photographer
Tim Cone confirms SMC plan to name 'chemistry guy' Jeff Cariaso as Ginebra coachFrom: Richard DyApril 26, 2014, 08:47 pm[/url]http://contents.spin.ph/image/jeffreycariasotimconedante.jpgSan Mig coach Tim Cone says assistant Jeff Cariaso has been the "chemistry guy" of the multi-titled Mixers. Dante PeraltaSAN Mig coach Tim Cone feels his long partnership with assistant coach Jeffrey Cariaso is at an end. The multi-titled PBA coach has confirmed a story first run by Spin.ph that his former prized player-turned-chief assistant is being considered to take over San Mig's sister ballclub Barangay Ginebra. “I don’t know if the (San Miguel) organization has come out with a statement, but I think it’s (Cariaso’s move to Ginebra) gonna happen,” Cone said shortly after San Mig ended Alaska’s titlle-retention bid on Saturday by winning their rubber match, 79-65, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. "But I’m not gonna conform it because there are still details to work out," he added. According to Spin.ph sources, Cariaso wants to bring in a number of associates to be part of his staff in the event he takes over the Ginebra job from Ato Agustin. Cone said he is happy for Cariaso, a key player for the American mentor during Alaska’s glory years in the 1990s who is now being considered to take over the league's most popular ballclub. “I’m extremely happy for Jeff, if that’s the case. I mean, this is what you do as head coaches. You try to groom your guy to be head coaches and every time it happens, it’s a great reflection on what you do,” said the 16-time PBA champion coach. Nonetheless, the 56-year-old Cone said if ever Cariaso moves to the Ginebra camp, he will be sad to lose someone who has served as the Mixers’ “chemistry” guy. “He’s our chemistry bringer. Jeff is a chemistry guy because he builds our chemistry, so when we lose him, that’s gonna be a void for sure,” he added. Cariaso, 41, joined Cone along with former Alaska teammate Johnny Abarrientos to serve as two of San Mig/B-Meg assistant coaches before the start of the 2012 season. The former Rookie of the Year has since won three PBA championships with Cone at San Mig. Quote Link to comment
Agent_mulder
Sana lang Jeffrey Cariaso would be more like Chot Reyes and Ryan Gregorio (2 former understudy of Cone) pag naging coach s'ya ng Ginebra, pero s'yempre mas gusto ko si Pido Jarencio or Jaworski to coach Ginebra Quote Link to comment
Kazekage.Gaara
IMHO, the discussions in this forum and all other fan groups regarding Ginebra best describes what is happening to the team: CONFUSING, CHAOTIC. I mean, wala akong makitang patutunguhang direction ng Ginebra ngayon. Fans na lang ata ang may never-say-die spirit. Sa players, mabibilang mo na lang. Yung iba, nasa ibang team na. Dahil ba nakatikim silang magnumber 1 nung All Filipino kaya naging ganyan? Nasobrahan sa pakiramdam na nasa taas? As was said, superstar mentality? For me, I'll end up adjusting my expectations of Ginebra until such time that I see them either (1) Go to the Finals and be up 3-1 in any conference series or (2) Start a slow rebuilding process out of which MC47 and JJ13 end hanging up their respective jerseys. I don't have too high of an expectation for them at the time being. Cushions the heartbreak everytime I see them fail. As long as you have INCOMPETENT FOOLS sitting on the bench (Isang PA system na taga announce ng plays ng isang former MVP na hindi naman ata nagdidirect ng play in English, Gallent? ano nga pala silbi nya sa bench ng Ginebra??? Robert Non - why the hell is he on the bench rather than Caidic who is an assistant coach??? Coach Al, well, at least he has passion... but no longer he is a coach. He's the team manager now.), I'm sorry to say but my hopes on Ginebra are at an understandably minimal level right now. Suporta na lang ang meron ako sa Ginebra sa ngayon. darksoulriver
Reports has it that aside from Jeffrey Cariaso Ginebra is flying in a new athletic trainer by the name of Kirk in its coaching staff. this is good... add kn rin ng conditioning coach para hindi lambot -lambot sa depensa. pagkatapos magrevamp ng coach... itrade ang dapat itrade.. i dont think mapupuno ng MVP teams ang MOA Arena o Araneta palagi... numina
i agree with the change in coaches and if its true, with the athletic/conditioning coach.... but i do not know if jeff will be up to the task...it took trillo yata 2 years before his breakthrough season but hindi nya na yata naulit yun... hanggang semis na lang ulit yata ang alaska.... ryan gregorio has the same thing... after he inherited a power house team in purefoods, di na sya nakaulit after he left for mearlaco... chot reyes is more of an exception than a norm... i would rather go for experienced coaches instead... jawo, uichico, ronquillo and the likes... enhance the team chemistry, plays, practice norms, defense and system.... win 1, 2, 3 championship together maybe with jeff as assistant... then promote him later on.... i just do not know if we (fans) will have the patience to wait for cariaso to have a break out season.... btw, until now, i do not understand why uichico and tanquincen were removed as coaches when they were responsible for 2 championships each ... anyway, at the end of the day, gsm management pa rin yan..... 1 Quote Link to comment
Kazekage.Gaara
Eto na yung higanteng rigodon. A MASSIVE revamp of the Barangay Ginebra coaching staff is set to unfold over the next few days. According to sources, the imminent arrival of new coach Jeffrey Cariaso will set off a shake-up of the Ginebra coaching staff beginning with the arrival of Olsen Racela, who is set to join his fellow San Mig assistant on the bench of the PBA's most popular team. Racela, who briefly coached Petron/San Miguel before moving to serve as a deputy of Tim Cone at San Mig, has been given the green light to assist Cariaso when Ginebra makes the transition from a run-and-gun system to a triangle offense, the source added. The changes should be in place when Ginebra returns to practice for the season-ending Governors Cup on Monday, just over a week after a disappointing quarterfinal exit from the Commissioner's Cup. A source said Cariaso, a former Rookie of the Year and many-time All-Star, tried to bring along both Racela and Johnny Abarrientos from San Mig to Ginebra, but only the former got the nod. “Mukhang approve na yung paglipat ni Olsen. Inaayos na lang. Dapat si Johnny A din kasama, kaso hindi na pumayag si Tim (Cone),” said the source. In turn, Cone, a source said, is trying to lure Joel Banal to fill the gap to be left by Cariaso and Racela. “Gusto kasi ni Jeff mga kakilala niya ang makakasama. Hindi naman sa ayaw niya yung mga andun ngayon, pero syempre, kailangan niyo yung makakatulong sa kanya,” said the source. There is still no official word on the movement of the current members of the Ginebra coaching staff, but a source bared that at this point it is only Jorge Gallent who is certain of staying on. Another information bared that former Barako Bull coach Bong Ramos is also on the radar of Ginebra. Meanwhile, current head Ginebra head coach Ato Agustin is likely to return to San Miguel Beer, the same team he led to the championship of the 2011 Governors’ Cup which is set to kick off on May 24 at the latest, assuming the best-of-seven Commissioner’s Cup finals goes the distance. Art Dela Cruz will most likely move to Barako Bull to join former Ginebra coach Siot Tanquincen, who will assume the role of head coach of the Energy starting next conference. On the other hand, current team manager Alfrancis Chua is set to be moved up to team governor in place of Robert Non, who will take over San Miguel's place in the board vacated by the late Ely Capacio. The fate of Juno Sauler, Allan Caidic and Freddie Abuda remains in the balance, but sources say the three are at the moment focusing on the Dela Salle Green Archers, who are backed by San Miguel Corp. big boss Danding Cojuangco. “Sa Lunes pa talaga yan ma-a-announce. Yung finality niyan sa Lunes na ilalabas,” said the source. Quote Link to comment
