Barangay Ginebra Kings

i beg to differ, yancy is a complete package he has post moves and an outside shot, i would rather keep him and instead trade enrico villanueva who is much shorter and no jumper and is always being eaten alive in the paint, it seems like that they will go for the run and gun system but whenever they are battling a team with a legitimate center they are being killed in the paint

You might be referring to Raniedel, not Yancy, based on your description.

Post moves? Havven't seen it in his long stay with BGK.

Outside shot? Mick Penissi shoots better than him.

Dude, your description for a De Ocampo is perfect. For Ranidel.

Anywho, Ginebra was always known for a run and gun offense anyway. The only time that BGK had a legit center was when Aquino was with them and when Menk was healthy. Other than that, BGK is always undersized in the middle.

Besides, with acquiring Maierhoffer and Maliksi, they are trying to revert to the "Never say die" BGK of old.

yes because he was not given a lot of minutes, he would be inserted because they need height inside not because of his shooting or post moves, mick shoots better but still height is might, unlike rico who is under sized, i've been following the de ocampo brothers since their college days and ranidel is much smaller, and he developed his shot because he is poor inside

Complete package? 'Yung kapatid n'ya siguro 'yun ang complete package sir whereas yancy can't even get a rebound off the likes of Ali Peek or maybe even against a Jondan Salvador (mga undersized players who played the center and power forward position pero magagaling pumuwesto para kumuha ng rebound), saka kung complete package s'ya 'di s'ya naging journeyman sa PBA.

kaya nga po na-developed ang outside shooting ni ranidel because talk n text has a lot of players who does the dirty work inside harvey carey, kelly williams, ali peek, rich alvarez, gilbert lao and now add japeth aguilar, even kelly has developed his jumpers because they have the luxury of big men

Nuon pang nasa St. Francis of Assissi College si Yancy, outside spotter na yan (although not a great accurate scorer).

3:15 p.m. — Shopinas.com vs Alaska

5:30 p.m. — B-Meg vs Ginebra

MANILA, Philippines — B-Meg and Barangay Ginebra clash Sunday in a game that may show which team benefited more from the recent trade that involved two of their major players.

B-Meg obtained 6-9 center Yancy de Ocampo from Ginebra which in turn got young forward Rico Maierhofer from B-Meg plus Allein Maliksi from Red Bull.

The two teams collide at 5:30 p.m. at the resumption of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum and the question foremost in the minds of observers is which team got it right?

B-Meg mentor Tim Cone has no doubt that De Ocampo will improve his team’s ‘‘triangle offense’’ system.

“Yancy is a prototypical triangle center and we feel, in time, that he’ll be successful with us,” said Cone, whose team is coming off a 92-89 double overtime win against his former team Alaska that improved their record at 5-4 last Sunday.

Cone said that they can utilize de Ocampo’s height advantage in running the ‘‘triangle’’ instead of Maierhofer, who is struggling to find the minutes since he is playing behind veterans Kerby Raymundo, Marc Pingris and Joe Devance at the power forward spot, and with James Yap in the small forward position.

“The trade of Rico for Yancy was about finding a place where Rico could receive substantial playing time and have an opportunity to grow as a player. No doubt, Rico was stuck behind the three position, and four spot, which limited his playing time,” added Cone.

In short, Maierhoffer has practically no place in Cone’s triangle.

With de Ocampo, Cone is confident he now has enough weapons to face Ginebra, which is fresh from a 92-79 triumph that kept newcomer Shopinas.com winless in 10 outings.

“Ginebra is always the toughest opponent. Controlling their guards is always a huge challenge, and defensively, they’re always hard to beat,” said Cone who is also concerned with the huge crowd behind Ginebra.

“We’ll have to keep our poise and see if we can keep the Ginebra crowd out of the game,” he said.

On the other hand, the addition of Maierhofer, the league’s Rookie of the Year two seasons back, and the 6-foot-4 Maliksi, the first MVP of the PBA D-League and the No. 8 overall pick by Barako Bull in the previous Rookie Draft, will bring quickness and versatility to Ginebra.

Coach Siot Tanquingcen said that the ability of the two to play different positions is good for the Kings.

“With Rico, we can use him either at the three or four spots, while Allein can play two or three, and that makes our team more versatile,” said Tanquingcen. “Plus, being young the two likes to run and push the ball on offense. They are also good defenders.”

“But just like in some trades, chemistry will be the key factor. So we’ll see. It will be a tough test facing B-Meg,” he added.

Clashing in the first game at 3:15 p.m. are Alaska and Shopinas.com, with the Aces hoping to win back-to-back games following a 121-111 victory over the Powerade Tigers Friday night.

The league rescheduled Sunday’s games an hour earlier from its original time of 4:15 p.m. to give way to the TV coverage of AKTV for the gold medal game of the Sinag Pilipinas versus Thailand in the Southeast Asian Games at 7 p.m. in Indonesia.

So sinong De Ocampo ba ang tinutukoy mo??? Ako naguguluhan na eh. Hehe.

I respect your opinion, pajac. It just so happens na hindi yun yung nangyayari sa BGK ngayon.

Wala pa yata sina Kelly Williams, Rich Alvarez at Gilbert Lao noong time na nasa tnt pa si Yancy, ang alam kong inabot n'ya doon ay maybe sina Asi at Carrey but anyways, nasa fedex/air21 pa si yancy mahilig na talaga tumira sa labas 'yan unlike his brother who can post, drive and shoot from the outside.

kaya si Marlou hindi nakatikim ng injury maliban sa pulikat

Oo nga ano hehe..

as much as i respect your opinion sir, medyo nalito ako sa sinabi mo.. sabi mo nung college eh poor inside presence si ranidel kaya he developed his outside shooting... then sa next comment mo, ranidel developed his outside shooting because TNT has a lot of players who does the work inside. saan po ba talaga na-developed?

about sa 2nd quote, i'm rooting for air 21 since the arwind-ranidel-david era.. and as far as i know may outside shooting na siya noon kaya hindi nadeveloped yun nung nasa TNT siya. and since the college, pbl, and even noong 1st years ni yancy sa pba eh sa labas na siya madalas tumira, maging perimeter o 3 pts man..

but then, baka may iba kang nakikita na hindi namin nakikita...

TALO!!! 88-76. Glaring lack of height talaga. Ang lalaki ng BMeg. naglaro sandali lang si Rico M. parang tulala pa sa rotation and hindi naglaro si Mat.

Obviously the coaching staff is trying to make him feel the flow of the game kagabi, he showed some semblance of the old Rico M. though kitang kita pa na 'di pa s'ya adjusted sa style ng Ginebra. Also, they should used him on the 3 spot dahil obvious na hirap s'ya dumepensa sa power forward though magaling sa help defense si Rico M. Also, Billy Mamaril showed fine form kagabi kahit matagal 'di nakalaro..
