private_1st
Hello, I was diagnosed 3 years ago ng hypokalemia, pina-inom sa akin is potassium chloride tablets at kain daw ako ng mga potassium rich foods like saging and asparagus. Pero nagtataka ako ngayon bumabalik kasi eh, every meal may saging tapos every lunch ko may asparagus, once a week may salmon sa menu ko. Well, andyan pa din, parang kabote na susulpot then mawawala tas babalik ulit. Natatakot ako that this may lead to Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), kasi ang sabe ng doctor ko sa St. Lukes Global City, yung ALS patients daw niya before is kinakikitaan ng "severe hypokalemia". Eh ang sabe din isa kong friend na doctor, taking potassium supplements wont help in the long run it will only ease the attacks. Chubby po ako and I jogged every Sunday. Is there any way to prevent this?Suggest naman po yung mga doctors or nutritionist ,na ito ung field of expertise nila ng ibang food to help in battling my hypokalemia. neosaki24
Usually the body has its own ability to balance itself pag nag ka-hypo o hyper ka na whatso ever. Usually kasi temporary lang yun as sabi mo nga, basta supplement mo ng potassium rich ang meals mo. Pero kung madalas, probably baka may problem ka sa pag absorb o retain ng potassium mo sa body. Now yung takot mo sa ALS, wag ka naman matakot at extreme cases naman yun at hindi mang yayari yun with just a snap of a finger. Quote Link to comment
Makaryosakay
1.) you have a friend doctor and primary physician already. better to ask him/her na lang kasi mas mapapaliwanag niya sayo ng diretso.2.) saging3.) kung gusto mong pumayat, diet talaga instead of exercise. Quote Link to comment
shaved and wet pussy
My partner had this from 2006 to 2009 his endoc said it was being triggered by high carb intake causing the insulin to riseTriggering the potassium to leave the body. Parang ang explanation was that the insulin replaces the potassium. Try cutting down on the carbs and going for a high protein diet. When he became more watchful of what he ate his Hypokalemia attacks stopped. I hope that helps i know how scary it is. I saw him when he had one of those attacks and he was on bed rest for 5-6 days he literally couldnt walk and then he started loosing muscle function in his hands and upper body. We observed that this would happen whenever he ate a huge amount of rice. He had to ensure that he limit it to 2--3 cups a day. I hope that helps good luck tho Edited April 3, 2015 by shaved and wet pussy 1 Quote Link to comment

psantos
hypokalemia is caused by the massive increase in sugar in blood triggered by too much carb intake (like pansit and rice), amongst other things. it doesnt mean bawal na kumain ng rice. in moderation nalang. too much sugar in blood, causes the ssugar to all enter the cells at same time, causing massive influx of potassium, causing a sudden drop. KayaK
Daily intake of orange juice will help raise your potassium level. I agree extreme cases na yung ALS due to hypokalemia. Immediate risk of hypokalemia is arrhythmia. Quote Link to comment
Genesis_MD
Madaming cause ang hypokalemia. I suggest identify the cause (renal or non renal, etc) then plan the therapy. Quote Link to comment
ImSolidSnake
I've been suffering from Hypokalemia before almost every other year. The first time it happened to me I have been admitted to ICU because of its severity. I can't move every parts of my body except for my eyes.. been stabilizing sodium chloride and potassium through IV. Since then until my full recovery, whenever I feel the same symptoms I usually drink a lot of Gatorade and the likes. of coarse banana and potassium chloride tablets as over-the-counter medication and depending on severity consult a doctor/endocrine specialist.
