DJ_`yAn
Toyota Vios has timing chain. Quote Link to comment
FAHAD
yung mga lumang model na toyota like corolla 91 has timing chain. Pag binuksan m yung engine oil cap while nk-on engine at lumalabas ang oil- timing chain yun. pag nasiraan k ng belt-affected yung mga valve mo, masisira yung pipe. better not to start the engine pg-naputulan ka. corolla 91' is equipped with either 4AF or 2E engines, both are belt driven. FAHAD
timing belt: pro - tahimik/smooth ang operation. cons - anytime pwede mag break. recommended na palitan every 80k Kms. pero naputulan na ang engine ko at a little plus 50K kms. timing chain:pro - lalagitik/maingay muna bago maputol. there alone may indication ka na kailangan na i-replace. con - maingay/ malagitik compared to belt. just the same, regular check-up/maintenance will save you a lot. its just a belt or chain pero TIRIK ang auto mo, no way mo mapapaandar pag naputol. at pag naputol ang timing belt or chain, damay pati valves or pati head pag minalas ka pa. pero this will not happen to non-interference cam+valve type engines like most DOHC. FAHAD
usually talaga 80t kmspero minsan ndi na pinapaabot un, usually 70k tkm papalitan or maybe 60k gli ko due na rin nagiipon pako kasi malaki talagagastos hehehe naputulan na rin ako ng belt at a little past 50k kms. while at it bro, replace mo na din mga oil seals (cam and crankshaft oil seals - NOK brand should be alright) and get the geniune parts for the belt and tensioner bearings (genuine or NSK will be alright). FAHAD
Nung binili mo car mo brand new? Harurot ka ba lagi? nope. engine was swapped. all belts and seals where replaced with genuine parts during the install. but a good question. walang harurot sa metro manila. ........ ang sarap ng tunog ng induction / intake past 4500 to redline RPM pag sa NLEX or SLEX :thumbsupsmiley: then paglabas sa san fernando exit toll, harap ng paskuhan village namatay ang makina, tumirik ang auto.......ayaw mag start.....sana ng kutob mo...binuksan ko ang distributor cap then pinatingnan ko sa tambay kung umiikot ang rotor while cranking....di daw umikot....tawag na kay erpat....padala na ng towing rope.... :thumbsdownsmiley: Edited July 19, 2007 by FAHAD Quote Link to comment
troubleshooter8
Just replace them based on the manual to avoid problems. Engines with timing belts are less noisy than engines with timing chains. Quote Link to comment
tacio
timing gears- maingay pero bihira masiratiming chains mas matibay sa belt. usuali sabay sa overhaul pag palittiming belt- smooyh and quiet. usuali replace every 100t kms. easiest to replace too Quote Link to comment
chuckE
Timing belt makes the engine quieter. Pero you have to replace it every 100 thousand miles usually as recommended by the manufacturer. It gets expensive to replace especially if it is a V6 or V8. Timing chain is almost the life time of the engine. It is correct that if you overhaul the motor, might as well replace it. Timing gear is usually used in racing. It is sometimes called gear train. They wear out too. For your typical cars, belt or chain will do. Gear train for racing, sounds awesome too! :thumbsupsmiley: Edited May 29, 2009 by chuckE Quote Link to comment
alteclansing
I remember it was a very horrible experience nung naputulan ako ng belt on my galant. Stress level was so high pati sa bulsa. Buti na lang malapit pa ako sa bahay when this happened. I was about to enter C5 when biglang nawalang ng hatak tapos namatay lahat ng kuryente. Never had an idea it was the belt. Sinubukan ang kadyot check electricals, lahat no luck. Nung tinignan ng mechanic ayun timing belt nga. Luckily wala naman ibang nasira. Top overhaul ang kinailangan. Gastos. Quote Link to comment

MTBCommuter
II used to own a 1990 Toyota AE92 1600 16valve and I remember having a timing belt and not a chain... Maybe what you see beneath the oil cap are the gears connected to the double overhead cams... I used to own a corolla 90 xl5. 2e engine, timing belt. I had it replaced when it broke Quote Link to comment
