Rubi1909
One thing that most people disregard or hate to admit, is the factor of LUCK. If you start from zero, you need to have the skills that pay the bills, until you hit your breakthrough with your passion. If you do not have time, at least please read on ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER (Case 4). Case 1 - Nikola Tesla Focused too much on passion and ambition Not interested in business, and had poor financial choices, always leaving a lot of unpaid bills. Put up several business ventures, had partnership with Westinghouse and left with a large fortune (valued today in millions of dollars). Through bad luck and a series of failed business ventures, he LOST IT ALL because of too many bad investments, failed experiments, and mounting debts. DIED PENNILESS. Case 2 - Thomas Edison Passion for inventions Learned early the importance of financial backers. Always found a way to monetize his knowledge and opportunities Died a millionaire. Case 3 - Vincent Van Gogh Born to an upper middle class family Focused on passion (painting, art) Did not focus on money. Received a large monthly allowance from his brother Theo, but spent them on art supplies (very expensive during his time), alcohol, and his smoking habit. Has addiction to women and brothels (a very expensive habit...). Received recognition, but it was too late. At age 37, shot himself (no consensus on the reason for this). His artworks increased in value (today valued in the millions of dollars) AFTER HE DIED. DIED PENNILESS. Case 4 - Arnold Schwarzenegger Born to a middle-class family, suffered abuse from his father. First passion is bodybuilding. Became a champion in Europe, but penniless, he went to America. While doing bodybuilding, had to support himself doing construction work, being a fitness instructor, and selling subscriber gym courses. Had the luck to be: tall at 6'2" when average bodybuilders that time is 5'9" (genetics), with a handsome face (genetics). Used his work ethic (hard work, discipline) to be noticed by the financiers and sponsors in the bodybuilding community. Retired from bodybuilding as a champion, and used his earnings to have a portfolio of art and real estate in California. Millionaire by this time. (Money) Wrote a book on bodybuilding and starred in Pumping Iron, giving him a taste of show business. (Money) Transitioned to his passion for show business and had bit roles in comedies and Italian B-movies. Auditioned thousands of times. During this time, supported himself with non-showbiz sources of income. Was given opportunity to star in the movie Terminator. The movie is a perfect vehicle for Arnold's body. His body, his accent. (luck) Started the trend towards muscular action stars. With Terminator 2: Judgment Day, earned billions of dollars and established himself as a bankable movie star (emphasis on BANKABLE). Retired from show business as a successful A-list actor Transitioned to his passion for politics. (Passion) Using his acting and business sense, became connected to political people in the US. Was introduced to Maria Shriver, from the famed, wealthy and powerful Kennedy family. (Luck) Married Maria and had several children. Became part of the Kennedy family. Used his charm, his work ethic, and the Kennedy political machinery, became the governor of the US State of California. Today known as an elder statesman, and a self-made man. So for me, answer is MONEY while working hard to get LUCKY with my PASSION. Quote Link to comment
