He kinda got a rough start but he seems to have gotten a handle on the work and the people. But then, it's normal for a new guy in such a close knot group. Quote Link to comment

If you are interested in being a Tax specialist, just PM me and I'll see what I can do. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> pre, ano na ba minimum qualifications ng tax specialist sa firm where you're at? license lang? good grades? parang sales ba yan kse you always negotiate with the BIR kung magkano ide-declare ng kliyente mo? i know it's way more than that, pero educate us na rin, lalo na sa mga namimili pa lang ng career path. para pag nagsawa na sa systems (as with audit and back office), tax naman. charuz  thanks and ciao! If entry level lang ang habol mo then your credentials can be just the license and no relevant work experience. Then you come in as a Junior Tax Staff. However, as you go aiming higher up the ladder, then experience and higher education would help you get those positions. Most of the higher positions that have not been filled up by people who came from the ranks have shown prior experience in audit or tax. Other applicants for managers show their law degree. As to the work, we don't "negotiate" with the BIR dahil bawal sa aming international affiliate ang under the table. We do argue with the BIR in order to "defend" clients from the assessments na talagang hindi valid. But most of the work we do is reviewing the tax compliance of clients and filing them. We research on how to do business in the Philippines and advise multinationals who are interested to set up shop in the Philippines. Often, we communicate with our regional office on a lot of questions they want us to clear up. Recently though, we've been involved in reviewing companies to determine their tax positions in preparation for acquisition. Daming trabaho no? Quote Link to comment

tazzy
question, does an overseas qualification help kung accountant ka sa pinas? Quote Link to comment
freelicker
question, does an overseas qualification help kung accountant ka sa pinas?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Depending on what you mean by overseas qualification. If what you mean is whether an overseas qualification can help in looking for a job as accountant in the Philippines, then the answer is yes although your options may get limited by your overseas qualification (i.e. general business qualification means you are geared towards consulting, bookkeeping would possibly limit you to BPO, etc.). or it might enhance it greatly (Masters abroad would jack up your value). If what you mean is whether being an accountant (or CPA) would enhance your chances of landing a job abroad, then the answer is yes. The US is currently looking for CPA's to migrate abroad. Natakot yata ang mga tao doon because of the Enron Case so there is an apparent lack of Accountants there. Quote Link to comment
tazzy
sorry, let me clarify my question. does having an overseas qualification (a degree, bachelors or masters) help if you want to practice in the philippines? as for being an accoutant/CPA in the phils then working o/s. medyo mahirap because the government may want accountants to come in but the businesses require a certain level of work experience or local qualification to get a job as an accountant. most of the people i know who are accountants in the phils (even CPAs with MBAs) and are living o/s don't get to practice accounting, they're usually in accounts. cruesome
PSBA '94 here, non-CPA (Cannot Pass Anymore maybe). initially started working for a university up north as a junior accountant, a few months later shifted gear in the IT line... now a network operations manager on a multi-national distribution group. i'm still hoping to take the board and grab the title as my throphy, di yata biro ang accountancy. but then it's gonna be tough Quote Link to comment

Natakot yata ang mga tao doon because of the Enron Case so there is an apparent lack of Accountants there.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> in addition to the above post, the demand for accountants especially in the US increased dramatically since the passage of the sarbanes-oxley act (SOx). this law has placed stringent requirements to us sec-registered companies, specifically for corporate responsibility for financial reports (sec. 302) and management assessment of internal control (sec. 404). from the corporate view, this translates to a lot of work such as business process reviews, assessments of internal control, etc., to assist the ceo and cfo in complying with the requirements of the act. initially, these companies outsource the function, but hiring "consultants" to assist in the requirement has proven to be costly especially for SMEs. because of the cost, more and more companies started establishing their own "internal controls department" or appointing a compliance officer to do the evaluations and assessments necessary in assisting the ceo and cfo. these new departments or positions create a market for accountants and auditors. their local pool of accountants and auditors are not enough to satisfy their needs, which is why they hire from the outside. other countries also passed similar local laws that resulted to the demand for accountants and auditors. kaya lang negative ang effect dito sa tin kasi foreign companies really prefer filipino accountants and auditors. nauubos ang mga tao dito kasi lahat gusto mag-abroad. even kami apektado sa external audit because in the middle of the engagement biglang mawawala ang senior kasi may secondment pala for SOx-related work in another country. may papalit sila pero panibagong familiarization at paliwanagan na naman mangyayari, sayang oras. ryanarjay, sayang, accounting pala preference mo. i'm looking for an internal auditor ngayon e. pero if you have audit experience, i may consider you. pm me if you're still interested. thanks. lance0604
HP 12C is the best financial calculator so far. Any financial calculator is good enough as long as it can perform discounted cash flow techniques i.e. NPV, IRR, Annuity, and geometric mean etc... Quote Link to comment
