Barangay Ginebra Kings

Buti pa San Miguel papalitan kaagad yung import nila. Action kaagad.

Very well said kaibigan. Forrester, Monfort, Ababou, Faundo all riding the bench.

GINEBRA rookie James Forrester just needs to be patient and more consistent during team practice to get the breaks he's long been waiting for.

The piece of advice came from assistant coach Juno Sauler, who has been tasked by team management to take a more active role in handling the team in the ongoing PBA Commissioner's Cup.

"He just needs to be more consistent, like everyone else. Consistent daily," said Sauler.

They Said It!

"(Forrester) in a lineup where the spot he plays is very loaded."
Ginebra assistant coach Juno Sauler

But Sauler was quick to clarify it doesn't mean the rookie guard from Arellano University is inconsistent, pointing out that he faced stiff competition in his position at Ginebra.

"Let's face it. Yung mga kalaban niya sa puwesto very consistent din sa practice. He's in a lineup where the spot he plays is very loaded," said the soft-spoken Ginebra deputy coach.

Two games into the mid-season conference, there's still no Forrester sighting yet on the floor for the struggling Kings, although the rookie isn't complaining - at least not publicly.

In an earlier interview, Forrester told Spin.ph that he's more than willing to wait for his big break and earn his minutes with Ginebra than be traded to another team.

The statement naturally endeared him more to the throng of Barangay Ginebra fans, most of whom have now taken to social networking sites to air their petition for more playing time for Forrester.

Here's one of them:

Although he cannot promise more minutes for the rookie, Sauler assured that the coaching staff is carefully weighing all options, with the welfare of the team in mind.

"Ang coaching staff kasi decides on whatever we think is good for the team," he stressed.

"I am sure he (Forrester) can contribute, just like how the others are contributing also. Pero siyempre, all our judgments will be what is most beneficial to them."

"I am not saying that James cannot play. He is a very good player. That's why nga di ba yung contract niya is long-term, so we're making sure that we continue to develop James. So when the proper time comes, he'll be ready."

Asked if Forrester has what it takes to be a vital piece of the Ginebra rotation one day, Sauler answered in the affirmative.

"Yeah, meron. Meron," said Sauler.

But at the same time, Sauler said finding time for Forrester isn'y easy considering the amount of talent available for Ginebra in the 2 and 3 spots, and the job only gets harder, he said, with import Leon Rodgers around.

"Syempre, kaposisyon ni James ang import namin. So it's a choice between the import and James Forrester," said Sauler, who is also head coach of De La Salle in the UAAP.

"Plus do you want Chris Ellis sitting down and James Forrester playing, or Mark Caguioa sitting on the bench or James Forrester playing?" he asked.

But Sauler said he admires how Forrester has shown diligence and determination in practice despite the fact he's aware how the kid is frustrated with his lack of playing time with the team.

"He has a very nice attitude," said the Ginebra first assistant coach.

Sauler also made it clear trading Forrester has not crossed Ginebra's mind.

"We were not thinking about that. It never entered our heads. He is still part of the team's future," he said. "Of course, there is nothing certain in this world. What we say now might not be the same thing tomorrow."

Juno's explanation is pointless. What does urbiztondo does or brings to ginebra? Since the time he arrives i cant remember anu game that he explodes. Why does he has minutes compare to JF. Only Ellis is consistent. Its more than two decades that I am a Ginebra die hard. I never been this excited with their players since the time of Michael Hackett and Billy Ray Bates. But this is only the time that Ive been this dissapointed. Dati kahit 30 ang lamang i still watch. Ngaun two games palang ayoko na manood. Kahit si Lebron pa siguro import wala parin as long as anjan si Ato......

while he may be a champion coach with la salle, juno's explanation on why forrester doesn't have playing time is unacceptable and just doesn't make sense. assuming for the sake of argument that forrester's position is already loaded, will the coaching staff still insist on playing a caguioa kahit na nagkakalat na?...or insist on playing urbiztondo na parating nagkakalat?...or jj kahit na halatang mabagal na? i don't think urbiztondo is a better player than the 4th pick. doesn't it make more sense to try out someone like forrester for a change. even japeth and baracael's playing time have been cut short because of poor rotation. ang hirap sa coaching staff ng ginebra napakabopol na bulag at bingi pa. haaay...with this kind of effort na pinapakita ng ginebra ngayon, baka tuluyan nang langawin ang mga laro nila. add to this is their overrated import. natatandaan ko tuloy yung mga sinabi ni jawo during the half time of game 6 against san mig. ibigay lahat dahil sa mga fans.

No wonder magulo ang rotation...no wonder magulo ang laro....no wonder nde alam gagawin ngnmga players...

I agree with your assessment. The question is: Is the decision not play Forrester coming from up high?

your guess is as good as mine sir. is this another one of those politics in basketball?

di lang lumakas, english pa    +1...the reason why ginebra got a small import is for the twin towers not to be compromised. unfortunately, japeth's playing minutes is dwindling at malapit-lapit nang mawalan ng kumpiyansa. di ko ba alam kung anong klaseng rotation ang gustong palabasin nitong si ato...wtf @!#*

unlike their other sister team---SANMIG, coach Tim is a brilliant strategist...no wonder if SANMIG shall take home another championship trophy, compare to their sibling team with deep bench, San Miguel Beermen and Brgy. Ginebra they have a superstar line-up but didn't have the chemistry to win..puro kasi paistaran ang mga coach at plalo na sa players...

in fairness, mas maraming english si coach juno pag nagbigay ng instructions at pati defensive assignment kina-klaro nya sa mga players towards the end of their time-out.

The Gin Kings players have upgraded talentwise and physique wise, alright. But the dedication and genuine 'neve-say-die' spirit to the actual game has diminished, big time.

The Gin Kings squad of today is undeniably deeper and more talented than the Jaworski-led Ginebra. The tall and scrappy Marlou Aquino had been upgraded to an athletic Japeth Aguilar. Pido Jarencio's three-point specialty is now Mac Baracael and MVP Marc Caguiao. Whatever they got from EJ Fiehl and the father, Romy Mamaril; they got more from Greg and the son, Billy, respectively. They have the burly Noli Locsin then, but JR Reyes is taller and robust as well. Vince Hizon was a looker and an exciting player, but Airforce Ellis is a better ('though Hizon was more handsome) version. They got Mr. Adrenaline, Jayvee Gayoso, but Jayjay and LA ('though Jayvee was more handsome as well)- have both adrenaline and better ball handling.

true enough players have been greatly upgraded...sad to say the coaching staff has immensely deteriorated. if my memory serves me right, during the time of the big j, iisa lang ang assistant niya...si rhino salazar lang. but one can hear jawo's conviction in shouting out instructions...no one dared question his plays. iisa lang ang boses na naririnig..."this is you vince...this is you jayvee...this is you marlou" but every play was executed well. distrito for the win!!!
