  1. i wanna know how to fly a plane

    ***

    Reply:

You can! Start first with the computer flight simulator (di Ace Combat ha?). Except for the absence of external physical forces like drag, gravity, lift and thrust, it's as real as it gets in so far as manipulating the airplane and navigating are concerned. Flying airplanes is actually a lot more easier than learning how to drive a car.

  2. I wanna learn...

    1. How to play the drums, the guitar and the piano.

    2. How to drive a motorcycle.

    3. How to make programs and do hardcore computer stuff. Geeky but imagine the advantages. When my computer f*cks up, I don't have to send it to a technician for troubleshooting.

  3. Yup mas ok pa Palit kaysa sa Inno3D lalo na sa HSF. Inno3D bagay lang yan kung hindi ka ganung heavy gamer na matotorture card mo.

    @ Mig-29C

Instead of getting 2 7300GT and run it in SLI mode, I suggest getting a 7600GT instead . Mas malaki gagastusin mo kapag iSLI mo ang dalawang 7300GT kumapra sa isang 7600GT and hindi pa ganung problema sa power requirements. Unless lang kung habol mo ay multi view display ha. Yang 7600GT will be your gfx card that is something to hold you on. Kasi irerelease na po ang DX10 cards so buying a high end video card right now will be useless unless youre not planning to upgrade in the future.

So I suggest getting one Geforce 7600GT and buy a Geforce 8 card later on para ma utilize mo na yung DX10 feature ng FSX.

OT: FS Gamer ka ba? Mukhang parehas tayo ng hilig ah..

Thanks! Yeah, I guess I'll go for the 7600GT instead. By the way, how come the AGP versions are more expensive than the PCI-E? What's so special about them aside from the different slot dimensions? Also, most people like ATI. What gives?

Yeah, you're correct. Just like what my callsign and avatar sez, I'm into hardcore flight simulation stuff. The more realistic, the better. Kaya siguro di ako bumili nung Lock-On: Modern Air Combat because of the realism issue. I love Falcon 4.0 Allied Force better. Reading the 750-Page manual to learn about avionics, radar modes, fighter tactics and instrument approaches is well worth it. And on the Flight Simulator, nothing beats the satisfaction of bringing your Boeing 737 back in one piece after executing a perfect ILS Runway 06 Approach to RPLL in poor visibility and lousy weather. Hehe!

    Check Six!

  4. By the way, I'm looking for a good GPU because I'm gonna install Microsoft Flight Simulator X and run it with all the settings maxed out, with decent frame rates. Demanding kasi yung system requirements ng FSX. Instead of getting a GeForce 8000 Series, do you think a pair of GeForce 7300GTs (256MB 128-Bit) running on SLI mode would be enough for the job?

The rig I'm building will have the following specs:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Socket 939

    Asus A8N-SLI SE

    Kingston 1GB DDR2 RAM PC400

    Seagate 120GB HDD 7200RPM SATA

    Creative 24-Bit X-Fi Platinum

    _________ >>>> Video Card ????

Here's a screenshot of FSX to give you an idea of FSX and Direct X 10's power:

  5. Nice write-ups you got here. To those who are experiencing problems with their graphics cards, hope you could specify what brand of GPU you are using and maybe some details too about your setup/rig. This would be a great help to those of us who are planning to upgrade our video cards. That way, we all could avoid the lemons. Thanks! I'm planning to get one.

So which one would you recommend?

    BRANDS

    - Sapphire

    - Palit

    - Leadtek

    - PowerColor

    - Inno3D

    - MSI

    - ASUS

    - Foxconn

    CHIPSET

    ATI

    Nvidia

  6. This is not to generalize those who are good citizens with exceptional character but there are some rotten eggs who are:

    1. Tamad.

    2. Reklamador. They complain and yet they don't come up with permanent, long term solutions to deal with the problem. They put the blame on the government. If you think wala ka na hope here, find a job overseas and make a difference. Once stable ka na, you could always come back here and start a new, better life. Don't blame these trapos. Who voted them into power in the first place?

    3. Tax Evaders. Ang taong di nagbabayad ng buwis, walang karapatan mag-reklamo sa gobyerno.

    4. Ningas Kugon. Magaling lang sa umpisa.

    5. Manana Habit. Puro mamaya na. Di ba dapat "Do what you can do for today for tomorrow is another day"?

    6. I don't like those who pay bribes and grease money in order to facilitate a faster, trouble free transaction. Trabaho nila ang maglinkod sa publiko and mag-provide ng fast, efficient service. Kung walang naglalagay, walang nagpapalagay.

    7. Crab Mentality. Self explanatory.

    8. Yung mga wala or kulang sa disiplina. To quote BF... Urbanidad - Ang tama at wastong paguugali sa kalunsuran. Kung may pedestrian lane, doon lang dapat tumawid. Kung may pila, huwag sumingit and fall in line. Special consideration should only be accorded to elders, pregnant women, the differently abled. Obey traffic rules and regulations. Heck! If you've ever been to Subic, you'll know what I mean. If kaya nila, I don't see why the rest of the country can't do the same.

    9. Plastic.

    10. Social Climbers. Some would do practically anything and everything para lang masabi they're "in" or sosyal. Be real. It doesn't really matter if you're well-blessed or less fortunate. What you lack, it's gonna be compensated by something else. Associate yourself with people of high esteem and good reputation for it's better to be alone than be in bad company.

Before you start pointing at somebody else with an accusing finger, remember this - your other fingers are pointing toward you. So think about it.

  7. Sorry if this is a bit off topic.

My laptop got stolen yesterday and i was hoping if anyone here could help me find where stolen laptops usually end up. I really need the files in there, all my back-up files are also in my laptop bag. I'm desperate, my research data, my patient files and a lot of personal stuff were in there. It's a gray xitrix laptop, i'm sure not much of it is around and it already has cracks on it, so if anyone happens to see it around, It would really be appreciated.

Unless you're using a Mac, tracing your laptop would be like asking for the stars. With Macs, you could readily trace the unit's history thru its serial number. You'll know who bought it, when was it built, etc. In case it's stolen, simply report it and mercy on the soul of that thief who attempts to bring it to an Apple shop for repairs, mods, etc. He just signed his own death sentence.

  8. have you tried e-mailing ynzal? senco link? iStudio? longbeard?

i'm saving up for an MS Office for Mac (educ promo at Php 3,500) at ynzal.

was at senco and digital walker last week -- a mac lover's paradise on earth!

Yeah, I did. Haven't heard a word except from Longbeard. Which version? Yung 2004? Does MS Office for Mac require Rosetta? I'm not sure kung universal binary na yan, but I've heard some people say it slows down a bit with Rosetta running in the background. I'm thinking about checking out iWork '06. But I'd sure love to hear your feedbacks about MS Office for Mac. The first thing I'm gonna do when I'm back in Manila is visit the Mac shops! Hehe!

  9. Hi, UnprettyWoman... Haha! Yeah, you do have a point and I agree with that. However, I live in a place where the nearest reseller/service center for Macs is 450 Nautical Miles away. Badtrip 'no? I tried to e-mail some of the Mac distributors, resellers based in Manila for inquiries on made-for-Mac goodies, but none of them replied. I dunno if they're too busy making money or the staff is just plain and simple too tamad to take the time to reply. Bummer. For the meantime I'll be forced to adjust and adapt, make do with what's currently available here once my MacBook arrives. As much as I wanted to use OEM made-for-Mac gear, the local shops don't sell 'em here, but that's something Longbeard could easily fix. Hehe! Wish ko lang these 3rd party manufacturers would make peripherals that are multi-platform compatible. I'm sure the Linux users would also agree with me on this.

Switching to Macs is one of the best decisions I've made... buying and owning a Mac is like joining the Marines: THE FEW. THE PROUD.

Cheers! How come I rarely see you online lately? Busy with your studies huh? Thanks for the tips btw.

  10. hi MAC users,

I have a wireless Linksys router at home. Ever since my brother from US left, nobody's been using it. I don't have a laptop.

My question is, can a mac G4 or MacBook with WIFI detect the broadcast from the router?

I'm considering which laptops I should buy. Can I use a mac?

    thanks

    Wingwong

I haven't tried that personally, but I think this is possible if you configured your wireless network settings properly. The new MacBooks are WiFi A/B/G compatible. Another advantage is the fact that the newer Intel-powered Macs could now dual boot Mac OS X and Windows XP. That means you now have the option of using peripherals, network devices and accessories that were previously compatible only with Windows-based platforms. If you have an Intel-powered Mac with Boot Camp installed, just boot to Windows, install the correct drivers, configure 'em and you're good to go. Plus, most peripherals, network devices and accessories made for Windows-based platforms are usually more cheaper than their Mac counterparts. Yeah... El Cheapo here, I'm just being practical. If works, why not? My 2 cents.

  11. I was wondering if somebody every tried upgrading the MacBook's stock 512MB RAM to 1.2MB by replacing one of the factory 256MB sticks with a 1GB module? They say parang di raw maganda i-combine yung 2 RAMs made of different specs kasi di raw magiging optimum yung performance ng MacBook, thus you won't get the full benefit. How true? I might be misinformed on this one.

  12. 13.3-INCH 2.0GHz MACBOOK (MA255LL/A) - White Price : Php 70,000

    13.3-INCH 2.0GHz MACBOOK (MA472LL/A) - Black Price : Php 80,000

    from longbeard's thread at philmug

and he can send it to you directly according to a query made to him.

    :)

Thanks, UnprettyWoman. You're a big help! Does Mr. LongBeard have an e-mail or something? That way, I could forward all my queries to him without having to bug you. Hehe!

  13. Yung mga ganung problema siguro ang reason why my hubby ruled out the first revision ng mga macbook (which was quite cheaper compared to the T42p na binili nya) ... nakakapagtaka lang kasi other laptops of the same specs di naman ganun mag-init most probably kasi 1st-generation intel laptops ng apple... they always have that problem sa first gen products nila sabi nya.

Yes, Ma'am... You're correct in your observation. Me, I've long wanted to get the MacBook but after reading all those threads in the Mac forums about random shutdowns and thermal issues, I've decided to play the waiting game till Apple's got this thing fixed. We're talking about an expensive piece of equipment here. It should function flawlessly provided the user did his part. Let's see... they say Revision B is now on its way.

  14. Sobra mag-init pa rin ba yan? Yung macbook sa office ng hubby ko inaangat nga nila kasi ang bilis mag-init..

    May I also add something...

I guess this not only holds true with the Mac but also with the other brands as well. Apple just released Revision B for the MacBooks. This should fix not only the random shutdown problem but also the thermal problem issues as well. The MacBooks do get hot after running for a couple of hours, but so is the performance. Spec for spec and pound for pound, this laptop's one of the best buys in the market. You can buy a similar spec'd model from another brand, hurt your wallet to the tune of P89,000 or up and chances are, all you got is a basic laptop that lacks all the bells and whistles. No bluetooth, no DVD SuperDrive, no Wi-Fi, etc with possible exception to the recent releases by HP (take the DV1000 series for example).

Laptops, due to the nature of their compact design and weight restrictions don't have powerful fans and they have a less-efficient heatsinks compared to a desktop. The laptop's purpose is primarily for mobility - you can do work anywhere, anytime but with a tradeoff. At the expense of performance. With the Mac, you can have the best of both worlds and this once comes from someone who's been a Windows PC user for the past 12 years. Once you switch to a Mac, you'll probably never look back.

    Peace!

  15. longbeard of philmug sells them at Php 60,000 with the one year international warranty.

Wow! Any idea how much yung MacBook 2.0GHz, white version? How much additional if you'd like to have the RAM upgraded? 'Been contemlating about upgrading the RAM to 2.0GHz (2 x 1GB DDR2 667GHz SO-DIMMS), but I prefer getting a 3rd party memory module such as those from Kingston. I figured it's definitely much cheaper than buying those sticks from Apple Store and it works the same. Lastly, how long did you wait for the order to arrive? I'm checking my options.

  16. lemon or not, so long as you have your warranty from apple.com

how much will you be getting your macbook?

i hope it's not over 60,000 because that will be a rip off.

It's the 1.83GHz model. I'm not in Manila right now. The thing sells for around P66,000 here in Cagayan De Oro, thru a local reseller - in stock configuration. Comes with the standard 1 year warranty. The cheapest I've come across so far, considering that the average price of a similar model there in Manila goes for around P74,000 I think. I might be wrong, of course, since I got that price info thru T3 and PC Buyer's Guide magazine. Figured I sure could use the savings for a 2GB RAM upgrade.

  17. then i suggest you go for the freeware. for Office needs, they have Neo Office and Open Office. I agree that getting a licensed copy costs a leg and an arm.

    :(

Hello, UnprettyWoman. Yes, 'will check it out as soon as I get my hands on that MacBook. I'm a Mac Newbie/Switcher. Right now, I'm just planning my moves in order to make my Windows-to-OS X transition as trouble-free as possible. The good thing about those applications you mentioned is the fact that you could get a copy for free. Too bad, some apps I use at work runs only on WinXP and only a limited number were made for Mac. Right now, I'm just playing the waiting game. With all those glitches (random shutdowns, SuperDrive failure etc.) affecting the earlier production runs of the MacBook, there's the chance I'll get a lemon. I'll wait for RevB then I'll get my Mac.

  18. Since this thread's into Macs, I was wondering if you guys happen to know of any shop that installs universal and Intel-based Mac OS X Tiger-compatible applications like Parallels Desktop, MS-Office for Mac, iWork '06, Norton Anti-Virus 4.0 for Mac. Some of the apps that came pre-installed with the new Intel MacBook are mere trial editions. As much as I want to stay legit by getting a licensed copy, this is not feasible at the moment as the cost of acquiring the licensed installer is cost-prohibitive. Your feedbacks would certainly be of help.

  19. Anyone having problems with their Macbook?

My macbook is about a month old and the problem with it is it auto shuts off.

Does anyne have this weird experience?

Either it's the logic board or a heatsink problem. The initial batch of MacBooks had this problem and Apple finally acknowledge the prob. Take your Mac to an AppleCenter and have it checked. Stay safe.

  20. Puwede bang di car? If I can afford it, and if ever I'm lucky enough to find one, I'd rather have a WW-II vintage 1942 Model Willys Multi-Purpose 4x4 Jeep in fully restored mint condition. Puwede pang city driving and equally at home rin for off-road driving especially when travelling to the countryside. Low maintenance, tipid sa fuel and pangharabas. Some like the Humvee but it's too big to be of practical use when driving in a street like as narrow as ours. The Willys jeep suits me fine, practicality-wise.

  21. ATTN: PC Tech Gurus

I don't know if this is the right forum for this query but since we're into the topic of videocards, now more popularly known as "GPUs", I'd like to ask you for a second opinion. I am currently looking for a good Crossfire or SLI-Ready GPU with a PhP6000 butdget or so. What graphics card would you recommend and why?

I've tried the Nvidias before but I' planning to give ATI a shot this time. Any suggestions?

  22. I both play the Console and the PC. Both has its PROS and CONS. I'm a racing and military simulation gamer. On the PS2 I love playing Gran Turismo 4, SOCOM 3, Splinter Cell and the SWAT series. I'm into games that feature ultra-realistic physics, realistic weapons that do realistic damage just like what they'd do in the real world. No magics and stuff, no 1-UPs and no infinite lives. I like games that make me think and analyze. Occationally when like to just run and gun... I play Counter-Strike.

On the PC platform, you'll likely see me playing Falcon 4.0 (F-16 Simulator), Tank Platoon II (M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank Simulator), AH-64D Longbow (Helicopter Combat Flight Sim), Silent Hunter III (a German U-Boat sim), Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 (General Aviation/Civilil Aviation Flight Sim), Jane's F-18E Super Hornet (F-18 and Naval Aviation Combat Flight Sim), lastly Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and Full Spectrum Warrior series (all first-person tactical shooter and military simulation games).

I'm a stickler for detail. I don't mind reading manuals, I do learn a lot of new things as I read them. Once I'm done with the reading, whatever success I had in the middle of the game, I'd say it's all worth it.

Nothing beats the satisfaction of scoring a gun or missile k*ll as you turn and burn with a MiG-21 over the skies of North Korea. Nothing beats the satisfaction of killing a Soviet T-90 MBT 3000 meters away with a well-placed 120mm HEAT or SABOT round, as you push towards your designated phaseline in an M1A2 Abrams MBT during a night action somewhere in Eastern Europe. Nothing beats the sound of a torpedo impact followed up by the noise of twisted metal that was once a British Destroyer as you listen thru your U-Boat's passive SONAR. Nothing beats mixing it up in a Zero A6M2 with a bunch of F4F Wildcats during the Battle of Coral Sea. Nothing beats the sound of a satisfying thud as you gently touch down on the threshold just minutes after executing a perfect ILS Runway 06 Approach in bad weather. Nothing beats putting a souped up Honda Integra Type R thru its phases as you negotiate the twists and turns while enjoying the view of Nurburgring, screaming at 140mph. Nothing beats the sight of seeing a tango's head blown to eternity with a well-placed 7.62mm round from your M21 Sniper Weapon System as you cover your SEAL Team buddies on their way to the extraction point after a successful op. Lastly, nothing beats the satisfying sound of hearing the tailhook snag the No. 3 wire as you scream past the carrier deck in an F-14 Tomcat or an F-18E Super Hornet at over 170mph then screetch to a halt in 3 seconds after executing a textbook carrier night trap. It's not all about the kills and the violence. It's all about the thrill and the satisfaction of knowing you're good. That you did it by the numbers and got it right. With simulation games, you can be all you can be... a U-Boat sub commander, a hot shot fighter pilot or a bad-ass Navy SEAL.

Video games will come and go. The PCs and Consoles of today will eventually be replaced with better ones that are the cutting edge of technology. However, one thing is certain... I had a ball and I won't have it any other way.

Have fun and enjoy the game!

  23. 1983 first time ko makahawak ng computer, guess what Apple II pa yon

Yeah, you're correct. While it's true there are also viruses that attack the Mac, they're more of a commonplace in the Windows world because these viruses, worms and trojans were made to attack computers running on a Windows-based platform. Most of these viruses were usually spread thru MS-Office documents like Word, PowerPoint and Excel files. I once checked out some link and online research led me to the following infos:

    1. There are 71,000 worms, trojans and viruses out there waiting for you if you're a Windows PC user.

    2. There are 671 worms, trojans and viruses that specifically target Macs.

These figures may change as time goes but I'd say a 671 : 71,000 ratio in favor of the Mac is still a good batting average. I'll be making the big switch to Mac OS X Tiger soon and will be buying a MacBook 2.0GHz. Since I'll be using Windows XP occasionally (thru Boot Camp and Parallels Desktop) to run some Windows-based applications that are inexistent in the Mac, I figured it might be a great idea to install Norton Anti-Virus 10.0 (for Mac OS X) for good measure. Better safe than sorry.

  24. I've been a PC user (WINTEL Platform) for the past few years. I've been contemplating an upgrade lately - time to replace my old Pentium III 500MHz / Windows 98SE rig with a new one to keep up with the higher system requirements of newer applications that I use in Medical Transcription work. My initial choice wass to build my own rig based on an AMD Athlon 64-Bit platform but I also realized the advantages of having a notebook computer: portability, productivity - I can work anywhere I want.

Since I do PC gaming occasionally, my hardware requirements include a fast Dual Core mobile processor with at least 1GB of DDR2 memory. HP's Pavilion DV1000t Series notebook (www.hp.com) got my nod initially.

What made me decide to make the big switch to Mac is their new wonder - the Intel Core Duo 2.0GHz powered MacBook (www.apple.com). Yep, you got it right! This baby's now powered by an Intel processor... and with the Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger OS, it means it's now 5x faster than your iBook G4. Throw in a built-in iSight camera with mic, a built-in 8x DVD SuperDrive (CD/DVD-RW), Built-in WiFi & Bluetooth with LAN and an optional 56K USB 2.0 modem and you're good to go!

To put the icing on the cake, these MacBooks could now run Windows XP or Windows 98SE, even Linux too thru applications like the Boot Camp and Parallels Desktop for Mac. For me, this is great news.

All for the price of P70,000-P96,000 depending on specs (processor, RAM and color). You can get a similar-spec'd Windows notebook like the Sony VAIO, NEC, Dell or IBM but it will hurt your wallet to the tune of P150,000. So it's no longer a question of which one is better - Mac or Windows. Now, the question is... BLACK or WHITE?
