The PC and Laptop Repair Guide

Recommended Posts

Guest djunya2006

Could any of you computer guru's please assist me in reformat the computer and update all the drivers. Sorry to admit it but I am a nincompoop when it comes to doing this. Could be so kind to go over the steps with me. Thanks in advance

Here are some general principles about laptops.

1. Their parts are more pricey than desktops. So, when you have to buy for upgrade or repairs, expect to pay a hefty price. Even if you get a discounted price, expect the price to be still high as compared to parts of a desktop.

2. You may have peripherals repaired/changed, i.e., memory/video cards, HD, etc. BUT, if the motherboard goes kaput, you might as well buy a new laptop. Why? Because, the motherboard is generally the computer itself. You will spend so much to have that change, you won't be even sure IF your laptop will function like it used to. (2.1) Your new motherboard may have some conflicts with its peripherals, or (2.2) your peripherals may soon wear out because they are old.

The rule of thumb is: have a backup always of your docs and files. It is wise to invest in an external HD.

i did a little research. Apparently, the ALT+F10 are the keys used to access the restore to factory settings for Acer System. Check this link http://www.computing...rking/8480.html

you dont wanna change any of this unless you plan to do dual or multiple boots on your system.

i agree. tampering with it may render your system unbootable. if you don't have any problem booting up your system, leave it as it is.

to answer your question, it looks like a boot utlity to edit boot options.

boot options could either be physical(cdrom, harddisk, usb, etc) or system (safe-mode, LGKC, normal, etc)

the lower part is your boot.ini. it tells the system which disk and partition contains your operating system or boot files.
