PacMan's Corner

For me, medyo wala ng sense of HONOR ang Boxing...

"PERA PERA nalang"

good point. dapat ang usapan, whoever wins gets the bigger pie para talagang exciting ang laban kasi nga you're fighting for the bigger prize.

Di naman. He's the world's pound for pound boxing king, so he has the right to bid sa hatian. Hatton was defeated by Mayweather so his chips are down na. Manny has beaten them, practically, all na. In reality, its still business and, parang employee sa isang opisina, you know your worth, why not ask for additional pay? Kundi yung sweldo mo, with all your worthiness, magiging kasing (50-50) pareho lang ng lowly, incompetent employee. The higher one assume his status, the higher siyempre his share of the pie.

i know. you just chose to see my statement as half empty instead of half full. :)

It's not about who's the popular one. it's about making a statement na kahit sino iharap sa knya eh lalabanan niya... 65-35 is just too much. (IMO atleast) it can only show how greedy PacMan had become throughout the years niya sa boxing... maybe it's because of the election is fast approaching.

Team Pacquiao may abandon Hatton fight

January 14, 2009 03:02:00

Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines—The impasse over the sharing of the fight purse has put the May 2 Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton showdown in Las Vegas in jeopardy.

The possibility of a cancellation surfaced Monday, after Pacquiao’s lawyer, Franklin Gacal, hinted that they will look for another opponent if the Filipino hero fails to get a 60 percent share for the fight.

The Hatton camp remains adamant of a 50-50 split, which it had verbally agreed to with Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank.

Gacal said Arum is aware of Pacquiao’s opposition to the terms.

“We have informed Bob Arum that we are not signing the contract,” Gacal said in an interview with ABS-CBN.

“Manny is not content with what was laid on the table. If the figures won’t move, we will look for another [challenger].”

Pacquiao is coming off the biggest victory of his career—an eighth-round technical knockout of Oscar De La Hoya, the sport’s biggest draw, last Dec. 6.

In giving his blessing to a 50-50 split, Arum attributed Hatton’s huge British fan following which he said would contribute heavily to fight revenues.

“We might do a million homes on pay-per-view in England,” Arum said. “You have to give Hatton some credit for what he brings to the table.”

“We already have a verbal agreement from Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum that it would be 50-50 split for the contest,” Hatton’s lawyer, Gareth Williams told the British newspaper Daily Telegraph.

The purse stalemate isn’t the first time a snag has hit the 140-lb battle. Hatton’s camp had earlier insisted on holding the fight at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Galit na si Arum at Roach sa mga bumubulong kay Pacquiao, 50-50 daw or No Fight. Napahiya na si Arum

And to make it even more difficult for the parties involved to find a win-win solution, Top Rank chief Bob Arum has told Pacquiao’s lawyer, Franklin Gacal, that he can’t do anything more to change the 50-50 sharing scheme that was imposed by Hatton and Golden Boy Promotions (GBP).

"He (Arum) can’t move the figures," Gacal said yesterday after a long-distance conversation with the Hall of Fame promoter.

Ganito kasi Yan. So trabaho ngayon ng promoter nya at mga negotiators to get the fight.

Syempre trabaho din ng mga negotiators nya to look after the best interest of their fighter. And manny has to take their word for it, thats what they are paid to do naman. To give good advices to him so he can make informed decisions. Pag Ok na ka manny eh di Go.

Ngayon pag pumalpak itong deal na ito. Isa lang ibig sabihin nyan. Palpak yung negotiating tactics ni Gacal, o kaya naman manny has been given a bad advice. In either way hindi kasalanan yan ni Manny. Kasalanan yan ng mga tatanga tangang adviser who can't negotiate properly.

Ang malaking tanong dito, tama ba yung negotiations na ginagawa and are they really giving pacquiao a good advice on this one. As of this point its too early to tell.

Like for instance si Winky Wright, hangang ngayon di makakuha ng laban.

Now I am worried because this was not the first time Manny has been given an ill advise. Noong 2 contracts napirmahan nya about his promoter, ang sabay turo siya sa abugado nya na me kasalanan. Which is totoo naman, kaya ka nga binabayaran para aralin mga kontrata pinapasok ng kliente mo. Ngayon if this is the same lawyer who will f#&k up this deal again, I just hope manny will have the good decency to fire his ass, or better yet give him a hook-uppercut combo.

GO PACMAN!!!

^^

Actually, after the fight with marquez, Manny was offered a guaranteed 6-million para lang sa immidiate rematch. But he instead chose to challenge David Diaz, at di hamak na mas mababa yung revenue nung fight na yun. So papanong sasabihin that he is just being greedy?

The real issue here is tama ba paraan ng pagnegotiate ng kampo ni Pacquiao? Kasi syempre he is getting advices from them.

Ngayon kung magaling yung negotiators nya at alam nila ginagawa nila, then dapat masara nila yung deal. Its just business.

Manny Pacquiao nears agreement to fight Ricky Hatton

9:38 AM, January 14, 2009

A day after negotiations appeared to be crumbling, Manny Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, just told me that Pacquiao's advisors are now "on board" with a 50-50 purse split with Ricky Hatton, and he expects that, "by tomorrow, I'll have a signed contract."

"There was a lot of confusion about why we did 50-50, but everyone now understands why this is a good deal," Arum said. "This thing is going to happen. Yesterday was disarray. Today, everything's back in order."

Arum said Pacquiao's retreat from a prior verbal agreement and push for a 60-40 percentage in his favor didn't account for the fact that he would receive half of the money coming from television rights in Britain, revenue that is greatly "attributable to Hatton," who hails from England, Arum said.

Hatton will also draw at least half of the live gate, Arum predicted, crediting Pacquiao for driving the U.S. pay-per-view sales.

Arum said Hatton's 2007 opponent, Floyd Mayweather Jr., didn't receive any British television money, and when he explained that to Pacquiao's attorney, Franklin Gacal, and the fighter's American and Philippine advisors, "everybody is now calmed down." Arum said he has received a thumbs-up from all three Pacquiao advisors to proceed for a 140-pound May 2 fight in Las Vegas that will match the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world against the charismatic Hatton, who has never lost at 140.

Pacquiao today is running a basketball tournament in the Philippines, but he's expected to sign the contract sometime Thursday -- much to the relief of Arum, Hatton and legions of boxing fans.

Well Ill respect your take on this, but do take note na kahit naman saang sport, the athlete who has wore winability gets to be paid more. Parang si Micheal Jordan, kung tutuusin dapat pare pareho lang siya ng sweldo kina rodman at pippen kasi its a team sport nga naman. pareho namang nakakahatak ng crowd si rodman at jordan nung nasa isang team sila. Pero in terms of skills and achievement malayo agwat nila so malayo din agwat ng sweldo nila.

Now para sa aking kahit maging 60-40 ang hatian nila in favor of Pacquiao, hatton wont exactly go empty handed surely he will make more in this fight than what he did in his last 2 fights. I mean Malinaggi is a bum. Nobody wanted to see this guy fight.

Gaya ng sinabi ko, Ideally his negotiators i.e. Atty. Gacal should look after the best interest ni Manny. And he intends to do so by promising manny that he can get a 60-40 deal. Lets just hope Gacal and his pose know what they are doing and that they can indeed pull this one off.

“Pacquiao is a great fighter, a great draw and is recognized as the pound-for-pound number one, but Hatton is also a unique fighter who will bring UK TV money, an army of British fans and so in terms of where the money will come from, Ricky Hatton is bringing the lion’s share.”

Williams pointed out that although Pacquiao is “massive in the Philippines, thousands of Filipinos aren’t going to travel to Las Vegas or pay to watch it on pay-per-view.”

Bottomline : Maraming perang dadalhin si Hatton kaya fair din yung hatian anyway nagkasundo na daw according to djrs
