Anthology in malate. I stay at the bar when i want to grab a beer. Lights are dim. They play 80's music. But the dj's, im sure, will be friendly and accomodating enough to give you a softer tune to listen to. Waiters are friendly and wouldnt bug you. Feels like home. Especially if you're a regular.

Let me say I'm middle-aged. Certainly not ancient. And while I'm at it, I might as well say I'm very much old-school in the sense that I perpetually search for this kind of scenario. For a nice wooden, no frills, lonely, dimly lit bar. Where the drink is good, and where there's nobody to bother you. The bartender does not disturb you and stays in a corner wiping the washed beer mugs and glasses. No fancy lights.....in fact, nothing blinking (except maybe for a small Christmas tree if it were in season). And beside the bar, a handful of those conical lampshades that hang from the ceiling on a long cord, straight down to a small table with a low wattage bulb. A couple of wooden chairs with wrought iron frames....no fancy upholstery. At the most, just two quiet waiters who're not going to spoil your night with their inane chatter. And with absolutely no boisterous person in the premises. Maybe some John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Nina Simone, or Billie Holiday subtly in the background.

I havent seen one too in the Philippines, maybe you can try bar inside the hotel.

Sure. It's along Adriatico St.

From Roxas Blvd, turn left (if you're in the south bound lane) or right (if you're in the north bound lane) to Pedro Gil St.

Pass through 2 blocks (M.H.Del Pilar and Mabini Sts.) and turn right to Adriatico.

Anthology is between Bedrock and Cafe Adriatico (just before Remedios Circle).

Am sure you'll enjoy your stay. =)

i feel you bro. so hard to find a bar where you can talk to your companion without rasing your voice, unless you have money to hang out in a hotel bar. even harder to find one with miles davis playing in the background.
