dragonei
Well sa akin tama yung principle that Manny should indeed get the bigger cut of the revenue. I understand manny's position. Kaya nga you hire consultants so they can advice the decisions that you make about the deals you enter. So that they can do the negotiations properly. Hirap kasi when a boxer is getting bad advices by his entourage. But lets leave it up to them na lang. I hope in time manny will not hesitate to fire Gacal when he no longer serves his best interest. I mean Manny did fire his old promoter nung dinehado din siya sa hatian. Ngayon if Gacal will advise Manny na magmatigas sa 60-40 or hanap sila ng ibang makakalaban, sana nga meron silang mahanap na kasing lucrative din. good if mayweather will decide to come out of retirement and fight him. Quote Link to comment
GODzilla
Manny being the hero. Well do not get me wrong Im proud of every filipino who makes it big out there, and we should be proud of manny. But I am not going to support the move to declare a national holiday yung pag uwi nya. I will not wait under the scorching heat of the sun para lang makawayan siya. And sorry to say this folks I do not believe he can represent all of us filipinos out there. That is a major fallacy. Hindi lahat ng pilipino ay manny pacquiao, kundi ba why would we end up being where we are? What we are simply doing is that as a nation we are already riding on his coat tail. Did the italian-americans think they were the best because of rocky marciano? Did the mexicans think they were the best because of Julio Cesar Chavez? or the british because of Lennox Lewis? Hirap kasi sa atin kapag me pilipino na maututan ni Tom Cruise sa red carpet, automatic nasa front page na kaagad at lahat tayo maghuhumiyaw na angat ang pinoy sa buong mundo But please don't take what I said the wrong way. He indeed is an inspiration. The exception but not the rule. Quote Link to comment
jjpaler
Pac-man falls into the Oscar trap Beating Oscar De La Hoya will do wonders for a fighter’s career, but there often is a malaise that comes with a victory over the Golden Boy. De La Hoya has long been boxing’s most popular fighter and biggest attraction. Yet Felix Trinidad didn’t usurp him after his controversial 1999 win over De La Hoya in a battle between then unbeaten welterweight champions. Nor did Shane Mosley, who defeated De La Hoya twice. And one can almost guarantee that neither will Manny Pacquiao. That hasn’t stopped any of those men, though, from believing they’d inherited De La Hoya’s mantle as boxing’s biggest seller and making financial demands to boot. Pacquiao, whose dominant effort in an eighth-round stoppage of De La Hoya on May 6 made him a unanimous pick as the No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world in the Yahoo! Sports rankings, is the latest to fall victim to it. Promoters Bob Arum of Top Rank and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy had all but wrapped up a scintillating bout between Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton for May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. But Pacquiao, who is in the Philippines and hasn’t spoken to Arum, has begun to make noises about not taking the fight unless the purse split is made greater in his favor. Arum and Schaefer worked a 50-50 purse split, a reasonable deal given the huge money Hatton brings to the table from British television. But Pacquiao suddenly began saying he wouldn’t take the fight without at least a 60-40 edge in his favor. Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, was in an ornery mood on Thursday and not of a mind to speak much about Pacquiao’s reasoning. He reasons – and probably correctly so – that Pacquiao will ultimately realize he’s making a mistake and agree to the lucrative deal that was offered. It’s not as if Hatton has no other options, however, so there is some urgency for Arum to get Pacquiao’s signature on a contract. “I don’t know what the hell is going on with him, but it will get done, I guarantee you,” Arum said. “The only way it gets aborted is if Hatton gets tired of waiting and takes another deal.” Trinidad blew an eight-figure payday in 2000 when he declined to accept a rematch over his insistence that the deal terms be flipped from the first fight. Their 1999 fight set what was then a record for pay-per-view sales for a non-heavyweight bout, hitting 1.4 million, a figure that wasn’t surpassed until 2007, when De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather sold 2.4 million for their super welterweight bout. Mosley made a similar miscalculation when he turned down a third fight with De La Hoya. Pacquiao only need to look at those two men and the extraordinary amounts of money they let slither through their fingers because they reasoned that a win over De La Hoya made them as popular and big of an attraction as the Golden Boy. Pacquiao is one of the sport’s most popular fighters, but despite the one-sided victory he scored, he’s still not De La Hoya. The quicker he realizes that, the better it will be for boxing and, more importantly, his bottom line. Quote Link to comment

I think we are having a communication gap here. It is just me stating my opinion about Manny being treated as a hero. Wala naman akong intention to judge your character or malign it. Ang sinasabi ko, every filipino must have a national identity he can be proud of hindi yung iniaasa nya identity nya sa iba. O ayus ba? "Yes I know him, he is a great boxer and we are very proud of him." Pero hindi ng "Yes I know him, and I am proud myself because of him". I have a lot of respect for pacquiao, the only time I lost it was nung sumasaw siya sa kabulukan ng pulitika. But I do not doubt that this man is a great filipino, but filipinos are not great just because he is. He deserves all the credit he gets. and yes I do also think na mas malaki dapat hatian nila sa laban na ito. I just sometimes don't trust the people giving him advices, especially the people who advice him to enter politics. Oh well wait and see tayo Quote Link to comment
djrs
^^^Well Manny and his kids should be set for life sa laki ng mga kinita ngay sa mga laban nya at sa dami ng endorsements nya. When he retires wala na siya kelangan patunayan pa on and off the ring at least. In the mean time that he is at his prime, these are the following that he should never consider doing 1.) Gawing regular ang pagsusugal. Bangka lang ang siguradong panalo sa sugal. Kahit pa bilyones pera nya mauubos at mauubos din pera nya. 2.) Enter politics before he retiresMatalo pa siya ng sabay sa laban at sa election, siguradong kahiya hiya yun 3.) Fire Freddie Roach and Bubuy Fernandez as his trainersNakita naman siguro natin nangyari kay Tyson nung pinalitan nya corner men nya dahil sa kagustuhan ni Don King di ba? He made history by being the youngest heavyweight champion, he also made history by created the biggest upset in boxing history when he lost to buster douglas. Have you seen the size of this guy? He is so big he eats 3 kilos of meat a day. No wonder nasa 50-1 record nya Quote Link to comment

The_Blade
50-50?; 60-40?; 32-68? alam nyo ba ang ibig sabihin nyan? ano ba ibig sabihin ng 50-50? kapag 50-50 ang hatian ni pacman at hatton, ilan kay arum? ilan sa GB? ano ba ang gauranteed purse ng bawat isa? sa tingin ko si gacal ay mathematician, alam nya kung dehado o hindi si manny. it all boils down sa take home pay ni manny vs hatton. tama si manny there is no such thing as 50-50 on everything . never mangyari yun. kaya nga never mangyari ang fight na 50-50 share.
