photographer
IdolAtienza for President? If Pacman has his way Updated June 24, 2009 12:00 AM MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao is pushing Environment Secretary Lito Atienza to run for President in the 2010 elections. The boxing icon who’s also running for Congress in Saranggani Province said Monday evening that if he could have his way he’d like to see the former mayor of Manila and now Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to become the next President. He said Atienza’s accomplishments even when he was still Manila mayor speaks well of him. “If you’d ask me who should sit as our next President, I should say it’s Lito Atienza. He’s pro-people, pro-country, pro-natural resources and pro-God,” said Pacquiao after gracing the inauguration of the Manila Grand Opera Hotel Casino in Manila. “We all saw how he beautified the city of Manila. He lighted it up and developed the city. He gave away scholarships to the poor. I think he deserves to sit as our next President,” said Pacquiao. But that’s if Atienza would run against those who have signified their intentions, including former President Joseph Estrada, Senators Loren Legarda, Manny Villar, Mar Roxas, Chiz Escudero and Richard Gordon, MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando, Makati Mayor Jojo Binay, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro. “If you’d ask me, Secretary Atienza should be our next president. But it’s up to him,” added Pacquiao in Filipino. “I think he can help change our country. In our moments together, I have known him as someone who’s pro-poor. He said he wants to provide jobs for every Filipino, and keep the beggars off the streets. He said if they have jobs then they won’t beg,” said Pacquiao. Pacquiao ran for a congressional seat in his hometown in Gen. Santos City in 2007 but, despite his closeness to Malacañang, lost to incumbent Darlene Custodio. He wants to give it another shot in Saranngani, and it seems that he’s now doing it under the banner of the opposition. A few days ago, he met with Estrada in GenSan and got the endorsement of the ex-President. “I’ve known Manny Pacquiao as pro-poor because he was once poor. Yes, I endorse him,” said Estrada, who raised the hand of the boxer. “I want to extend my gratitude to President Estrada,” said Pacquiao, “because it’s not only in boxing where he supports me but in my hopes of fulfilling my dreams.” Pacquiao, however, said he has not yet made any commitment to anyone Quote Link to comment

dragonei
If there is one thing I have to dislike about manny, its the company he keeps. Many of them are just riding on his coat tail. The only reason why he wants to be a congressman was because, Chavit Singson said na dun siya mas maganda ilagay. The True calling of Manny pacquiao is sports not politics, and he should realize that. Remember Manny has not yet even reached a prime. Lalo pa siyang gumagaling with each fight. He is having more and more fans, and he owes it to the sport and the people who watch his fights to be the best of what he can be in this sport. He should listen to the people. They want him on the ring, not in congress. 2 scenarios nakikita ko for manny to change his mind 1.) Hindi siya iboto ng mga tao, and he would realize that he has to be on the ring, kasi yun ang gusto ng tao sa kanya. 2.) Floyd wins over marquez, and calls out manny next. Floyd being the trash talking punk he is, will assume the villain role will start taunting manny pacquiao. Then he will start giving racial slurs to the Philippines, and manny would be forced to postpone his political plans to protect the honor of our country. Remember Floyd toyed with the british flag nung press conference nila ni hatton. Quote Link to comment
redblack
Don't believe everything you read about this being his last fight. Honestly, Pacquiao likes the adulation but he is a tired fighter, that can happen to any fighter, having started when he was 18. BUT, BUT he cannot walk away from fights that can make him $20-40M/fight. He will fight Mosley, Mayweather and JMM III and then call it quits. So that would put him, finally retiring at around 2011. photographer
Wag kang gago, Manny. Quote Link to comment

iankupal
Dapat talunin nya si Mayweather in a devastating fashion para me tsansa siya sa ATG na title. He needs to pass Cotto first. Quote Link to comment
wizard23
unlike in politics, his opponent is a heavyweight. the Chiongbians had the edge as they already have the clout, experience and dynasty so sana matalo si pacquiao sa politics para marealize nya hindi politics ang true calling nya but boxing.
