  1. Have you actually used Leopard?

Or are you aping what you have read somewhere? Or are you just forming an opinion based on perception?

Ah, no let me guess... you are omniscient.

I spent an entire afternoon in the 5th Ave Apple store trying out Leopard yesterday. Yes, one afternoon is enough time to try out the new things Leopard has to offer as there are not that many to begin with! I didn't see anything in there that'd necessitate me to part with $130. I'm gonna wait till OS11 thank you. Apple has ran out of kittie names, what's next? Liger?

  2. Leopard is a joke! Its nothing more but a bunch of petty interface enhancements. Time Machine? Please! It's called "taking care of your computer in the first place, and not be such a buffoon that you delete your own files".

Before you call the fanboy police on me, I use both a desktop PC and a MacBook. I have no trouble using whatever tool is best suited no matter what brand it may be.

  3. Fit should be your first concern especially if you're looking for earphones or IEMs (in-ear monitors). It's more of an issue with IEMs because if you can't get a good fit and seal, they won't sound their best.

Sadly there's no such thing as a "standard" ear. For the longest time I've avoided earphones because I know they never fit in my ears properly without pain.

The new IEMs are making me think differently though. I managed to fit demo units of the Shure E2c and E4c and they fit me very well! They're VERY expensive though...the cheapest of the line (E2c) costs PhP4500, and the price climbs to a peak of PhP14500 :(

You're right. A lot of people complain of weak bass when their problem really is that they're not wearing the headphones properly. The rubber, foam, or whateveritis must have a tight seal around the ear canal.

Btw, they let you fit IEMs in the store? Gross.

  4. Typically, carriers offer subsidized pricing for phones phones which are locked to them. They'll sell you a phone for a deep discount (or even free in some cases) in exchange that you'll subscribe to their service for two years or so. The iPhone is an exception, it's locked and its price tag (or part of it at least) isn't even subsidized by AT&T! The French were right to demand that Apple sell unlocked iPhones, but I don't see why they sell them there at a comparatively higher price. The rate they charge in the US is already unsubsidized, how they can sell it for an even higher price baffles me.

  5. Yup. Updating an unlocked and jailbreaked device will cause a re-lock.

Whether locked or unlocked, I think everyone should just avoid the 1.1.1 update altogether. My Safari browser crashes often rendering it basically useless. I'm hoping that the next firmware upgrade fixes that issue.

Good news though is that Apple has finally announced an SDK for the iPhone due this February!

  6. ^^ Just to clarify your point a bit. iTunes doesn't have anything to do with AT&T, nor do you need an account with AT&T in order to use iTunes. It is the iPhone that requires an AT&T subscription, not iTunes.

And yes, you can decline any updates and still sync data between iTunes and the iPhone as usual. If you've managed to successfully unlock an iPhone, you can use it on any carrier's SIM card and still be able to sync data. I made the mistake of upgrading from 1.0.2 (older but stable firmware) to 1.1.1 (current version, real buggy!) and now my Safari can't survive 10 minutes without crashing!

HowardForums has an entire section dedicated to unlocking and hacking. I suggest reading up on it. Goodluck!

  7. Finally took the plunge and got myself an iPhone! AT&T's EDGE is painfully slow, but still usable. It's kinda like surfing on prepaid dial-up on a rainy day. I'm in a WI-FI area 80% of the time anyway so it doesn't really bother me as much. My biggest gripe with it though is the typing method, I don't think i'll ever get used to it. To make things worse, it automatically spell checks every word you type in, even though when it's not in English! Other than that, i think the phone is perfect.

  8. looking for a nice digital SLR that can cope with low light and action shots. Would like to use it to shoot indoor sporting events wherein the spectators do not appreciate that i use a flash... any particular D SLR for this specialty?

    Thanks in advance.

Almost all of the new DSLRs these days perform well in low lighting conditions, and give relatively low noise when higher ISOs are used. What you really need, above all, is a fast lens. Both Nikon and Canon offer 50mm f/1.8 lenses at an affordable price ($100). Nikon also has a 180mm f/2.8 for around $300.

  9. mga sir's..

ano pong best na SLR camera marerecommend nyo na bilin?

    thanks

The quickest answer would be "Whatever you could afford". Different models across different brands in any given price point perform similarly more or less that it almost doesn't matter which brand you choose.

So just buy whatever camera fits your budget. Choosing one DSLR body over another hardly makes a difference on the outcome of your images. Lenses however are a different topic altogether.

  10. a friend of mine told me that for non professional photographers (like me), 4 MP is the best - that anything beyond 4MP is overdoing it - is this true?

For the most part, yes. Larger megapixels dictate only how large a print you can get. Unless you shoot for the primary reason of making large prints, you really don't need a high MP camera. Then again, even the cheapest of cameras are at least 5 megapixels these days so it's not really an issue anymore.

I've been shooting with a, believe it or not, 2.7 megapixel camera for over 4 years now. A Nikon D1H. Which coincidentally, i'm currently selling. (Shameless eBay plug follows below)

  11. The web browser on my old Nokia E70 is actually similar to what Safari on the iPhone does wherein it doesn't cramp the entire web page into one screen and rather just letting the user zoom in. But you're right, that gorgeous huge screen is second to none. I never fail to stop and try out an iPhone whenever I'm near an AT&T or Apple store. I'm now actually 80% convinced of getting an iPhone for myself this Christmas. The other 20% that's preventing me from getting one right away is the fact that I've lock myself into a 2 year contract with AT&T :thumbsdownsmiley: (T-Mobile is leaps and bounds better)

  12. I got to play around with an iPhone at a local AT&T store not too long ago. My overall impression with the device is similar to what most people here think, that it's actually a whole lot of NOTHING. The only feature that I could say that is actually useful is the Safari browser. I could imagine myself using that plenty of times if I got an iPhone. Google maps could be better if the iPhone had GPS built-in, but of course it doesn't. Okay, it is decent at playing video because of that large 3.5" display, but it is MEDIOCRE at everything else.

Typing with the touchscreen doesn't work pretty well. I end up pressing the wrong letters because the keys on the on-screen keyboard aren't spaced far enough, and of course you get ZERO tactile feedback. And when you do try to type fast, the software has trouble catching up and there's a delay between what key you're actually pressing to what is still being displayed on the screen.

Personally, my biggest deterrent of getting an iPhone is it's cost. Never mind the cost of the actual unit, but the cheapest plan that AT&T has for the iPhone costs $60, compare that to $40/month one would normally spend on other phones.

  13. I got Guitar Hero II for the Xbox360 just this past weekend! I'm so addicted to it already that I've actually stopped playing Forza Motorsport 2 (another game i'm addicted to).

  14. Help again!!!

    Re: x1950 pro 512 mb

I read over the net that this card is a 'mid-high' card. Does this mean that I can play games up to 1024x768 only?

I tried playing it at 1280x1080 and it works, but will it shorten the life of my video card if I ALWAYS play games at 1280x1080 with all settings set on high? Thanks.

Depends on which games you play. To a video card, F.E.A.R. at 1280x1080 is not the same as Counter Strike at the same resolution. As long as you've adequate cooling, you can set it as high as it can go, and not worry about frying your card.

Overclocking though, definitely will have an effect on its lifespan, and not to mention void any warranties.

  15. Try this..
