gemican_2000
Ano nga ba. Ang mitsu diesels naka timing belt, ang nissan naman they boast timing chain while isuzu uses timing gear, can you guys share your thoughts on these. Naputulan na kasi ako ng timing belt sa L300 delivary van ko and ang mahal ng nagastos ko to think puro replacement pa nilagay ko. Tsk tsk. I have an L-300 diesel. It has two belts inside the cover. The timing belt and the balancer belt. Mas manipis nga lang yung balancer belt. Kung sabay mo ito pinapalitan, it is always the balancer belt that gives away. Magbabago takbo at maingay makina. You can still drive it to an auto shop. It happened to me once. Galing talaga ng mitsu; bigyan ka muna warning. Basta palit ka between 60k to 80k kms. para safe. When that happened to me, more than 100k kms na tinakbo nung belt. I learned my lesson. Quote Link to comment
tsuchiya
Not all Isuzu's have timing chains. there are a few Isuzu engines that use a belt. oil spewing out of the cylinder head when opening the oil cap has nothing to do if it is timing chain or timing belt. the only sure way to tell is either to check the manual or open the cylinder head cover or on most japanese cars the timing gear cover. when the timing belt brakes the parts that will most probably break are the valves, valve guide, valve springs and the piston or if the engine was revving really a whole lot of other parts in the cylinder head. what happens when the timing belt break is the valves on one or two of the cylinders will not be close during the compression and the piston will hit it, breaking the valves or itself. replacing the timing belt at 60t or 70t kms is really recommended even if the manual says 100 just to take into account if the engine was driven hard by the previous owner. replacing the tensioner is also recommended with the change in belt. if you use a replacement belt instead of OEM subtract 20kms from the usual interval. toobz
the main advantage of the timing belt butween the timing gear is the smoothness and quieteness.....the timing chain is somewhat a compromise between the 2... most smaller displacement diesel engines use any of the 3 to actuate the engine valves......but on bigger diesel engine the usual configuration is the timing gear, owing to its more robust nature hope this helps Quote Link to comment
eneb3
timing chain matagal masira, kahit luma na engine parang bago parin yung chain, nissan uses timing chains on their J engines found in local sentra's, down side lang nito is maingay pag tumagal na ng 5 years yung kotse pero nissans RB and SR engines ata is timing belt... timing belt naman breaks kung abused engine parati, pero normal city driving mga 70-100k kms ang life nya Quote Link to comment
hsmeilop
follow the manual na lang. replace before you reach replacement date. mas mura magpapalit ng timing belt/chain kesa masira mga valves and other parts sa makina mo! Quote Link to comment
