bonjing
Good Morning! Just my own 2 centavos worth, as a layman (di po ako doctor). I experienced a mild heart attack last year (april 19 to be exact). after that I followed the doctors orders of diet and no smoking (the latter part, am still trying to quit). After researching the internet this is what I found out. High BP is caused by a number of factors:1. plaque buildup on the arteries2. genetics - due to constricting of arteries or minor flexibility of arteries (the ability of the arteries to expand and contract). Don't have an answer for this one. For number 1, what i do is to make sure that fiber is included in my diet (daily). Whatever you eat, there will always be a fat content. Obviously pork and red meat has the highest. As food is processed in the body, the body breaks down this fat. As it passes through your intestines, the fat gets lodged sa mga singit-singit ng instestines mo, which in turn get absorbed by the body sooner or later. As I understand it (please, will someone correct me if I'm wrong), the bofy processess this and this is what is called LDL (low density lipoprotein or Bad Cholesterol) This enters your blood stream and gets lodged in the singit-singit of your arteries naman. This is what they call plaque. First, to eliminate the fats in the intestine, you take in fiber. cause fiber acts as like "scoba" and cleans your intestines. As for the plaque in the body, try to increase your HDL and lower your LDL. to remember make sure your Hdl is HIGH (in number, as per blood test readings) and your Ldl is LOW. Exercise: for those of you who have led a sedentary lifestyle, start slow. preferably a 15 mins brisk walk (around the neighborhood). if after a month, you feel bored, increase to 30 mins. the increase should be in the time frame (mga 15 mins increment) not in the pacing. Remember, you want the heart to work but not over exert it. With this way, theoretically, with the blood flowing the plaques will slowly be removed from your system. Smoking: Defiitely a NO-NO. Many people hear that smoking is bad for your health. How bad? You have all read that it causes Lung Cancer, Emphysema, Throat Cancer, yada, yada, yada. But you ask, what's in it for us BP guys? The chemical contained in cigarettes constricts the arteries. So kung medyo malaki yung plaque mo and the arteries are constricted, you know what'l happen. Diet: As I mentioned above, fiber is important in my diet. Low-salt too. Why? to avoid Water retention. Meaning eating salty foods make your body retain more water than necessary, which in turn dilutes the fat in your body making it easier for it to travel all over inside of you. I, personally, have oatmeal for breakfast, nothing added, just sugar to taste. Muesli is okay, pero magastos naman. For lunch, 2 pieces of sandwiches. Whole wheat bread, with tuna (no mayonnaise) on olive oil, very little salt (to taste) and parsley, with lettuce. Dnner - 1 cup rice (walang dayaan, pagsinabing 1 cup, 1 cup). and whatever ulam ang naluto. I always make sure that their's fruit on the table. Eto na ang minatamis. Try to avoid (if you can) chocolates, cakes, those exotic pastries. but if you crave for talagang matamis 1 serving of biko. following this, I was able to lower my LDL level from 180 to 70, and able to maintain it. Syanga pala, I don't take vitamin supplements except for Vitamin C (500 mg/day). Please look carefully at the contents of your vitamin supplement. Kung may Vitamin K, try to avoid taking it. My doctor says that Vitamin K increases the heartbeat. I see it in Gatorade and other "energy" drinks. Again, just my 2 centavos worth lang po. Feel free to contradict or add. we might learn something new. Quote Link to comment
ElPatayo
Thank you boss bonjing for contributing and sharing your own experience..... Based on your research, i am guilty taking meat and energy drinks like redbull, lipovitan and the new one is bacchus ba yun? So this energy drinks contributes to High BP? So one needs high fiber everyday to dilute this so called fats in our body? Anyone who has their own opinion are welcome to post. This is for our own health MTC brods..... :mtc: Quote Link to comment
ElPatayo
How Can You Prevent or Control High Blood Pressure? If you have high blood pressure, you and your health care provider need to work together asa team to reduce it. The two of you need to agree on your blood pressure goal. Together, youshould come up with a plan and timetable for reaching your goal. Blood pressure is usually measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is recorded astwo numbers—systolic pressure (as the heart beats) “over” diastolic pressure (as the heartrelaxes between beats)—for example, 130/80 mmHg. Ask your doctor to write down foryou your blood pressure numbers and your blood pressure goal level. Monitoring your blood pressure at home between visits to your doctor can be helpful. You also may want to bring a family member with you when you visit your doctor.Having a family member who knows that you have high blood pressure and who understandswhat you need to do to lower your blood pressure often makes it easier to makethe changes that will help you reach your goal. If you have normal blood pressure or prehypertension, following these steps will help prevent you fromdeveloping high blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure, following these stepswill help you control your blood pressure. b0redrat
I've been living with high blood pressure for more than 20 years and I will be 50 years old this year. If one is worried about high BP, the best is to consult a specialist physician, an cardiologist, a neurologist or a nephrologist. These medical practicioners will recommend the proper physical and laboratory tests to find out the underlying cause of high BP. My highest BP was 180/110 when I was in my mid-20s. Of course, being young, one feels immortal and I continued eating anything and drinking a lot. With medication, my BP averaged 130/90 and of course was classified as a hypertensive. However, with proper diet (low-salt, less meat, more fruits and vegetables) and serious excercise, I have been able to reduce my average BP. I am now doing 110/70 and feeling great. Good luck, mga pre!<{POST_SNAPBACK}> that was inspiring bro! i am averaging 150/90 and im on the mid 20s so medyo kinakabahan na ako. i dont take any medications, no exercise, laging puyat, 3hrs sleep, and buti naman buhay pa ko ngayon. maybe drinking a lot of water helps? im undergoing water theraphy and so far medyo nawawala na yung sakit ng batok ko. pero dont take my word for it. it may or may not work for you. It will do wonders. Alam ko at your age (I was that young too), daming gimik, inuman, parties and such. Am not saying that you live a "cloistered" life but love your body, iisa lang yan. mahirap siniglan ka in the long run. di biro ang heart attack. SCARY!!! @ El Patayo I don't know about lipovitan, bacchus, et al. Try to look at the label kung naka breakdown yung contents. As I reiterate, I am not a doctor. So, if there's a doctor in the house, care to share your opinions, views, contradictions, etc.... Quote Link to comment

Try some exercise and some diet control. Generic na payo yan ng mga doctor, pero di lahat nakaka-sunod. Since you are still in your mid-20's, time is on your side, but you may have to start soon. Problems (due to high BP) come out later in life. It's the vital organs that get affected later, heart... kidneys, etc. Quote Link to comment

Right after my discharge from the hospital due to my minor heart attack, I was required to take 5 different tablets daily. It costs me 6K a month. Grabe. Kada sweldo, I have to budget 3K just for my meds alone. Presently, nabawasan na ng Isang tablet (forgot the name, but the cost was Php 360/tablet). kaya ngayon, budget ko is 1.1K / sweldo just for maintenance meds lang. Kaya mga kaibigan, PLEASE, PLEASE take care of your health. Hindi biro ang magkasakit. It will have an impact in your life (financially, physically, emotionally and psychologically). Wyld
... coz pineapple is fiber u will tend to constipate..therefore u need to drink a lot of water...<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just a slight correction. Pineapple IS fiber and fiber makes you go "number 2" easier .... Actually people call pineapple (fruit and juice) the "walis" of our tummy because it really helps you flush out everything.... But youre right its a good diet food and will help lower your bp and your weight. Edited July 27, 2005 by Wyld Quote Link to comment
lyonhart17
Just a slight correction. That would be very very unhealthy as pineapple juice has a lot of sugar... That might lead to diabetes and we dont want that. I was merely reacting to your point about pineapple causing constipation because as far as my experience goes... it actually causes the opposite of constipation. I think everyone knows that water is essential to health and that 8 (even more) glasses a day is the norm.... The key here is balance in everything we eat and drink. Quote Link to comment
