Smoking And Weightlifting

Recommended Posts

smoker din here. about 50% of the time, i smoke a stick after workout. wala naman effect sa kin. i am doing GVT now.. and GVT is a rigorous workout. i dunno... probably i could do better if i dont smoke. but anyway, mas malakas pa rin resistensya ko kumpara sa mga kasamahan ko sa gym na hindi nag-i-smoke... (thank you eclipse forum and coaches) :)

Hehe Naks!

I used to be a heavy smoker and a regular gym goer. My weightlifting was hardly affected by my smoking, I could still keep up with just about anyone else with regard to amount of weight and number of reps. When I got older and figured endurance was more important than big muscles I shifted to a cardio program. Bam! Ten minutes on a threadmill and I thought I was gonna faint! I've since quit smoking and can now run ten kilometers in a little more than an hour. Point is, smoking will affect your aerobic (weight loss) excercise ability, but not necessarily your anaerobic (muscle building) activity. Our captain in the powerlifting team back in college was a chain smoker, but could lift more than anyone else on the team.
