telemaster_311
what is the difference between the robot and the SG standard? you got fat budget there bud! happy hunting! Quote Link to comment
hammett_fan
Ok let me try answering my own inquiry on set-up based on what I was able to research so far. Feel free to comment. First off - the main piece, the axe. I want the classic black Gibson SG. If I could wait it out, I want to get the Robot II which according to my intel will come off the hinges within 4 months. What do you think? Is it worth waiting out? Any experience on the first Robot ? Anyways, Im a lefty, and I was told by a Gibson representative from Nashville (where Gibson parent company is based) that they could customize a Robot II left-handed guitar for for additional yayos. Second, the amp. Marshall seems to be the one that works best for the Gibson SG. Now the question is what wattage is best for home playing. Is 100 watts low, high or just about right? And what about the model ? I saw the Marshall MG100DFX. It's huge I thought. But then again, the MG50DFX is just slightly smaller and slightly cheaper than the former. I was told that the MG100DFX (DFX stands for Digital Effects; 100 stands for the wattage; MG stands for "My God !" ), covers much effects and elimintes use of common effects such as bass chorus and distortion pedals. I was a bit bummed though because I want to learn to play old style, with the use of the pedals. Third, the footswitch. Not sure if this comes with the amp as some reviews say it does while others don't. So, to be conservative about it, I separated the footswitch, which is used to control the amp by foot. Fourth, the wireless gig. I've browsed and stumbled upon Sennheiser EW 172 G2. They feature 9 frequency banks in the 518-554 MHz range. I've not yet identified the radar of this gig so feel free to chime in data. The setlist is composed of : 1) SK 100 G2 bodypack transmitter2) EM 100 G2 rack-mount receiver3) CI 1 instrument cable4) NT 2-1 power supply unit5) 2 telescopic antennas6) 2 AA batteries Fifth, the headphone. I have not yet done research on this but would you know of wireless headphones? I mean, it doesn't make sense to play wireless guitar if my headphone is wired, does it? Please feel free to comment on the set-up, if they make sense. Minus the computer which I already have, Im budgeting not higher than Php150,000. Thanks in advance for feedback, hope I get some.ok na yung unang robot pre, ewan ko kung ano diff nung robot 2. sulit na yung features. if i were you i wouldn't spend on a wireless, and spend on a good 2nd hand tube amp instead of a marshall mg. sobra yung 100watts for home playing. a tube amp with 15 watts is plenty loud. MRROUGHSEX
what is the difference between the robot and the SG standard? you got fat budget there bud! happy hunting!men, the first robot tunes by itself. the second robot is yet to be launched, but hopefully soon. no data yet on the innovations. the robot version is for all the line of Gibson electric guitars, not just SG. sorry if I got you confused, I just learned of it myself last night. grabe binaba ng price ng robot i versions due to the robot ii. almost 40% slash. MRROUGHSEX
Robot recently won best music hardware (not just guitar) award for 2008. Here's first two paragraphs of the news article : " The Gibson Robot Guitar was awarded with the prestigious "Best Music Hardware Award" at the BT Digital Music Awards 2008. The BT Digital Music Awards now in its seventh year was held at the Roundhouse in London on Wednesday 1st October. The Gibson Robot guitar is the world’s first guitar with robotic technology and beat stiff competition from the Motorola ROKR E8 and Ripserver. The Best Music Hardware Award in association with Stuff Magazine was decided upon by a panel of distinguished industry judges. The Gibson Robot Guitar was sighted for its innovation, usability, style and price point among other features. " Quote Link to comment
MRROUGHSEX
I now prefer the blackburst over the classic black. It's just screaming LET THERE BE ROCK ! Edited November 15, 2008 by MRROUGHSEX Quote Link to comment
hammett_fan
wow the blackburst looks like a mix between classic and futuristic. pare i highly recommend you to listen to a tube amp, it's worth the exorbitant price haha! will this be for home use lang like practice or for recording? kasi if you're gonna be playing with yourself, este, by yourself lang, i don't see how you can get the maximum benefit of the wireless. oo nga pala lefty ka nga pala, mahirap nga maghanap ng guitars for lefty. if you want you can have one custom made, madami nauuso na custom guitar makers here in the phils Quote Link to comment
MRROUGHSEX
Ganda noh ? I feel like pag tinutugtog ko na sya, Im scoring a hot black chick! Know what, that is not a robot guitar, that is Tyra Banks, that's what she is. Haha. Men I'll take your word for it. What brand / model / wattage would you recommend for tube amp? hammett_fan
nako that depends on your type of music, pang-metalan ba? blues, pop etc? dapat bibilhin mo din yung bagay sayo hehe, kahit tube yan pag iba sa expected tone mo yung nabili mo, yari ka Quote Link to comment
MRROUGHSEX
AC DC music ko. Quote Link to comment
16track
I love Angus Young!Thunderstruck and Highway to hell remains a jam favorite.Up to now- an AC/DC cd is inside my Car. As far as I can recall, Angus Young plays an SG direct to a couple of 100 watt Marshall heads. He does not like pedals and prefers to plug straight to the amps. For guitars, as much as I love Les Pauls and Strats -- I have a strong liking for SGs as well. The guitar's design allows access to higher frets with much ease plus the lighter body creates a tonally different sound than Pauls. That kind of reasoning gets my wife to allow me to have both! heheh! AC DC music ko. Edited November 19, 2008 by 16track Quote Link to comment
MRROUGHSEX
Haha! Nice to know Im not alone in the thread with AC DC disc in car. Actually what I have in it right now is a 10 song compilation disc I made from their 2 best albums : Hells BellsIf You Want Blood You've Got ItShot Down In FlamesShook Me All Night LongGivin The Dog A BoneBack In BlackShake A LegHighway To HellGet It HotShoot To Thrill Ok ba pareng 16rack? By the way, I am bummed as what I have been reading from the Internet about Robot not going to be produced for leftys was confirmed by the Gibson company itself. I cry discrimination haha! With reluctance, I asked for my next choice, the blackburst, and they too said they don't carry that for leftys. Ouch! Now we all know every rule has exceptions. For sure they will make exceptions for owner's relatives, Gibson executives, celebrities, and those willing to offer obscene amount to have it. Im also certain those who will sleep with the makers can also get a lefty robot and free at that! However, not falling under those billings, I am slowly contenting myself on the next option : the classic ebony left handed solid guitar (SG). BACK IN BLACK ! . . . YES I'M BACK IN BLACK !!!!
