ElPatayo
MTC bros, sis / MDs: I was told to monitor my BP. What time of the day or night to properly check my BP. TIA OT po ito. I would like to have a check up for my cardio condition @ my age of 39. Pls refer me to a good cardio specialist from MCU hospital in Monumento Caloocan. TIA The best time to check you BP is after you wake up from bed in the morning, try to check your BP for 3 consecutive days, if it is high than normal 120/80 then you need to see a doctor for proper consultation/medication. green80
I'm 45 years old and have been taking a combination of Lipitor 10mg (Atorvastatin) & Concor 5mg (Bisoprolo fumarate) for the past 8 years now and I am able to maintain my BP in the normal levels. Liver test along with other monitoring tests done every 6-8 months show the results are within normal ranges. I try to do my daily 30 min cardio exercise whenever I can but not as frequently as required. I go to my doctor for my monthly BP checkups and prescription for the drugs. I have been told that these medication are to be taken for life. Doc, my question is can I stop taking these medicaton right away and just watch my diet and do regular exercise? Quote Link to comment

DASH diet plus 30 mins aerobic exercise (yung pinapawisan at tumataas ang heart rate) 4 to 6 times a week reduces BP levels even more. Quote Link to comment

My internist doctor also told me that my medication is for a lifetime, which I am not convinced I check the net and found some natural treatment for the hypertension but of course, I have to consult a professional first so I go to a cardiologist. First she checked me and gave a medication, then she wants me to monitor my BP for 3 months and she will decide if we're going to stop my medication or lower the dosage. That is, most doctors will tell you that your medication should be taken for life which I don't agree. At least I found a cardiologist who shares my opinion that if we follow certain diet and medication there is a possibility that you can control your BP to a normal level and have those medication stop. Hope our fellow doctors here in MTC share their knowledge and opinion about this. Quote Link to comment
Bram Stooker
hmmm.. pls don't ignore doctor's advice to take the medication regularly. maybe you can skip but have your BP monitored. There's a lot of casesthat they said they are cured with natural supplements or herbal healingand they totally stop taking maintenance since they felt great! But sad to say after a month, they have cardiac arrest. Because in reality, being hypertensive is just a sign that some of yourbody organs did not respond actively. And take note that sickness like vertigo, diabetes, RA(rheumatoid arthritis), etc may also contribute a person to be hypertensive. Quote Link to comment
BUTTPHILE
Hi Doc!!! I'm hypertensive and I take amlodipine 10 mg QD and losartan potassium 100 mg QD. For exercise, I have a stationary bike which I use for 20 minutes QD before taking the shower. I also go to the MPs to relieve some stress and is also my other form of exercise. I watch my diet and avoid fatty foods as much as I could. My blood pressure is controlled according to my doctors. I have two doctors from two different hospitals and they both observed that the hypertension is under control. On my last examination about 6 months ago, I went to an Opthalmologist as part of my diabetic regimen because I'm suppose to be check for diabetic retinopathy since I'm also a diabetic. The doctor is checking for diabetic retinopathy but instead found out that I have a hypertensive retinopathy stage 1. She prescribed me an artificial tears solution, 1.4% since according to her my retina is dry and I have to apply this solution BID. My question is: What happened? I thought my hypertension is under control! And I even have two doctors telling me the same thing! Would you mind explaining how these things happened? Thank you so much. Quote Link to comment

You need to be checked for secondary causes of hypertension. Blood pressure control and tight control of diabetes will decrease risk for microvascular and macrovascular complication, unfortunately they cannot elliminate the progression completely. Quote Link to comment
cocoy0
@angelbyday: I blame American paranoia for this issue with mercury in thermometers and sphygmos. @CELTS: Uninformed internet searches can be expensive to your health in the long run. Don't believe everything in the internet. @knoll1234: High Blood Pressure is usually a symptom of other conditions. Hence, it can be influenced by the factors of those conditions. Genetics, environment and habits. Cures? Technically speaking there are none. Scientists are still trying to understand how the processes work. The hot word today is PREVENTION. Quote Link to comment
