanatical than us. we still have a long way to go in terms of moving up the rankings ladder... we need to win more matches, play more friendlies and win them, train, start our own domestic league to improve the local boys. mas ok kung maging successful tayo sa world cup qualifiers coming up. mataas ang ranking points na makukuha dyan so dapat win the 2 games vs sri lanka, and pray for a fair result againt kuwait dahil mabigat na kalaban yan. basketball naman #56 nga tayo sa buong mundo, pero out of 75 countries lang. so there is a huge difference. matagal na din tayong nagbabasketball at di pa rin tayo nakaabot ng olympics at FIBA world. kakahiya ata yan considering that patay na patay tayo sa basketball and all we gotta show for it is #56 in the rankings, zero NBA player to represent us, and constant whooping in international qualifiers. thegame08
I read this article around circa 1987, the article is about "The Dawn" the legendary Pinoy band, vocalist Jet Pangan said in the particular article na ang "rock parang football sikat sa buong mundo pero pagdating sa Pinas wala", well, rock music has taken off since that time sa dami ng magagaling na rock bands na sumikat but it seems that na ngayon pa lang sumisikta sumisikat or rather naa-appreciate ng mga sports fans ang football sa Pinas, though meron na talagang mga Pinoys na mahilig o avid fans ng larong ito.
