simplyeric
Greetings! May tanong lang ako sa linux and i have searched all available forums i can find sa internet so dito sana may makasagot sa akin. im not very familiar sa linux but im willing to learn background: i have installed backtrack linux 32bit sa laptop ko acer aspire. the setup as a whole works fine at nakakapag connect sa linksys router namin sa bahay at ok din siya kapag sa ibang wifi like starbucks. the problem is, i also have a Sun cellular pocket wifi huawei post paid. kapag kinoconnect ko ang laptop sa pocket wifi, sinasabi "cannot assign IP address" . pero ang smart phone ko, at yung mismong laptop ko na naka boot sa windows (pwede kong i switch sa Linux at windows) nakakapag connect ng normal sa pocket wifi the laptop internet setting ay naka automatically connect pero ayaw pa rin mag connect. sinubukan kong mag set ng ip address na malapit sa ip ng pocket wifi, ayaw pa rin. i have connected the pocket wifi through USB connection, i have installed the built in software from SUN, pero ayaw pa rin. kahit mag search ng network hindi nag search (parang walang SUN signal). Sun cellular program daw is not compatible with linux. pero pwede daw as per the internet i have searched the internet and i have found out na pocket wifi's dapat mag switch from a USB stick mode, into a modem para makapag connect sa internet. ang nangyayari daw ay kapag linux, hindi nag switch sa modem, laging naka stuck sa memory stick mode kaya nag install ako ng linux program na mode_switch which does exactly that.siya yung nag switch from usb stick mode into a modem, pero ayaw pa rin mag internet i have used the lsusb command para ma check kung nakikita ang usb ng computer, nakikita naman, nabubuksan ko pa nga sa backtrack program ko yung loob. the problem i think ay hindi nag switch sa modem mode any help? simplyeric
Hello Bro, Do you still experience any issue with this? baka sa SSID. Anyway, can try issuing the following commands and post the results here? ifconfigiwconfig sinubukan ko na dati yung iconfig at yung iwconfig nakikita naman ang wifi modem ko through usb. kaso ang sa tingin ko ay hindi pa rin nito mai-switch from a usb memory device into a modem. i tried downloading a third party program to switch it from a usb memory device into a modem kaso wala pa ring nangyarimy next step siguro is using WINE. tama ba ang thinking ko na kaya nitong i emulate ang windows (since windows based ang program ng sun cellular) into a linux OS. meron kasing built in WINE program. kaso i dont know how to use WINE. any instructions kung paano? konting additional lang, i have successfully connected the linux laptop sa wifi sun broadband ko. tinkering lang sa settings na IP (dati kasi ginawa ko ito, ayaw gumana, minulto yata) pero ang gusto ko kasi ay straight from the wire kasi mas mabilis ang connection pag ganun. jolibe
what linux os for newbie? I would suggest Ubuntu. Some did prefer Arch but I haven't tried that. Quote Link to comment
Pluralpenguin
what linux os for newbie?Go for CentOS if you can't get your hands on RHEL. Closest version to redhat (just reskinned). Redhat is the standard in most large enterprises, in case you're looking to get a job in Linux. Quote Link to comment
Google
what linux os for newbie?you can also try Linux Mint. Quote Link to comment
nwebe
what linux os for newbie? Ubuntu or Fedora would be your best bet for introducing a newbie to linux. Quote Link to comment
J E R R Y
You may try Ubuntu, Fedora or Mint.. Any of them would be best for starting with Linux. Just don't install the latest version as it has still many bugs and/or issues. Quote Link to comment
K0RN - RETIR3D
Just saw this thread (sa wakas!). If you want to play which version of Linux OS is for you, its best to install a Virtual Machine. Quote Link to comment
