Sir Galahad®
HOT, HOT BEERMEN WIN AGAIN Cablay, Racela lift SMB to 8th win in a row Sunday, 27 May 2007 Brandon Cablay made the most of his rare start and Olsen Racela sank four free throws in the final 30 seconds as the San Miguel Beermen won their eighth straight. Cablay had a terrific night, capping it with two key plays in the closing minute to cushion the impact of Barangay Ginebra's desperate rally and led the Beermen to a 101-98 decision over the Kings Sunday in the 2007 Talk N Text PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum. After Rod Nealy split his free throws to tie the count at 95-95 with 1:24 to play, SMB called time before Cablay (9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and an ounce of hustle) scored off Ginebra's reserve center Andy Seigle from the right low block. Then on SMB's next possession, the athletic guard grabbed an offensive rebound that paved the way for Racela's two free throws and a 99-95 lead that held on to the end. "This is a big game for us. It’s tough to beat Ginebra but our guys gave them a heck of a challenge and made key plays in the end game,' said SMB coach Siot Tanquingcen, who is now 9-5 since taking over the coaching chores from assistant Biboy Ravanes. Their eighth consecutive win improved the Beermen's record to 9-7 and gave them a slim chance of earning a free ride to the semifinals. "Right now we're not looking elsewhere. Our mindset is focused on Air21. They're our next opponent and we need to win that game badly to improve our chance. If we finish at No. 2 so be it," Tanquingcen said. Dorian Pena tallied 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Danny Ildefonso added 17 points for San Miguel, which won against Ginebra for the first time since Game 2 of last year's Philippine Cup Finals. Galen Young turned in 12 points, 10 assists and 10 turnovers for a dubious triple double before fouling out with 84 seconds remaining. Despite his absence though, the Beermen managed to hang tough. It was indeed a hard earned victory for the Beermen. And they did it by matching the Kings' intensity, grit, determination and tenacity off the boards. "We never backed off. In the end that was what mattered,' Tanquingcen said. Ronald Tubid scored 24 points and Nealy added 21 to go with just seven rebounds for the Kings, who picked up their sixth defeat and fell to 11-6 in a tie with Alaska and Talk N Text at second place. The loss also jeopardized their chances to make the semifinals outright. The Kings had a chance to force overtime after Racela (10 points) made two free throws to make the count 101-98 with 4.5 seconds. But Sunday Salvacion missed to desperate threes as time expired. "Those were really good looks. We're lucky they didn't find the mark," Tanquingcen said. (DBC) The scores: San Miguel 101 – Pena 22, Ildefonso 17, Young 12, Calaguio 12, Racela 10, Cablay 9, Tenorio 8, Adducul 6, Gonzales 3, Wilson 2. Ginebra 98 – Tubid 24, Nealy 21, Abarrientos 18, Menk 8, Santos 8, Seigle 7, Salvacion 6, Mamaril 4, Chia 2, Macapagal 0. Quarters: 25-23, 47-44, 75-71, 101-98. Quote Link to comment

kLique
perhaps the darkest day in SMB franchise history(taken from www.malaya.com.ph) Bulls send Villanuevato SMC for Adducul-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RATCHABURI, Thailand. – When Enrico Villanueva returns to the Philippines Tuesday, he will report to the San Miguel camp and not at Red Bull. After months of negotiation, Villanueva has been sent by the Bulls to the Beermen in exchange for Romel Adducul, according to PBA Commissioner Noli Eala. The deal was sealed after a meeting between Red Bull team manager Tony Chua, who arrived here Monday, and SMC official Robert Non. The paper work for the deal is being finalized so Villanueva and Adducul can play for their new teams on Wednesday. The deal was sealed when the pro league approved Red Bull’s request to remove Villanueva from the team’s "restricted trade list." The RTL status has been transferred to Mick Pennisi. The RTL system has been put in place by the Commissioner’s Office to insure parity in the league and avoid one-sided deals. At the same time, the Commissioner’s Office designated one player from each team to the RTL list. Players in the RTL pool can only be traded to one another. Red Bull, which scored three wins while Villanueva was playing for the RP team here, sought a change in the team’s RTL player so it could trade Villanueva, a change approved by the league. Villanueva, drafted by the Bulls three years ago, will part ways with former Ateneo teammates Magnum Membrere, Paolo Bugia and Larry Fonacier. At San Miguel, he will join forces with ex-Ateneo teammates Wesley Gonzales and LA Tenorio. Adducul will return to Red Bull, one of the teams where he played for in the PBL. Quote Link to comment
gullible
the deal benefits the 2 teams, romel will have his playing time he has long wished for and enrico will surely fit in to smb's system. but the instant impact goes to smb, this will help boost their bid this conference. Quote Link to comment

I beg to disagree...Rico's still at his prime... while Rommel is past it!RB would've been better off getting Dorean or Danny I. Quote Link to comment
