cheeselogger
so no need to drop him, there is still something probably in that kid thats why the bucs coveted him... Ohlendorf is also a great arm the Pittsburgh got in this deal. he's pretty much more of a known commodity than the young OF... Quote Link to comment
gift_of_game
actually its not a New York thing alone, it's the Steinbrenner thingy. just a couple or three more DL stints and hughes didnt do better than pavano in the health department.. i dont know if there's even a physical injury last year, an "ego injury" hurts more at this young stage of his career.. still puzzled why NYY wasnt able to cough up kennedy in the johan race.. and im interested in F-Mart. :headsetsmiley: what's on the table master B? was just referring to the need for NY prospects in general to live up to unrealistic expectations bro.FMart, for instance, could've taken his sweet time and allowed to grow into his body as he learned the nuances of the game better.instead, they bum-rushed him up the ladder and he's had a letdown season so far. kingsville
thanks master b and master gog..shortbus... ayt, I'll get as many as 100 minor-leaguers! :upside: Maybe NYY changed the philosophy on their farm system. BOS is actually doing a decent job on theirs. 'Cause they think the Red Sox are getting younger and better, so the Yanks followed suit. Thus, the names of Buchholz, Papelbon, Kennedy & Joba came. That's the only thing I can say regarding that issue. gift_of_game
reportedly, that's one of the first things Epstein said when he came aboard---that they'll put up a prospect factory in place. Quote Link to comment

I actually am believing in what Cashman and Girardi agreed upon at the start of the season that eventhough the whole Yankee Universe would be expecting a lot from the trio, they would let them take their time. after all, they do still have the "veterans" that they have paid a lot of money. time to start getting back their investments... and pardon my ignorance, who's F-Mart? gift_of_game
yeah, that's the catch---they aren't supposed to have a "rebuilding year" given who they are and what resources are available to them. they have got to appear like they're making a run even if there's a fairly decent chance for them to fall short of a few steps. at any rate, it was good that they didn't bite the bullet for Johan---it means that they do want to take to farming a bit more seriously. F-Mart is Fernando Martinez, the Mets' top prospect. dude reportedly has all the tools to be an all-star caliber outfielder in the near future but for now, he could use a little more seasoning. and oh, prior to the trade, he was the cross-town equivalent of Tabata.
