  1. I've a ThinkPad T61p with a gorgeous 15" WUXGA (1920x1200) screen and a screaming 120Gb SSD drive. Even though it's over two years old already, it can still run circles around newer laptops.

  2. My friend lent her Dell Latitude pentium 4 laptop because she just acquired a Compaq Presario. My problem is when it is on AC Power LCD display is dim. However, if I pulled off AC and it runs on battery, the display brightens. Anybody can help? PLEASE. She told me it is not like that previously before somebody borrowed it for one week and upon return, it became just. I already fidgeted with different settings on power management and so forth . . . TIA

Most laptops come with software which allows for different power settings if running off AC or battery power. It sounds like the laptop is set to max brightness when on the battery, and on dim settings when on AC - which is weird, because the opposite would make more sense as to maximize battery life.

  3. I just got this in the mail yesterday. It's a wireless flash trigger, the Cactus V2s - aka the eBay trigger.

  4. Yun a470 ko nag lolobat pag energizer batteries

I had the same problem with my A570. I'd get a "low battery" warning even with newly recharged batteries. I think it's an inherent problem with A series cameras. What you need are "low discharge" type batteries like the Sanyo Eneloop [LINK]. I've been using the same set of Eneloops on my camera for almost a month now, and I've yet to see the low battery warning!

EDIT: Find out more about this battery issue and low discharge batteries in this forum: [LINK]

  5. sony mdr v700

The V700 sounds great, but only while they last! They're surprisingly delicate for what are supposed to be DJ headphones. As you can see in the pictures, my pair 3-year old pair of V700's have seen better days. The hinges on the swivel mechanism have broken, and are now only held together with super glue and zip ties.

The foam padding has now gone flat, and no longer offer cushion. The black resin has also started to chip off. They're actually pretty uncomfortable to wear now.

    Try the MDR7506 instead! [LINK]

    ok thanks!!

i'll check this one out..

Try both at the store if they allow you. Let me know what you've come up with!

  6. Just to add. As with all headphones, it's always best to take a break as soon as your ears start to ring, or if you start to feel discomfort. You don't want your next headphones to be hearing aides!

  7. am planning to buy this one too.. cost 8,900Php at PowerMac Center..

anyways any recommendations on other brands i should consider before i shell out for this headset?

don't want to buy earplugs due to some long-term hearing effects

The Sennheiser PXC 300 [LINK] is pretty good too, about the same price as the TriPort. I was able to try a pair out at a store, and its noise cancelling capability is comparable to that of the much more expensive Bose QC headphones. The TriPort isn't noise cancelling, but it does a good job at isolating background noise even at moderate volume.

  8. I got this Bose TriPort headphones for my birthday not too long ago. They're plenty comfortable, and sound quality is right where it should be for a pair of $160 headphones. Though I would've gotten a noise-canceling Sony MDR-NC60 if I was given cash! Still, I can't complain. Build quality seems to be a lot better now than the previous generation (over ear) TriPort which was notorious for cracking/breaking.

  9. Actually, the data and the system exists for Metro Manila—in a manner of speaking. The entire city is fully mapped in software under SCATS (Sydney Coordinative Automatict Traffic System) which was supplied by Plessey of Australia to the MDA under a US$120M grant. I know this because I was trying to buy access to the materials under Abalos but he wanted an unconsionable amount just to say hello.

The entire city has embedded sensors in all major and most seocndary thoroughfares which are sophisticated enought to detect multi axle vehicles, and monitor avergae road speed in real time. For some reason, they did not want to use it because it highlights too much how bad traffic management is and also because the traffic aides were complaining about being made redundant. they also like to turn off traffic signals and manual hand waving.

But to not be OT, the best thing that a 3G iPhone can do is offer a faster connection. Have any of you guys ever felt the diff between HSDPA and GPRS speeds? Its like DSL vs dial-up.

The other thing you cannot do in the old iphone is exchange support. In the 3G iphone you are setup for push services-somethign that only the Blackberry had. How significant is that?

Has anyone ever seen the SDK for iPhone 2.0? No? then you have little idea of the potential of this phone.

Has anyone every watched the WWDC keynote? No? Then armchair analysis may be based on deficient information.

SCATS? Never heard of it. I stand corrected then. But then again, you do not have to go as exotic as SCATS for Manila map data. I've just found out that Garmin does have maps for Manila for its receivers, and so does this website.

Speaking of Scat - the rest of what you said however is full of exactly that. The first generation iPhone WILL HAVE SUPPORT FOR MS EXCHANGE once the 2.0 firmware comes out. It's this new software that will bring Exchange capabilities - NOT 3G. Yes, I've watched last week's keynote. But have you also seen the other keynote from last January's Macworld? In it, Jobs announces Exchange support and the new 2.0 software for the then current generation iPhone - 6 whole months before the announcement of the 3G iPhone.

Also. The iPhone at its current form already does have push email via through IMAP. If you've actually owned an iPhone, you'll probably know that by now.

  10. Im aware of iPhone OS 2.0, what i meant was there should be a "premium" (apps, service, whatever) that will delineate (3G & HSPDA is a given) the 1st Gen iphone from a 3G iphone user..

Aside from 3G, the only thing that the 3G iPhone can do that the first generation iPhone cannot is GPS navigation. Then again, some enterprising individuals have been developing GPS dongles for use with the first generation iPhone. Aside from the two hardware differences (3G and GPS), the new 2.0 software will make the old iPhone as functional as the newer one will be.

I will be curious to see how the GPS and Google Maps on the iPhone will be implemented in the Philippines. Users in the US and Europe will be able to fully utilize the iPhone's GPS capability thanks to comprehensive GPS road data that's already available. Same cannot be said for Manila. If you look at Manila in Google Maps, only the most major of roads such as EDSA are present. What good is GPS if you don't have road data to use it with?

  11. Dropped by the local Guitar Center yesterday to pay a visit to an old friend:

Also, John Petrucci is going to make an appearance at the store next Saturday. He's of course going to talk about his music, do some demo runs, and talk about his Music Man line of guitars (an Ernie Ball sponsored even apparently). I'm going to post pictures and maybe even a video or two if end up going.

  12. I kinda figured out how to transfer music into my IPhone... just have to create a playlist...

though it takes quite some time though but it's all good...

fry would u think its possible for me to install ym in my IPhone?

Simply head to meebo.com from your Safari browser. Yahoo hasn't released YM for the iPhone yet, though we'll most likely see it once the 2.0 software rolls out. There are also a few IM apps found within Installer such as Apollo and Mobile Chat that feature MSN, ICQ, Google Talk, etc.

  13. Bro, i havent tried yet in transferring MP3's into my bro's iPhone which could result in the locking of his phone, unlike in my iPod Nano..i have no fears of device locks

You may ask fry for his advice :)

Transferring music to your iPhone does not re-lock it! The only way for your jailbreak and unlock to stop functioning is if you restore and/or upgrade its firmware. So go ahead. Sync up, and enjoy your music in your iPhone!

  14. I hope not...if Globe does carry the 2ng Gen iPod...i guess there will be a drastic price cut in the 1st Gen iphone..much more than the cut Apple made in the US....

Unless iPhone OS 2.0 is released to prevent such "depreciation"

I think it's almost certain that the Philippines will have the 3G version. It's not Apple's tradition to keep on with the predecessor long after the succeeding version has already been released. In fact, Apple is no longer replenishing stocks of the current gen. iPhone - a very good indicator that the next generation iPhone is just around the corner.

  15. what's the latest on the IPhone?

heard that they may be releasing the 32GB 3G version by June... how true is this?

There are lots of rumors surrounding the next generation iPhone - which one is true, no one knows. What is more concrete though is when it may be announced or released. June is when the version 2.0 software will be released, and it's likely we'll see the next generation iPhone to be out right around the same time as well.

  16. Some of my few fave apps - iFlix (Netflix queue manager), Meebo, Colloquy (IRC Client)
