The Peninsula's Lobby at 3 PM. The Mandarin's return to Ayala Triangle. The Manila Hotel's century-and-a-decade MacArthur Suite. Twenty properties — heritage, contemporary, integrated-resort, ultra-boutique — that constitute the affluent traveler's Metro Manila luxury hotel map. This is the curated hub. Why This List Exists Metro Manila's luxury hotel landscape has, in the last five years, undergone its most consequential reshaping since the 1976 opening of The Peninsula. Three major reasons: First, the openings. The Westin Manila opened in March 2023. Hotel Okura Manila in April 2022. Grand Hyatt Manila topped out in 2017 as the tallest building in the Philippines. The Lanson Place aparthotel landed at the Mall of Asia. And — most consequentially — Mandarin Oriental returns to Makati in December 2026, after a decade-long absence, on its original Ayala Triangle corner. Second, the closures and rebrandings. Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila closed July 1, 2024 after 48 years on Manila Bay. Resorts World Manila rebranded as Newport World Resorts. The hotel landscape that affluent Manila knew in 2020 is no longer the landscape of 2026. Third, the recognition. Discovery Primea was named Asia's Leading Business Hotel by the World Travel Awards 2025. The Farm at San Benito was named Best Medical Wellness Resort in the World by SENSES Germany. International luxury credentials are landing in Manila at an accelerating pace. This thread is the curated hub for the affluent Metro Manila luxury hotel category — the twenty properties that operate at the international five-star tier, organized by district, with links to each property's dedicated thread. The Curation Criteria The 20 properties listed here meet all three of the following: International luxury brand standard — operated by or branded as Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, Raffles, Shangri-La, Conrad, Fairmont, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Nobu, Okura, Westin, Dusit, Sofitel (legacy), or comparable Filipino-owned luxury (Discovery Primea, The Manila Hotel) — OR confirmed five-star equivalent at the upscale boutique tier (Lanson Place, Marco Polo). Metro Manila address — Makati, BGC, Ortigas/Mandaluyong, Newport/Pasay airport district, Entertainment City, Bay Area, Ermita. Operating at five-star scale — full-service luxury hotel program (multiple dining concepts, spa, pool, concierge, club floor where applicable), not boutique-budget or business-tier. Properties operating at lower tiers (4-star business, mid-luxury suites, budget) are covered in Hotel and Spa in Metro — the broader Metro Manila hotel discussion. How to Use This Thread For travelers planning a Manila stay: Click through to the property thread that matches your district and use case. Each child thread covers the property's accommodations, dining, spa, pool, getting there, when to stay, and current member reports. For affluent guests comparing options: The district groupings above are the practical comparison frame. Hotels in the same cluster are competing for similar business traveler / leisure / event bookings; hotels across clusters offer different value propositions (Makati = corporate-luxury heritage; BGC = vertical-luxury contemporary; Newport = NAIA convenience; Entertainment City = casino-resort). For Manila travelers building a multi-night itinerary: Mix districts deliberately. A Makati corporate weekday + Entertainment City weekend leisure produces a different stay than a Newport airport-anchored arrival + BGC city-luxury extension. The Manila Hotel (Ermita) + Conrad (Bay Area) sequence delivers a heritage-then-contemporary arc that's unmatched anywhere in Southeast Asia.
