If you haven't exercised in a while, let your first 2 workouts/activities be at about 50-60% effort.

Research shows that soreness is overexertion and overwxertion increase risk of injury.

Ignore the old saying that soreness is good because it means you oushed yourself. Save that for after 2-3 weeks of consistent exercise/activity.

I don't know if I have a bruised my rib... 11 months into my gym journey and I tried inclined DP 70 pound for the 2nd time (1st week was fine) and after the 6th rep, my left side gave in and soon after my right, and I thought I was safe since it landed on my chest but I heard a loud thud sound on my end but wasn't sure where it exactly is. I probably got a boost after that incident  and was able to continue with the rest of day. 2 days later, I exercised my core and found a little pinching sensation on my left rib but again I ignored it and continued anyways. Now, I'm having a hard time even coughing a little because if f*#$ng hurts. I have applied patch and been on the bed for almost a day and hope this is not that serious...
