lomex32
Use Mama Sita's Kare-kare mix you can find it in ur friendly neighborhood stores in PI abroad, u can find it in filipino/asian food shops Quote Link to comment
jobim
Speaking of kare-kare... paano tanggalin ang amoy ng twalya? Eto kasi ginawa ko, according to a recipe: Nilinisan ko (w/ a toothbtush) yung twalya, pinakuluan for 5 minutes, tapos palit ng tubig, tapos pinalambot ko na. Pero may konting amoy pa rin e, parang yung mga twalya na ginagamit sa goto. Pero yung mga kare-kare at callos sa restaurants, wala ng trace ng amoy. Quote Link to comment
lomex32
Tuwalya? Labhan mo kaya... Seriously some use tide powder to (konti lang) to clean Bituka and stomach (Tuwalya) you may use baking soda as well. I dont think 5 minutes is enough to make the tuwalya tender. Varn
may canteen kami dito sa laloma... dinadayo pa ang kare-kare namin... ang alam ko na ginagawa ng mom/dad ko ganito... 1. make sure na yun twalya ay fresh at hindi galing sa mantandang baka... mas matanda yun baka, mas matigas at mas maamoy.. baka mabentahan ka ng twalya ng kalabaw, parang matandang baka din yan... 2. hugasan maigi... under running water... tapos babad ng 10 mins sa tubig at palitan ng tubig... 3. pressure cooker ang gamitin sa pagpapakulo... if maangot talaga ang nakuha na twalya, samahan mo ng kaunting luya, pero wag masyadong madami... baka maglasang paksiw... also works great with isaw... 4. never kami gumamit ng mama sita... palaging roasted peanuts... may blender/grinder kami... yun ang gamit... pampalapot na, really helps in removing the "laman loob" smell... lomex32
This is the original/classic way of Kare-kare, using real Peanut Sauce from Griound peanuts. Some use toasted ground flour for pampalapot 4. never kami gumamit ng mama sita... palaging roasted peanuts... may blender/grinder kami... yun ang gamit... pampalapot na, really helps in removing the "laman loob" smell...<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Quote Link to comment

What I did was boil it for 5 minutes, after which I replaced the (smelly) water, and then I boiled it again and simmered it to make it tender. Thanks for the reply. I think I'll use baking soda instead of Tide. Quote Link to comment

hottlipss
My family's recipe for kare-kare besides using fresh ground peanuts or peanut butter chunky (don't know if you have it there sa PI but here sa states we have peanut butter with chunks of peanuts as oppose to the smooth peanut butter) is to put gata...I use 1 can (can't get it fresh here). I never ever use Mama Sita. My family said the common mistake most people make is putting too much sabaw na parang nilagang na. So far I've had good feedback from my friends with my kare-kare kasi yun ang palaging request along with Pancit Palabok. Edited June 27, 2006 by hottlipss Quote Link to comment

saintmaverick
:boo: mine paborito! Of course - as someone else said here... lolas kare kare is the best! She roasts and grinds the peanuts herself and adds some peanut butter also. The important part of kare kare is the sauce, botch that up and it will be nothing. Thick sauce with lots of flavor! mmmmm..... another orgasmic culinary experience! Quote Link to comment
dodo
Just had kare-kare for dinner tonight. Sarap. I just buy one of those ready made mixes and follow directions. Quote Link to comment
Cmayfrayna
when we make kare kare we use either kasim or pique or pata...you need to cook them in a pressure cooker para lumambot ng husto..yummy....dont use kare kare mix...put a little effort into your kare kare and i assure you that it will be worth it......instead of mix we use peanut butter a cheap brand will do and also use real peanuts...grind nyo to tinytiny bits since your using peanut butter no need to grind the peanuts to powder, bits will do......ung ginagamit namin na peanuts ung prinirito ung nabibili sa kanto kanto ung may asin or roast peanuts will do...thats it..then other ingridients is just the same...matagal lang ung pag luto/palambot ng kare kare sa pressure cooker and pag grind ng mani...we are using a stone basin and an oval stone to grind peanuts hehehe...yum yum yum...cant wait to eat kare kare again  Edited October 17, 2006 by Cmayfrayna Quote Link to comment
