Pepeng Manas
smoker din here. about 50% of the time, i smoke a stick after workout. wala naman effect sa kin. i am doing GVT now.. and GVT is a rigorous workout. i dunno... probably i could do better if i dont smoke. but anyway, mas malakas pa rin resistensya ko kumpara sa mga kasamahan ko sa gym na hindi nag-i-smoke... (thank you eclipse forum and coaches) Quote Link to comment
dyakhardy
heavy smoker ako before and nag-iba ang work-out ko when i stopped smoking, mas nakakatakbo ng malayo and nakakabuhat ng mabigat... now that's the difference... Quote Link to comment

Raman
Hehe Naks! Quote Link to comment
sikosci
wouldnt this contradict the fact that you are working out to get a healthy body?i see people coming out of the badminton courts in the metro all sweaty then light a cigar, and im like " what the!?"...thats an early death wish dont you think? aznarak
Smoking severely limits your lung's capacity to absorb oxygen and will consequently prevent you from maximizing the benefits of weight training. Quote Link to comment
gerrylb
I used to be a heavy smoker and a regular gym goer. My weightlifting was hardly affected by my smoking, I could still keep up with just about anyone else with regard to amount of weight and number of reps. When I got older and figured endurance was more important than big muscles I shifted to a cardio program. Bam! Ten minutes on a threadmill and I thought I was gonna faint! I've since quit smoking and can now run ten kilometers in a little more than an hour. Point is, smoking will affect your aerobic (weight loss) excercise ability, but not necessarily your anaerobic (muscle building) activity. Our captain in the powerlifting team back in college was a chain smoker, but could lift more than anyone else on the team. Quote Link to comment

Boysbe
I used to do this, my trainer being a B.I had always given me smokes after work-out. It doesnt have an effect on anaerobic exercises, but in aerobic exercises it has a big effect, often feeling more tired after a couple of laps. Quote Link to comment
