boomouse
This discussion is either obsolete or soon will be. The number of cars with manual transmissions that can be used like automatics are on the rise. 1. The twin clutch robotized manual of the Mitsu Evo X MR is now available on the non-turbo Lancer Ralliart.2. Porsche will be licensing use of their PDG (Porsche doppelkuplung greibe) tranny which is like the one used by Mitsubishi3. Of course, BMWs M-Group has been continuously developing the SMG, sequential 'M' gearbox. All of these are manual transmissions with an automatic mode. They come with two pedals and a robotic, computer-controlled clutch. Then there are the automatics that can be shifted like manuals via paddles or toggles. Consider too the increasing number of CVT-equipped cars (continuously variable transmission-using a belt with variable diametre pulleys that ensure the most efficient gear ratios for any given driving situation--like an automatic tranny scooter). Some CVTs have six or seven speeds through driver-selectable preset ratios. Quote Link to comment
