  1. I generally like the Honda brand. They make very nice cars. As for Toyota, all their cars are OK except for the Vios. Anemic engine, poor fuel efficiency, parang lata katawan & for me, ang pangit ng design. Kaya mabenta kasi entry level car at nadadala lang ng popularity ng Toyota brand.

  2. If your route takes you on long drives, diesel is the better choice. For normal city routes, with lots of short routes, stop & go traffic, the better choice is gasoline. With diesel cars, you have to wait a few seconds for the oil to circulate before driving off & wait a minute or more before shutting down. Try doing that on frequent short routes. Diesels also do not do well idling long during traffic, with all the carbon accumulating. You have to take your car out on a long spin once in a while. For reference, my diesel car travels approx. 600+ kms a week for a total of 24 hrs driving time. Sometimes, it does 700. What is your milege for an accumulated 24 hrs?

  3. Guys, please help. I'm a soon-to-be first time car owner. Need help on deciding which car to buy -

    Suzuki Ertiga

    Toyota Avanza

    Hyundai Tucson

    TIA!

Among your three choices, I’d go for the Tucson. The Ertiga & the Avanza are both in the same class, both as Asian Utility Vehicles while the Tucson is a SUV. When buying cars where I have to spend a lot of money on, I’d rather buy a car I am really happy with. Yung Ertiga & Avanza are so plain looking, walang ka-porma porma. It is too utilitarian for my taste, too practical. The Tucson, on the other hand, is quite popular & you can see by the growing number in the streets. If you can afford it, go fot the diesel version. Makes a hell lot of difference. Hope this helps.
  4. When you are stuck in heavy traffic specially here in the metro your car or motorcycle engine is still running and it doesn't add to your mileage.. so always change the oil earlier than the recommended mileage ^_^

wag po natin tipirin ang engine oil yan lang po ang buhay ng mga sasakyan natin. ;)

    always be safe :)

You are so right with this one. Many people do not realize that engine mileage is increased when stuck in traffic. This would qualify under harsh driving conditions in the car owners manual. As I recall, if using a non syn oil & driving under hharsh conditions, it is better to change at 3k kms. I might also add that it is also very important to use the best quality oil filters rather than replacement ones.
  5. Basta sa engine oil, important ang ilagay ang recommended oils sa car manual. Sundin rin ang recommended oil change interval. Pagkaka mineral, every 3-5k, pag semi-synthetic, every 7.5k at pagka fully synth every 10k ang standard rule at may differ among manufacturers.

  6. My favorites are my Levi's 501's rigid (raw) denims which I wore everyday except Sundays for more than 5 months until they became sticky, dirty & smelly. I got really good fades out of it. Next was a pair of Rigid 505's which I wore for 4 months. I hand wash my jeans in Perwoll black only. My favorite now is a pair ofof regular Uniqlo selvedge jeans for their fit & deep blue color (also because of the selvedge). On my wish list is a pair of Pure Blue Japan or Samurai jeans & Indonesian jeans, all selvedge of course.

  7. 1. Change your air filter every 10,000, your fuel filter every 20,000

    2. Use synthetic motor oil of the right grade for our country. Synthetics are more temperature stable than mineral based oils.

    3. Avoid traffic. My normal fc (car computer) is 18km/lit with mostly highway & moderate city traffic. With heavy traffic, that goes down to 12/lit or less.

    4. Maintain a steady pace, 80-90 km/hr if you can (I can't, boring). Keep rpms low.

    5. Accelerate when approaching an incline & decelerate when approaching a decline.

    6. Coast in gear at high gear when on a decline (coasting in neutral is not safe).

    5. In the mornings when motor is cold, the car consumes more fuel (mine at startup gets 56l/100kms or 1.7 km/lit kasi naka choke. It rapidly declines as it warms up)

    6. Do not idle excessively. Tell your driver not to sleep in the car with the aircon on.

  8. how to save money when changing oil:

    1) know the engine oil API grade specified to your engine. If its says CH then compare the price of all API CH rated oils you can choose from. then choose the lowest.

    2) Buying a higher rated oil than the one specified to your engine is a waste of money.

    3) synthetic oils are better than regular mineral oils because they resist molecular "breakdown" and protect longer than mineral based oils. this said ... you may opt to extend the change oil interval at least twice ( from 5k to 10 k).if you use synthetic oil and still change every 5 k ... its a waste of money.

when i was with shell ...i put in synthetic oil into my car. prior to changing oil ... i had a small oil sample drawn from my engine regularly ( adding in an equal amt into the engine of course to maintain the reco oil levels ). I had the oil samples tested in the shell labs to see if the oil still "worked". to make the long story short ... the single synthetic oil change lasted me for 20,000 km before the lab advised me to have it replaced.

    4) DO NOT USE ADDITIVES. engine oils are alredy formulated to provide the optimum engine protection. additives change the oil's formulation ... which may actually lead to LESS protection for your engine.

    hope this helps :-)

Would you agree that with API rating of CI-4, you can do a 10k change oil interval for mineral, semi-synth & fully synth oils?
