THIS IS IN RELATION TO DICKMANS QUERIES

 

1. WOULD YOU MIND GIVING US AN IDEA ON THOSE RACKETS BEING DONE AT CONSTRUCTION SITE FOR OUR POOR WORKERS

 

< WELL THERE ARE LOTS OF RACKETS, AND MIND YOU NOT JUST CONSTRUCTION WORKERS BUT A LOT OF THOSE DAILY WAGE EARNERS.

 

ONE OF THOSE RACKETS ARE WHAT WE CALL "YELLOW DOG" CONTRACTS...IT GOES SIMPLY LIKE THIS, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO SIGN A WORK CONTRACT, IT IS EITHER YOU SIGN OR YOU DONT, BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT EITHER ITS DISADVANTEGEOUS OR NOT YOU STILL HAVE TO SIGN ( TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT ) THATS WHY IT IS TERMED AS A YELLOW DOG CONTRACT, AND THATS NOT ALL...THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THEY HIRE, THEY ASK YOU TO SIGN A BLANK CASH VOUCHER...WHICH IS OPEN TO ANY KINDS OF INSERTIONS...

 

BELIEVE ME THERE IS A LOT THAT THE GOVERNMENT STILL DONT KNOW...AND FAILS TO DO, THAT IS THE REASON I AM FOR THE INCREASE IN SALARY...SINCE IN REALITY IT IS NOT FOLLOWED TO THE LETTER.

 

EXAMPLE: THE MINIMUM WAGE IS 300.00, BUT IN REALITY ONLY 250.00-280.00 IS GIVEN, THEN THEY ADD " ALLOWANCES" TO MAKE IT APPEAR ITS 300.00, SUPPOSE TO BE IT HAS TO BE 300.00 + ALLOWANCES...I COULD BE WRONG ON THIS, BUT IF WE ARE GOING TO BE STRICTLY LEGALISTIC ON THIS..I BELIEVE I AM CORRECT WHEN I SAY THAT "MINIMUM WAGE" IS PLAIN AND SIMPLE - MINIMUM WAGE, AND IT DOESNT INCLUDE ALLOWANCES OR SH*T, AND THAT IS TO ALL GROUPS NOT JUST IN CONSTRUCTION

We're thinking of purchasing a land in Laguna for a resthouse. Is it cheaper to hire a local contractor to build our house or one from Metro Manila?

< WELL THE PRICE RANGE IS NOT THAT BIG..BUT LOGISTICS COSTS MIGHT...CONSIDER IF ITS GOING TO BE FROM MANILA YOU'D HAVE TO SHOULDER THERE DEPLOYMENT COST AND TEMPORARY HOUSING, THAT EXCLUDING THEIR WEEKLY TRAVEL EXPENSES AND BACK...BUT THAT DOESNT INCLUDE TRANSFER OF MATERIAL FROM MANILA TO LAGUNA...AND IT DEPENDS ON WHERE IN LAGUNA IS THAT...IF ITS IN SINILOAN AND ITS ADJOINING TOWNS LIKE CALIRAYA...IT IS GOING TO COST YOU BIG TIME.

Hello po! My concern is not really about a major construction project. Although we're planning for a house extension project, eh kulang pa po ang budget, :lol: My question is about interior wall painting for our master's bedroom. Super odd po kasi ang ceiling and there's only one small window in the room. Well dalawa po actually since we remove the aircondition unit and installed it in another room. I took the liberty of painting the wall two months ago and it was a disaster! I was so nagkukuripot back then and decided not to buy paints from ACE. Kaya I bought Boysen paints and tinting colors and lakas ng loob na nagmix. It was horrible! Nagmukang polyclinic ang room namin and it looked even worse when I added white wood molding. Grabe! I've seen room makeover shows from hgtv and I kindda like green walls or chocolate brown, reds and terracota hues. Im just not sure how to make the room bigger or make the room feel comfy by color. Kasi po as of this moments nagiging tambakan na lang siya dahil nga I super hate it's color and we're not sleeping in it. <WELL...AT LEAST YOU'RE MAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT THAT MISTAKES WERE MADE..BUT FOR MOST OF US MORTALS..TRYING TO DO IT OURSELVES IS THE MOST THAT WE CAN DO...NOW....THE PROBLEM I SEE IS THAT THERE HAD BEEN A PROBLEM IN COLOR COMBINATIONS, ACTUALLY I DONT SEE IT AS THAT SINCE YOU YOURSELF SAID THE ROOM LOOKED LIKE A POLYCLINIC...I SUGGEST YOU CONVERT IT INTO ONE SO YOU CAN AT LEAST RECOVER THE COST OF MAKING IT ONE :lol: ANYWAY...AS YOU HAVE MENTIONED ALSO THAT YOU WERE TRYING TO COPY COMBINATIONS FROM PROGRAMS YOU'VE SEEN ON TV, WELL THATS A GOOD START..BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF YOU HAVE PHOTOS OF THOSE ROOMS AND WHEN YOU BOUGHT THE PAINT FROM ANY DIY SHOP..AND AT EXTRA COST HAD IT MIXED SO WHEN YOU HAVE IT AT HOME YOU'LL JUST SPREAD THE THING ON YOUR WALLS DI BA :) >

 

<IF YOU WANT TO MAKE YOU ROOM LOOK "SPACEY" WELL WITH A LITTLE COST, APPLY LITTLE ACCENTS TO MAKE IT APPEAR ROOMY...EXAMPLE...HAVE YOU SEEN THOSE SO CALLED LOFTS AT ROCKWELL..IT LOOKS BIG AND "ROOMY", BUT WHEN YOU ACTUALLY MEASURE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE ROOM ITS A BIT KINDA " SMALL " FROM WHAT IT COSTS, THE TRICK THERE IS THAT IT HAS HIGH CEILINGS WHICH GIVE IT AN ILLUSION OF SPACE ( I THINK IM GONNA BE SUED FOR THIS :) ) ANOTHER TRICK THAT YOU CAN DO IS LIKE THOSE THAT IVE MADE A WHILE BACK FOR THOSE "KITCSH" RESTOS WHO CALL THEMSELVES " FOOD LOUNGES" ( READ YOUR SOCIETY PAPER HEADLINES..THEY'LL SPROUT OUT IN TIME FOR THE OPENING OF CLASSES ) THE ILLUSION DONE THERE IS BY INSTALLING MIRRORS..YES THOSE HUGE RECTANGULAR MIRRORS SIMILAR TO BEAUTY SALONS, INSTALLING IT AT ONE SIDE DOES THE TRICK OF "SPACE" OR IF YOUR INSTALLING IT IN THE CEILING ( LIKE THOSE MOTELS...HE HE HE ) THEN ACTUATE IT WITH CEILING LIGHTS ( THOSE LIGHTS THAT SHOOT UP..NOT DOWN ) MAKES IT APPEAR MORE ROOMY AND NOT STUFFY >

Thank you for the suggestions.. but I'll post our room's pictures so you'll know exactly what it looks like and what I'm talking about.. pasintabi lang po sa mga astig ang kwarto ha... :blush:

got a question about waterproofing...i manage a 4-storey building and the firewall has some seepage when it rains...our neighbor is just a house, so it hits it directly....what is the best methodology form for waterproofing? initially they will all look for cracks and treat with epoxy and scrap / remove any flaky paints...but then after which it differs a little..this is where i need you expertise...is elastomeric paint enough or should i consider other form and if there are such better alternatives?

 

another, i also have water seeping into from the floor..i think it is from my terrace...what do you think and best form to treat it...thanx...

ELASTO MERIC IS A GOOD IDEA BUT YOU HAVE TO APPLY IT TO A SMOOTH RUBBED CONCRETE FINISH, IF YOUR WALL HAS THAT JUST HAVE IT CLEANED UP ( KISKISIN NG MAIGI YUNG LALAGYAN PARA MAY KAPITAN YUNG ELASTOMERIC PAINT MO ) IF THE WALL DOES NOT HAVE A SMOOTH RUBBED CONCRETE FINISH..WELL YOU DONT NEED TO IT COULD BE APPLIED DIRECTLY BUT IT WILL BE VERY THICK COAT..SO IT IS SUGGESTED YOU HAVE YOUR CONCRETE FINISH..WHILE YOUR DOING YOUR CONCRETE FINISH, TRY ADDING A WATERPROOFING ADDITIVE..KNOWN THRU THE BRAND NAME "SAHARA" ON THE CEMENT ( PARA SIGURADO ) THEN AFTER THE FINISH JUST APPLY THE ELASTOMERIC PAINT ( THEIR LOTS OF BRANDS ON THE MARKET..I SUGGEST YOU TRY MCNEIL BRAND OR THAT KOREAN BRAND WHERE THEY USE A NEWSPAPER INTO A BOX AND THEN THEY APPLIED THE PAINT AND MADE THE BOX LIKE A "PAIL" AND THAT MAKES IT CONVINCINGLY WATERPROOF >

thanks for the reply sir, here I am again, hehe, hmm, medyo mahal pala aabutin ng slab, kahit i 2 storey lang sya, tatanong ko lang po sana kase ang plan ko ngun is lagyan lang ng 2nd floor na kahoy, di po ba 6 by 4 sya, yung 2nd floor is 3 by 4 meaning kwarto lang talaga yung itaas, napag isip isip ko kase na i invest na lang sa ibang bagay yung money kung sakali, ang tanung po is ok lang po ba na walang biga yung 1st floor, wala rin syang poste sa gitna kase bungalow type lang yung pag kakagawa, isisingit lang yung 2nd floor na 3m ang haba and 4m wide, ok lang po ba na wag ng lagyan na biga, thanks po..
