Modern place but the people, especially those from the rurals and the older gens, are still yet to keep up in terms of etiquette and manners. I've been to several HSR stations and singitan sa pila is a very common practice. Everyone talks loudly kahit sa loob ng tren. Yung iba naka loudspeaker ang phone despite the constant paninita ng stewards sa loob. Pinakamalala is yung dumadahak kahit saan. I've tried all classes of seats. Syempre yung business class ang pinakamaayos kasi aapat lang kayo sa loob and most of the time, expats or mga boss ng kompanya kasabay mo. Of course, price is up to thrice the normal. Second class is the worst. Andun lahat ng ingay, amoy at siksikan.
One more turnoff is the smoking culture. Literal na kahit saan, kahit sa tabi pa yan ng NO SMOKING sign o kahit sa loob ng hotel room. They will just smoke everywhere, maliban na lang sa loob ng public vehicles and museums.
Di rin expat friendly, except sa major cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, and Guangzhou. I've experienced locals trying to get pictures with me dahil isa akong balbas saradong Pinoy na naglalakad lang, and bihira silang makakita ng di kagaya sa kanila na itsura.
Prostitution, once ko lang naranasan. Pero hindi sa major city, kundi sa Shantou in Chaoshan area of Guangdong province. Went up a building tapos pasok sa kwarto. Showup ang girls then ikaw mamili. If wala kang choice, another set of girls will be called for you until may mapili ka. Didn't know how much kasi nilibre lang ako. Chose a boobsy girl with natural pairs. Mind you, talamak din ang cosmetic surgery lalo na pag mga nagtatrabaho as escorts, KTV GROs, or plain whores. Service was okay, notable acts were shower action, rimming, BBBJ. I didn't bother DFK and DATYing her though. Language barrier is a challenge as I can only speak a handful of Mandarin and majority of people don't speak English everywhere in China.
Aside from that, puro massage with HJ lang yung iba kong sexytime experience doon. Gone are the glory days of cities like Dongguan 20 years ago where this kind of bisyo was cheap and highly encouraged.
Having said all that, one thing is for sure, all Chinese in the mainland will obey the law 99 percent of the time. Napakababa ng crime rate and CCTV everywhere. People are afraid to be jailed as that will mean lost time and lost opportunity to earn for them. Kaya yung mga loko loking Intsik, lumuluwas sa Myanmar, Thailand, at Pinas para doon maghasik ng lagim.
