that was fast!

so travel to lake tahoe is feasible. great!

i've also searched about lakes big bear and arrowhead and found out that they are actually in california. and i've read somewhere that snow has fallen in every month except july and august (or was it june and july?) in lake big bear; making this very interesting for me to look into. problem is though, i just don't know if i could sqeeze a trip here while in so cal bec. my time here is so tight. on the other hand, i purposely added a day for a road trip while in s.f. making a trip to tahoe more feasible.

funny thing is my itenerary for the bay area matches what you've just described. am planning to drive by the coast into the city (good advice on what to see here, will look into them) and take the faster I-5 on the way back to l.a. in between, it's sight-seeing for a day, a road trip the next, and shopping (i'm travelling with my wife afterall you know) after.

thanks again for your replies.

also if you go to Disney and California Adventure, don't forget to ride "Soaring over California"!!! :) you'll feel like you've seen the whole of California talaga!

i went on that ride last week when i took my kids to the theme park rounds in cali for their spring break

i really didnt' know what type of a ride it was...

i liked it despite my fear of heights...i just had to remember that it was all virtual and i wasn't really "soaring"

i would have liked to be on the first tier or the top...we were on the 3rd row (bottom)

kung hindi lang mahaba yung line, i would've gone back in and went on the top row

*they do have a fastpass for this ride...saves you the long wait*

Places to go to in San Francisco.

- Fisherman's Warf

- GG bridge view from battery spencer and from the park near the bridge itself

- Just driving around the city is a good thing SF architecture is very interesting

- Twin Peaks

- Cable Car ride

- Chocolate tour in SF. Home of See's (malapit sa bahay and factory nito), ghirardelli, scharffenberger (for me the best of them all), and some other smaller establishments.

- If you're in sf on a Saturday or thursday go to the ferry building farmer's market

Outside SF pero medyo malapit na rin

- six flags discovery kingdom in vallejo

- wine tasting in Napa Valley

@Kansky I was in Tahoe 2 weeks ago and I was still able to catch snow. :)

Feasible ang plan mo. I left 3 am and drove to Reno. By 7:30 nasa tahoe na ako. On the way back from Reno, I left 1 PM was home by 6 with stop overs yun ha.

- Some really good restos in Sonoma and Napa area (if you can get reservations to French Laundry the tasting is worth the price)

Cool! :thumbsupsmiley:

Pero, nagdadalawang isip ako bec. of two reasons: 1) I am presently in L.A. and have done some amount of driving (mainly to and from Las Vegas) much to the detriment of my kids.

Since I will be driving from L.A. to S.F., I don't think the kids will cherish the idea of driving another 4 or so hrs. to Tahoe. 2) The mini-van I was hoping to drive has turned into an old Accord. Hindi siya comfortable.

Question bro, do you have to go to one of the ski resorts to experience snow? O sa tabi lang ng daan going up the mountain eh meron ka nang makikita?

If you're in LA & want to see some snow, just drive over to Snow Summit in Big Bear. There's still plenty of snow there right now. For a shorter drive, try Mt. Waterman about an hour from downtown you might still catch some snow on the roads.

Went to Tahoe as planned and passed by Squaw Valley which still had abundant snow by April 20. Skiers were still in cloud 9 as were my kids.

Next stop was nearby Tahoe City where we rested by a free lakeside park. It was marvelous just hanging out admiring the wonderful view of the lake and it's surrounding snow-capped mountains. Certainly worth the 3.5-hour trip from SF.

Speaking of Frisco, that city is postcard picture-perfect.

They just need to do something about the homeless and the drunks that roam around though. Had an incident that scared me shitless: a drunk entered the Burger King restaurant I and my two young kids were in and started to harass the couple eating in the table next to where my kids were while I was in line in the counter. I had to rush to my kids' side as the drunk began challenging the only other 2 males beside myself to a fight. He was demanding that he be given food. Good thing he was thrown out by the manager. Geesh! By the way, this was in the Fisherman's Wharf area at around 7 pm.

One thing you'll need in CA - a GPS unit! It will save you a lot of headaches in going to the places you'd like!

We were in LA two weeks ago, and the GPS unit saved us a lot of aggravation. The car we rented had a Garmin GPS in it.

Re: Disneyland, confirm thru internet when they'll have fireworks. We went there on a weekday to avoid the crowds, but we also missed the fireworks - they only had it on weekends.

Also, try to go to the Amusement areas as early as possible, since they close early if it's not tourist season yet. Universal Studios closed at 6pm. We were informed that Legoland closed earlier - 4pm daw. That's for April. Not sure what their times of operations will be for May.

If you're planning to go to Big Bear, confirm first thru the internet if they're open. We were planning to drive up there to let the kids see some snow, but we were informed that they closed the area starting April 15.

Hope this helps.

He, he. Sometimes, the GPS could be the source of aggravation. IMOE, it told me to turn left in no left turn corners twice, told me to exit the freeway only to drive on straight to the freeway onramp thrice, and ordered me countless times to go around the busy city streets when passing through one freeway instead would have sufficed.

The thing that works best for me is to plot your route the night before using google maps so that you can customize the route you will take. If however you find yourself in unfamiliar territory, then the Sat Nav device is saviour.

By the way, I used a Magellan.
